It's a Cinch!
All in all, this cincher is a great costume piece for any collection! The structure is decent, the fabric is strong, and the cincher itself is really cute. Wear it on it's own, wear it over a dress or top!

Pros
price, structure, style
Cons
runs small, thin ribbon
The dot satin waist cincher by Coquette is an interesting piece. It has some flaws but for a costume piece it’s not bad.
I feel like this waist cincher runs a bit small. I wish it came in a 3x/4x but I think that would be a bit small on me too. The gap at the back is much bigger than I would ideally like it to be, but for a plastic boned cincher, it’s not bad. It certainly adds some drama and fun to an outfit for costume.
This cincher will not cinch you like steel boned or waist training corsets will but it will pull you in some and give you a bit more shape. The material is sturdy and the whole thing seems to be pretty well built. The metal busks at the front can be hard to fasten (busks always are) but the metal down the front offers a bit more shaping and structure.
I could live without the ruffles. If you are on the skinny side and would like something to draw some attention and add the illusion of more shape, the ruffles are great. However, if you are already curvy/ hippy like I am, the ruffles can be a bit much. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to remove them, but I have worn the cincher with the ruffles tucked underneath. The ruffles make it more costumey. Without ruffles it’s more streamlined and a bit sexier.
I also had issues with the ribbon the cincher was originally laced with. I like a stronger cord for lacing even a fashion corset. I pulled out the thin black ribbon and replaced it with a stronger cord but if you’re not really going to cinch it much, there is nothing wrong with the provided ribbon. I am always happy when a corset comes laced correctly. This one is, it’s tied off down at the bottom and laced to be cinched and tied from the center.
All in all, it’s well built, the fabric is strong, you get a decent amount of cinch and the price isn’t too bad. The cincher is really cute with or without the ruffles so I’d say it’s worth having in your costume wardrobe.

Follow-up commentary
12 months after original review
I had to give up on this one. It's well built, it's a nice costume piece, but the sizing was just too far off. I ended up giving it away and it's living a much happier life with it's new owner.
