Water-based lubricant

Lube for My Flesh

This is the standard version of Fleshlube in the dark blue accented bottle. It doesn’t heat or cool, it just lubricates. It is not a thick lube, so it easily spreads within your Fleshlight sleeve, or hand, or partner as the case may be. Since it is thinner, it may take a little more lubricant to get the job done, but it does its job and doesn’t get sticky in the process. It doesn’t taste good due to alcohol content and it has glycerin, (if that is an issue). Otherwise it’s a pretty good lube.

Use

The maker of presumably the most popular male masturbation sleeves in the world, Fleshlight, has decided to jump into the mix of lubricant manufacturing. The material of Fleshlight sleeves, Superskin, is very porous and hence very sensitive to what is applied to it. Water based lubricants have always been the rule there, and this shouldn’t change any time soon. With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the lube Fleshlight is going to market is going to be water based because they will want people to use it with their sleeves. The name they give this lube, Fleshlube, is pretty catchy and allows it to fit right in with their product line.

Presumably, the primary intended use of Fleshlube is as for masturbation particularly using a Fleshlight. Since it is a water based lubricant, this is definitely not the only way it can be used. Fleshlube is suitable for use during vaginal or anal sex and is safe to use with condoms. It is decent at all of these activities, but it may not be the best lube out there for any of them.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Fleshlube is pretty standard amongst water based lubes. It is a homogeneous, clear gel that sits in the thinner end of the water based lube spectrum. This can be both good and bad. The thin nature of the lube allows it to easily flow down the inside of a masturbation sleeve, so it is easy to apply, but since it spreads so easily, can be somewhat messier and it might require a bit more to make sure that everything is lubricated comfortably.

The Fleshlube ingredient list is: purified water, propylene glycol, glycerin, hydroxyethylcellulose, honeysuckle extract. Some of these ingredients are mentioned in the taste/aroma section, but I do want to mention that glycerin is not a good ingredient to have in your lube if you are sensitive to yeast infections. It can be used as a food source for bacteria if one is prone to that.

Taste / Aroma

Taste is probably Fleshlube’s biggest downside. It definitely does not taste good. It has a distinct chemical taste to it and that carries over into the aroma. It doesn’t smell as bad as it tastes, but you can definitely catch a whiff of the taste that it has in store. There are no flavor or sweetener additives since it really isn’t being marketed for oral sex.

If you are looking for a lube for oral sex, look elsewhere. The ingredient that is probably causing that undesirable taste is the propylene glycol. The glycerin and honeysuckle extract should help improve the taste, but the propylene glycol definitely over powers those.

Performance

Since Fleshube is so thin, it is not as effective for activities where a thicker lube is better, but it isn’t bad. It doesn’t get sticky over time, which is definitely an improvement over some of the lubricants out there. Its longevity is good as frequent reapplication was not necessary, but there are lubes available that last longer.

Packaging

Fleshlube packaging is no nonsense and straight forward. A predominantly clear container with the product name emblazoned on the side. The bottle has dark blue accents that set it apart from the orange and teal accents of the other versions in the Fleshlube line. There are both directions and ingredients listed right on the bottle as well. The top is a flip top which is not as handy as a pump top, but it is definitely an improvement over a screw cap.

Experience

All in all, I think Fleshlube is a pretty decent water based lubricant. Since it is water based, it isn’t water resistant. That means that it’s not as good for one of my favorite locations, the shower, but it does the standard job pretty admirably. Its consistency can’t match some of my favorite lubes like Maximus and Ride H2O either, so it loses a little bit in those comparisons. Since rubbing alcohol is the means for giving your Fleshlight a deeper cleaning, maybe that’s why they decided to put alcohol in this lube. It both cleans and lubricates your Fleshlight at the same time! Just a thought.

Sounds like I need to get a bottle for Sigel's fleshlight especially if it cleans and lubes all in one!
    Great review as always!

Thanks, Airen. After writing this all out, the cleaning/lubing dual use struck me. I'm not sure if it is really doing all that much cleaning, but it is interesting. There are other lubes out there with alcohol as an ingredient as well if that is what one is looking for.

Even though not marketed to oral, I always hate it when lube has a bad smell .

    Great review!

Thanks, Sammi. I wanted to make sure I included it because I would hate for any one to go in with the eyes (or nose) closed.

Did you have a problem using this??? Now is it a lube that rewets it self after it dries up?
  • Contributor: Jimbo Jones
Mbenders, what kind of problem would a person have using a water based lube? I have never experienced a lube that rewets itself after it dries up. If you mean can water be used to rewet it, then yes, a little bit of water allows it to become slick again, just as with most water based lubricants. Obviously, one can also apply more when it dries as with any other lubricant.

I have had problems with water based lubes drying up really quick. And you answered about the reweting with water. Thank you so much! I will be trying this product out!!!

I think I mentioned in the review several times that this is mediocre from the standpoint of longevity. It does not get sticky as it dries as some lubes do, and it doesn't last as long as some lubes do, but it is pretty decent. If you want something that really lasts a long time, check out Maximus or Ride H2O.
