Seaweed-y Goodness

Looking for an all natural lube that is close to your own natural wetness and that won't give you a yeast infection or UTI? Look no further. While Sliquid Sea doesn't work well when it is not constantly being reactivated by your own wetness or saliva (think: anal or handjobs), it is really amazing at what it does best-give you some extra slick during vaginal sex, especially on those days that you aren't as wet as you normally are.

Pros
All natural, won't interfere with the pH of the vagina, is similar to a female's natural lubrication
Cons
Doesn't last terribly long when exposed to air, needs to be reapplied

extremely useful review
I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to lubes . Glycerine gives me yeast infections, I'm allergic to parabens, and I like my lube to be not too runny or too thick (Unless it's for anal play. Then, it's all about lube that is thick enough to stay put!)

Sliquid Sea is one of my favourite lubes, despite my (necessary) pickiness. It is glycerine free, paraben free, and also doesn't have any DEA, gluten, glycerol, PEG, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and sulphates. It is also vegan friendly. That? Is an epic list of awesomeness.

The ingredient list is short and sweet: Purified water, Plant Cellulose (from cotton), Cyamopsis (Guar Conditioners),Carrageenan, Nori & Wakame (Seaweed Extracts), Potassium Sorbate

While the seaweed in general interested me, I was especially excited to see that Carrageenan was an ingredient in this lube. Carrageenan is slippery seaweed which is used in a variety of ways, from food to cosmetic purposes. Also, some studies have recently shown that Carrageenan may actually help prevent STD infection and transmission. Hey, I'm a medical geek, and stuff like this makes me far too excited.

The Sea bottle is short and squat, with a teal label and a pretty stylized (lotus?) flower on it. It holds 4.2 ounces (125ml). The flower design has a female symbol worked into it, which looks quite classy. While it does say ‘natural intimate lubricant' on the front, this bottle wouldn't get a second look on your bathroom counter, tucked in with hair products or even stashed in the shower! The clear top has a push-click lid, like a shampoo bottle, which I like. This design works well most of the time, but can be a bit tricky to use with slick fingers. I haven't had any issues with any of my Sliquid bottles leaking, even though they sometimes get tossed into the bottom of my toy bag, and bounced around. The bottle is also recycleable, (there's a note on the label asking you to please recycle the packaging) and most recycling plants will accept it, as it is #1 plastic.
Experience
The consistency of Sliquid Sea is fairly thin, not as thin as water is, but closer to your own natural lubrication. Given all the seaweed in this lube (Seaweed is often used as a thickening agent, especially in foodstuffs like jello!), I had expected it to be a bit thicker, maybe something between a gel and regular water based lube. It has a very light smell to it, almost a ‘green' scent. It's not noticeable unless the lube is close to your nose, though, so shouldn't bother most people. The taste is also almost unnoticeable. I used it during a handjob and switched to a blowjob halfway through, and all I could taste was a slight sweet flavour that isn't normal for my partner's genitals.

I didn't find that Sliquid Sea lasted as long as I would like it to in some instances. I tried giving one of my partners a handjob using this lube, and it started to feel a bit draggy after 4 minutes, and the lube was all but gone around 5. Now, it was easily reactivated by some spit (hey, switching it up to a blowjob for a minute or two is fun!), my partner started getting annoyed that he would get into the rhythm of the handjob, and then the tackiness of the lube/it drying and having to stop to reactivate it would throw him off. I would not recommend this lube for anal play. It takes about 5 minutes for the lube to absorb completely into my skin if I rub it between my fingers, so would require either constant reapplication or reactivation.

It was more successful when I tried this for vaginal use. I am a naturally wet person, so don't normally need extra lubrication for vaginal sex, though I did try this when using a larger dildo for the first time. It worked well for that, and my natural lubrication helped keep the lube from drying out and needing to be reactivated. I love how slick it is, and how well it lasted when used like this!

While this isn't my favouritest lube in the world, I did think it worked well for vaginal use, and I did like that it would absorb into my skin without leaving a tacky residue. I give it 4 seaweed-y paws up out of 5!
Follow-up commentary
This is still my go-to water based lube for everything except anal! I'm loving the way it just absorbs into my skin after play, so there's no need to go wash up. Love it! I will definitely be buying another bottle once I run out.

Awesome review. Bummer to hear that it doesn't work great for hand jobs.

    The Carrageenan info is interesting.

So now, why do they add carrageenan to heavy whipping cream and table cream? Isn't cream thick enough?

That said, as a lube additive instead of a dairy un-pure-en-er, it sounds like seaweed does a great job! Have you tried this compared to Ride? I've been so happy with Ride that I've got the 8.5oz bottle, but when that eventually runs out, should I stick with what I know, or branch out among Sliquid's line?

@Lucky Yeah, my usual lube for handjobs is something silicone. My boyfriend and I are in the process of using up our bottle of Gun Oil, and really like it.

@Silverdrop Yay, glad to share the geeky knowledge.

@Antipova Ride H20 isn't something I've tried, sorry, so I can't give a good comparison. But I've been really happy with the Sliquid lubes that I've tried (Sliquid Booty is possibly my favourite ever for use with anal toys).
