Questionable contents, unquestionable performance.

Liquid Silk is an all around amazing lubricant, with just one flaw: parabens. While parabens have not officially been linked to breast cancer, it has risen enough concern that most companies have begun advertising paraben free alternatives. Also, anyone with a paraben allergy should avoid this product. That being said though, if you can get past the parabens, this lube really is all you can ask for. Super slick, long lasting and non-messy - it gets the job done and does it well.

Use

Liquid Silk can essentially be used in any situation requiring ample lubrication: masturbation, toy play, vaginal or anal intercourse. It is ideal for both anal and vaginal penetration as it has tremendous staying power and is incredibly slick. A little bit will go a long way!

Despite it being a water-based lubricant, it was capable of retaining some of its slickness even in the shower. Direct contact with water will remove all traces of the lubricant within a few seconds though, which shouldn't come as a big surprise.

The lube is effectively safe for use on all toys - with a bit of caution for silicone. The reason for this is that it does contain dimethicone (a silicone), which can potentially cause interactions with some silicone toys. Because of this, one should spot-test near the base on any silicone toy to first to ensure that there isn't a reaction. I have personally not seen a reaction on any of the toys that we own.

Sadly, the lube cannot be used by everyone. People allergic to parabens will want to steer clear of this as it contains not only 1, but 4 different types. It is advisable to apply a little to your skin prior to using it for the first time if you are uncertain. It could potentially save you a trip to the doctor later on.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I'll be frank: Liquid Silk looks like semen. Which is honestly quite fitting, if you ask me. The color is milky white and the consistency is rather creamy, similar to some lotions.

The lube is actually middle of the road when it comes to viscosity and thickness. It's not ridiculously thick like the water-based Maximus nor is it super runny like most silicone lubes. It will run if placed on a vertical surface such as a upright finger or toy, but it does so rather slowly before it eventually comes to a stop. This is a benefit to using just standard silicone based lubes as there is far less mess.
Applying to the tip of the finger and held upright, the lube will slowly run and then stop completely.

Thankfully application is extremely simple due to the included pump handle. A single pump will usually be all that you'll need for play. It really is that slippery. There is also no greasy feeling when the product has dried, like other water-based lubes containing glycerin. It feels like you've just finished applying a moisturizer or lotion.
During application, the lube was rubbed into the skin a bit. You can see that it leaves a slick texture during use and almost goes completely clear.

Taste / Aroma

I would seriously not recommend using this lubricant for any oral action. The taste is rather bitter and quite unpleasant to the palate. As for the smell, there really isn't any overpowering fragrance of the sort. It is quite faint, and looking for a comparison I would say it smelled similar to any standard unscented moisturizer.

Performance

This stuff is quite amazing. Liquid Silk can last throughout a single session spanning anywhere around 30 to 40 minutes without reapplication. There is no feeling of friction whatsoever, it lives up the name of silk in that regard. If left to sit for a few minute the lubricant will dry up though. All that is required to reactivate the lubricant in the event that it has temporarily dried, is moisture of any sort (saliva, water, etc.) It will return to it's slick self in no time.

There really is no need to wash the lube off as there is no sticky/tacky feeling. I can honesty say that I love that fact the most. In the event of accidental spills, clean up is a cinch as it is still a water based lube. Just some water, with or without soap, will remove all traces of the lubricant.

Packaging

The product was shipped in a plastic bag with a bit of tape to close it all up, nothing too intricate.

Liquid Silk itself comes in a 8.25 fl.oz. plastic bottle, with the pump handle locked in place and a piece of tamper evident tape affixed on top. There are no instructions included.

The label is quite unassuming, only stating the product name, a little ad copy below and a picture that looks like either jigsaw pieces or bonded polymers on the front. The back simply states the ingredients.

To unlock the pump you just need to turn the handle a bit until it pops up. A few more pumps to prime it and then you're good to go. Because of the pump the bottle can be stored on it's side with no problem of leaking. I have it stored in my nightstand on its side and have never encountered any trouble.

I wouldn't think there would be a problem traveling with Liquid Silk, but I would be cautious not to have anything press upon the pump itself.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense

Personal comments

The only concern with this product is the fact that it contains 4 types of parabens. They'll be the last few ingredients listed on the product label and act as anti-microbial preservatives.

The trouble is that some studies have shown that they increase the production of estrogen which can potentially lead to breast cancer. It's this fact alone that many companies have begun creating paraben free alternatives, and ultimately what led my partner and I to stop using the product. It truly is a shame though as it is a wonderful lubricant otherwise.

It should be noted though, that it is still under investigation as to whether there is a solid link between parabens and cancer.
