Mediocre Quality For a High Price

I had such high hopes for the Flocked Damask Corset by Coquette... While it is pretty, the quality of all of the detachable items are poor. There is fraying and loose threads on both the broach and the garter straps. Also, the shoulder straps have pretty rhinestones in them... but when I went to place the strap on the ground to take a photo, one of the rhinestones fell out. If Coquette had put a bit more effort into it, it would have been great... but they didn't.

extremely useful review
The Flocked Damask Corset by Coquette is available in sizes S-XL. I purchased the size XL, though I will be returning it for the size L because the size XL is not tight enough around my stomach, and would fit a D cup better in the chest (I wear a C cup). Also, when I received the adjustable shoulder straps, one of them was broken. This review will have all measurements for the size XL corset.

The corset arrived in a clear, plastic bag packaging. There was no text or photos on the bag. The detachable, adjustable shoulder straps and garters were in a small, zip lock style bag attached to the corset, along with the item tag.

The corset is 82% nylon and 18% spandex. The top of the chest and the covering on the boning is smooth velvet. The rest of the corset has a fuzzy feeling to it. When I purchased the corset, I did not know that “flocked” meant fuzzy. I am not disappointed with the material; I was just not expecting it. The back of the corset does not have any detailing on it, and is extremely stretchy. The flocked material seems to pick up lint and hair much more than other materials, so be sure to keep it away from your pets!

I’ve taken measurements of the item lying flat, unstretched. Also, the corset was done up on the first row of hooks (the loosest fit) when I had taken these measurements. If you need additional measurements, please feel free to send me a message.

Detachable, adjustable shoulder straps: 12-16 ¾ inches
Shoulder strap width: just under ½ inch each
Chain and rhinestones on shoulder straps: 3 ¾ inches
Detachable, adjustable garter straps(4 in total): 5 ½- 9 ½ inches each
Armpit to armpit on corset: 16 inches
Cup Length (from centre top of cup to bottom): 5 inches
Bottom of corset: 18 inches
Corset length (from top centre of cup to bottom of corset): 15 ½ inches
Back of corset length: 14 inches
Detachable Broach width (includes ribbon): 3 ½ inches

The broach is removable so if you do not like the style of the broach on the corset, you can take it off. I personally like the broach. When my partner seen the corset, the first thing he complimented was the broach. It’s slightly different looking than the one in the stock photo. The differences are that there are 3 ribbon loops on the right side (only 2 in the stock photo) and the gap between the two bottom ribbons is much larger than that in the stock photo. There is a silver chain around the broach, and rhinestone accents on the broach. The quality of the broach could be a lot better as there is a bit of fraying on the ribbons and loose threads.

The detachable shoulder straps are adjustable, and have rhinestone accents on them. They are very pretty (though one of them came broken with my corset). There are 6 large rhinestones in between each silver chain link on the straps. The straps do not need to be worn with the corset. The loops that the straps attach to on the corset are inside of the corset, so it will not look odd if you choose not to wear them (the same goes for the garter attachments). Below is a photo of a shoulder strap (left) and a garter (right).

The trim on the bottom of the corset is marabou (feathery trim). The trim hasn’t shed at all, though I had only tried on the corset for the photos, and it’s been sitting on my dresser since. The trim is not detachable, but it seems like it could be removed easily. The trim is sewn to the bottom of the corset every few inches. If you wanted to, you could carefully remove the trim in the areas it was sewn. I actually might do this when I get the smaller size because the trim really doesn’t do anything for me. In the photo below, you can see how the trim is sewn only every few inches.

While the product page says the boning is metal, they are actually very flexible, plastic boning pieces. There are 9 boning pieces in total. There are two 6 inch panels on the back of the corset that have no boning. I didn’t find the boning to be slimming because the boning pieces are not strong enough. There is thin padding in the chest, so you do not need to wear a bra with this corset, though there is no underwire.

The corset was comfortable when I had worn it and I did not have any problems with the material irritating my skin. Below are a few photos of me wearing the corset. The first photo shows a front view, the second photo shows how I’d wear the corset out in public (with a sweater), and the third shows the back of the corset.

The back of the corset does up with hook and eye closures. There are 2 rows of hooks, and 18 hooks in each row. There is a ¾ inch gap between the rows.

The care tag states that the corset should be hand washed and line dried only.

As for how I feel about the corset… I have mixed feelings. The corset was comfortable but the boning was too flexible to provide any sort of shaping. Also, I really dislike how the back of the corset has no detailing on it so it just shows my chubby back and hips. While I think the broach is adorable, the quality of it is poor and Coquette could have done a better job when making it. I’m a sucker for shiny things, but the rhinestones on the straps are NOT secure to the chain. When I went to take a photo of the shoulder strap for this review, one of the rhinestones popped out of its place. While I wouldn’t wear the garters, they’re poor quality and have fraying on them as well.

Overall, I have to rate this corset a 3 out of 5, and even then I’m not sure if I am being too generous. All of the things I had listed in the previous paragraph are what made the rating go from a 5 star, to only a 3. If I am going to pay $66.99 for something, I expect the product and all of its accessories to be of a much better quality than what I’ve received.

Thanks for the great review and pics. It looks good on you but I do agree that one size smaller would be better! Too bad about the quality though.
