Gathered Goodness
The Wet Look Gathered Skirt by Coquette is an inexpensive piece that can be worn both in and/or out of the bedroom. The ruching down the skirt is attractive looking and hides any underwear lines. The material is breathable, stretchy, and comfortable. I really like the skirt and am happy with my purchase. I would recommend it to others.

Pros
Inexpensive, attractive, stretchy, opaque, length, ruching, comfortable, well made.
Cons
lack of sizes offered.
The Wet Look Gathered Skirt by Coquette is available in sizes one-size-fits-most and plus size. I purchased the plus size. It arrived on a clear plastic hanger and was surrounded by plastic. There were no text or photos on the plastic bag.
There was a cardboard tag attached to the skirt with a few photos of a model wearing the piece and stated the company name, product name, colour, size, and company website. The hanger is great to use for storing the skirt when it’s not being worn.
The skirt is 80% nylon and 20% spandex. The material to the skirt is stretchy and not sheer. The waistband is elastic band so it is stretchy as well. The skirt is all black in colour and has a shiny wet look to it. I’ve taken a few measurements of the skirt laying flat, unstretched. If you need additional measurements, send me a message and I can get them for you.
Waistband unstretched: 17 inches
Waistband stretched as much as I could: 26 inches
Length of skirt unstretched (taken down side): 11 ¾ inches
Length of skirt unstretched (taken down centre front): 15 ½ inches
There are 6 lines of ruching that run vertically down the skirt. There are 2 in the back, 2 in the front, and 1 on each side. The ruching starts right beneath the waistband and goes to the very bottom of the skirt. These lines of ruching sit on elastic band. If you pull the skirt down for more length, the elastic will stretch making the ruched areas look less gathered.
As mentioned, the waistband is elastic band. It’s fairly thick and measures 1 ¼ inches in length. The areas in between the lines of ruching have a gathered look to them. The bottom area of the skirt has a draped look because the areas between the elastic bands are slightly longer then the ruched columns. You’ll be able to understand this better by viewing the photo below.
The plus size for this skirt is the OS/XL on the Coquette size chart. The suggested weight bracket for the OS/XL is between 170-200lbs. I’m in the high 160’s. The suggested hip measurements for this size are 42-50inches. My hip measurement is 41 inches. You can see that my stats are just a tad beneath the suggested numbers for the OS/XL. I go with this size because I’m above the highest numbers for the OSFM and don’t want the items to be too tight (creating muffin top, being uncomfortable, etc).
The waistband fit nicely and did not feel tight or uncomfortable. There was quite a bit of stretch left since I’m at the lower end of the suggested hip measurement but it wasn’t loose or saggy. I’m 5’6 in height and the length of the skirt covered all of my areas that needed to be covered. You can actually see where the bottom of the skirt fell in the photos below. Where it falls on you will also depend on how high you are wearing the waistband. The skirt looks really short on the model in the stock photo but it's not that short on me.
When I took those photos, I didn’t stretch the elastic banded ruched areas to add more length. You could if you wanted to, but then the skirt will look less gathered. The length of the skirt is great because I can wear it in public without any of my private areas being exposed. If you’re taller, you could always wear a pair of opaque stockings or leggings with the skirt just to be safe.
The ruching down the sides of the skirt are perfect for hiding underwear lines. You can see that in the photos above, the bottom of the skirt looks less draped in comparison to the first photo I had added in the review. I assume that this is because I “fill out” the skirt with my width. There still is a bit of draping but not very much.
The skirt is well made. I didn’t find any loose threads, uneven stitching, etc. The material is comfortable and breathable. I didn’t have any issues with skin irritation while wearing the piece. The care tag states that the skirt should be hand washed only and hung to dry.
Overall, I like the skirt! It’s comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time, it’s attractive, can be worn in or out of the bedroom, and fits nicely. It’s a shame it’s not available in a wider variety of sizes because I think it would look excellent on the larger plus sizes as well.
