Use

Sliquid H2O is a lubricant; you should use it as such. It can be used with any type of material and during any type of activity. That said, it may be too thin for anal usage for some. It also may dry out due to air exposure during penile masturbation. This lube was designed with vaginas in mind. It is also excellent for non-sexual uses involving inserting something into the vagina such as a tampon, menstrual cup, or kegel exerciser. You could also use this as an everyday vaginal moisturizer if you have issues with dryness.

Because it is odorless and tasteless, this is an excellent choice for oral sex or if there will be oral sex involved after application.

There are no precautions necessary with this lube, making it completely worry-free. It has no problematic ingredients that could cause irritation or infection and it has no silicone component, making it safe for use with any toy. I daresay this is the most hypoallergenic lube on the market.

It also will not stain or damage any type of fabric, so no need to worry about your expensive sheets.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The feel of this lube is very similar to natural vaginal lubricant. It is very slick and not tacky, greasy, or sticky. It pours out of the squeeze bottle well. It is more of a liquid than a gel and some may find it too runny or thin, particularly for anal use. If you apply it to something vertical, it will run down the surface slowly. I would describe it as neither thick nor thin.

When it is in the bottle, you can see cloudiness from the cellulose, but you can't feel that because the particles are so small.

Unlike silicone, this lube will wash off completely leaving no residue.

Taste / Aroma

Sliquid H2O has absolutely no taste that I can detect. It tastes like thick water. If I huff it right out of the bottle, it has an extremely mild clean scent reminiscent of a fragrance free soap. Once out of the bottle, I can't smell it at all.

Performance

As the bottle says, this lube "lasts longer than most Hollywood marriages." It lasts quite a while when used vaginally. If you use it with exposure to air, it will naturally dry out faster. I have found that it works well for at least 20-30 minutes. Reapplication isn't difficult because the packaging is easy to use one-handed.

I have had this bottle for quite a while and I find it remarkable that I still have half the bottle. A little goes a long way. I usually use a couple drops in one session.

Cleanup is very simple: it comes off with wipes or you can just leave it on your skin and it won't feel sticky once it dries. It washes off completely with soap and water.

Packaging

This lube comes in three sizes: .17 oz/5 ml, 4.2 oz/125 ml, and 8.5 oz/255 ml. The first is a sample pack with enough for one use, the latter two are clear polyethylene (PETE) plastic bottles with press open/press close caps. I have had the smaller bottle for over a year and I have no complaints about packaging. It certainly does not dry up as long as you keep it closed. I have noticed that the spout on the cap gets clogged up but I have not had to clean it out; the lube still comes out well.

If you consider 5 ml (the sample pack) to be enough for one use, then the bottles will be 25 and 51 uses, respectively. The price (using MSRP) per use is then 52¢ and 39¢ respectively. I find that 5 ml is a generous amount and use less than that on average use.

If you travel with this, I recommend squeezing out some air before closing it and putting it in a sealed waterproof bag. It could leak with changes in air pressure. If you are traveling by air in the USA, you should note that the bottles are too large to put in carry-on luggage because of the TSA's restrictions on liquids.

The packaging has lots of information including the ingredients, "The Sliquid Promise," and some product info.

The ingredients are*:

Purified Water: Also known as dihydrogen monoxide, ranks a 10/10 on the safety scale.
Plant Cellulose (from Cotton): Adds fiber to your diet! Ranks 10/10 on the safety scale.
Cyanoposis (Guar Conditioners): Extracted from the endosperm of Cyanopsis tetragonalba, a legume native to India used as cow fodder. A common food additive with many uses as it increases viscosity. I once knew a woman allergic to this, but it is exceedingly rare. Ranks a 9/10 on the safety scale. (The label spelled it wrong.)
Potassium sorbate: A preservative that inhibits molds and yeast. Though it is a skin/eye irritant in concentration, it is highly unlikely to cause any irritation in such a small amount. It is also a common food additive. Ranks a 9/10 on the safety scale.
Citric acid: Prevents scurvy! This is added to adjust the pH. Ranks a 10/10 on the safety scale.

* Information from Environmental Working Group's SkinDeep Cosmetics Database. Safety scale is mine, based on their scale of toxicity.

Personal comments

This is one of my absolute favorites, always stocked in my arsenal. I love this lube because it is compatible with all materials and never irritates me. I am very picky with my lube and require no icky ingredients. I also like how easy to use the packaging is. I consider the price to be a good value.

If you have any skin sensitivities, I would recommend this lube first without a doubt.
Follow-up commentary
This is still one of my favorite lubes. My only complaint is that the cap can get a little crusty with lube dried on it. It's very basic and good for general use, but I like to use Ride H2O when I need something a little thicker. A big pro for me still is that it has no taste. Everyone should try H2O!

I just went looking for the sample pack here at EF and I cannot find it. Can you message me a link where I can find the sample pack? Thanks!!!

Eden only carries the smaller bottle. You can buy the larger bottler and the sample pack directly from Sliquid or other sex shops.

Good review; I especially appreciated the safety scale rating. I also like that this will prevent scurvy (well, at least a little) if I'm stranded on a desert isle with only my lube to protect me from a lifetime of bloody gums.

Incredibly helpful review! I'm looking to switch over from another Sliquid lube (the organics one, it was WONDERFUL, but for some reason it left me itchy), would you recommend this one or another one?
  • Contributor: ghalik
Brittany: Yes, I would give this one a try. It has fewer ingredients that could be irritating. Maybe you're allergic to one of the plant ingredients in the organic version.
