Jack on, jack off.
If you're looking for a thicker lube, don't hesitate to give this one a shot just because the bottle says it's for butts. It's not as silky or long-lasting as JO's silicone lubricants, but the ease of cleanup more than makes up for it.

As long as you're realistic about water-based lubes, none.
Let me start this off with the disclaimer that I've never used this for anal and don't know how it holds up for that particular activity. If you're looking for a bit of a different opinion from someone who uses it for PIV sex and masturbation, however, read on.
My girlfriend and I tend to prefer less runny lubes, which is why when looking for something water-based for easier cleanup, we tended towards something meant for anal use. We made sure to pick something that was also safe for vaginal penetration, so rest easy knowing that this is a good choice no matter what you're interested in. JO's H2O Anal Lubricant is indeed less runny, which luckily means that you don't have to use much. The incredibly cheap price tag becomes all that much more reasonable when you don't need to pile it on, so this makes my wallet a rather happy camper.
After good experiences with JO's silicone lubricants, we thought that we'd give their water-based lubes a shot. This sadly didn't measure up to their silicone lubes in any category, but I can't think of any water-based lubes that would. The ease of cleanup makes this our go-to when we know we're going to want to laze around after sex, but on an even, non-lazy playing field, the silicone will definitely win out.
The one thing that I will say is that using this with our overhead fan running doesn't tend to work. It dries out pretty easily with a lot of air flow, but we've found this to be the case with most water-based lubes, so we weren't too surprised. Just add a little bit of saliva to the mix if you don't want to reapply, and you'll rehydrate the lube, leaving you good to go. It's unscented and unflavored, which really means that there's a very mild, unspecific scent and it tastes like a half-sweet, half-bitter goo.
Because this is water-based, it's safe to use with all manner of toys : plastic, silicone, metal, synthetic skin... I wouldn't recommend trying to use it in the shower, despite its thickness. This does mean, though, that as I mentioned before, cleanup is really easy. You can simply wipe it off if you're quick and get it before it starts to dry. If it's dried at all, I would recommend using soap and water (or even just copious amounts of water) to make sure that you aren't left feeling sticky. If you have Eden Wipes on baby wipes handy, these make for a quick and easy cleanup as well. Storage is really simple: keep it out of direct sunlight. Which, quite frankly, you're going to want to do anyways as this bottle just screams "I'm a lube!"
