Whooooa, that smell!

This is one of the worst lubes that I've ever used. It is runny, dries up quickly, and is very thin...and THAT SMELL! It would only be even remotely practical for vaginal use, but the smell does linger and will stay on you after you use it.

Use

This lube is for vaginal use, as a lubricant or moisturizer. It claims to "blend naturally with a woman's own fluids". It is too thin and runny for anal use, but it says that it is safe to ingest so oral would be fine (in theory - I'll get to the taste later). It is safe for latex condoms, and use for toys; though it is water based, the ingredients aren't typical of a lubricant, so I would use it only with non-porous toys to be safe as possible. I don't think this would work at all in the shower or in water.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This stuff is VERY drippy and runny, so again, it is really only practical for vaginal use. It would make a fine personal moisturizer, but just a reminder that you would end up with this smell on you all day. The texture is very thin, this is very liquid and runny. It is one of these super liquidy lubes, where it is difficult to get a little bit out of the bottle without it running everywhere.

Taste / Aroma

Okay...the smell/taste of this product is pretty unusual and intense; especially since I'm used to using lubes that pretty much have no scent or taste. This came with a seal underneath the cap, on the bottle. Once I pealed that off, I put my nose up to the bottle to smell this stuff and...oooh boy. First thing I thought of was old beer. You know when you have a collection of bottles or cans to recycle? You know that smell that you get if you don't rinse out the beer bottles, after they've just been sitting around? THAT. THAT SMELL. I just pulled away from it confused. Not exactly what I want to be smelling during sex, much less smell LIKE during sex! When I went back to smell it again and see if maybe it smelled different to me or something, I could kiiiind of smell a plant-like quality to it, but not anything floral or natural/aloe smelling (though aloe IS an ingredient in this). It smelled more like a greenhouse, specifically. Have you ever gone in to a big store that has a specific section with just plants and greenhouse stuff in it (Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot)? That is the undertone to this, to me. That is the best way I can describe this scent - a stale beer scent, with earthy, greenhouse undertones. I have never smelled guava bark, but that is a main ingredient in this and I assume a big reason for that smell. Once it is on your skin, the scent is present, but seems to fade once it is wiped off or when dries up.

I remembered that the bottle said this is safe to ingest, and wondered WHY you would want to use this for oral. I cringed to think that the taste could be anything like the scent. I cautiously took a taste of it, and though it doesn't taste strong, the light taste that I could pick up matched the scent. I don't drink beer, and I don't want my mouth to taste anything like the inside of greenhouse either; not even a little. So, while this CAN apparently be used for oral, I'm definitely not interested. Also, the smell does linger, because after I got it on my hand trying to squeeze a little bit out of the bottle, my hand still smelled like it for hours later. It was faint, I'd have to put my hand up to my nose to really smell it, but it was definitely present. After I washed my hands about 3 times in the course of several hours, did I notice that the scent had finally faded away.

Performance

This is very thin and runny, and you will likely need to reapply while using it. It absorbs or dries up fairly quickly. The smell, however, sticks around. If you want to get the smell off, you will need to use soap and water to clean it off.

Ingredients are (including links to safety info for each): Aqua (Water), Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Phenethyl Alcohol, PPG-2 Methyl Ether, Methylisothiazolinone, Psidium Guajava Fruit Extract, Certified Organic (GojiBerry) Fruit Extract (and) Certified Organic Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemon Grass) Leaf/ Stem Extract (and) Certified Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Extract.

Phenoxyethanol, as it says in the link, is not expected to be toxic, but could be an irritant. I found the info on PPG-2 Methyl Ether disturbing: it is classified as expected to be toxic or harmful by the Environment Canada Domestic Substance List. It shows limited evidence of kidney toxicity, AND limited evidence of reproductive toxicity. Using a lubricant that is meant to be applied to genitals, with a potential to cause reproductive issues, even if the evidence is 'limited', is a bothersome thought for me. I did more research on this ingredient and found this report which says, "Because these ingredients are highly water-soluble, they are likely to be absorbed through the human skin only at slow rates, resulting in low blood concentrations and rapid removal by the kidney. These ingredients are not genotoxic and are not reproductive or developmental toxicants. Overall the data are sufficient to conclude that PPG-2 methyl ether, PPG-3 methyl ether, and PPG-2 methyl ether acetate are safe as used in cosmetics." And this site also states "that PPG-2 Methyl Ether and PPG-3 Methyl Ether were not reproductive or developmental toxicants and were not genotoxic." Methylisothiazolinone, as mentioned in the link, "is a widely-used preservative; has been associated with allergic reactions" and shows strong evidence of being a human skin toxicant or allergen. Basically, I would recommend being careful, especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergic reactions. You should test this out on a patch of skin before going all out and applying it as a lubricant if you want to be cautious.

Packaging

The packaging of this is totally minimal - no box, no bag, just lube in a bottle. The bottle is also recyclable. The container doesn't seem to leak on it's own - thankfully! But, it is not as easy to dispense as I would like. It is a push-cap top, and this stuff is very runny, so squeeze the bottle cautiously when using or you'll end up with a mess on your hands. The bottle is very travel-friendly, and the green color of it is very pretty.

This was very helpful, and thanks for going over the 'risky' ingredients. Also I'm sad to hear that it's so runny, as I prefer thicker lubes. I was planning to try this, but now I dunno...
