An ocean of pleasure

This is a long-lasting water-based lube which is great for most uses. It's too runny for anal play, but is great for any other sexual activity. It's condom-safe, toy-safe, and body-safe, thanks to its water-based formula which has no parabens, glycols, or glycerin.

Use

Sliquid Sea is a high quality water-based lubricant which is good for anything other than anal sex. It's a fairly thin lube, so most people probably wouldn't find it thick enough for anal intercourse.

It works well for masturbation or vaginal intercourse. It is odorless and has no flavor, so it's not objectionable when it comes to oral sex. As a water-based lube, it's safe to use with condoms and it's compatible with all your toys, even those made from silicone.

Sliquid Sea is a good choice for those women who are prone to yeast infections as it has no sugars and does not contain any glycerin, glycols, or glycerols. Also, those who are concerned about parabens will be happy to know that Sliquid doesn't use those types of preservatives.

As with Sliquid's other water-based lubes, cellulose is the main ingredient of Sliquid Sea, but this lube also contains several seaweed extracts for a slightly different consistency. It has a very natural feeling to it and it lasts a long time.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This is a relatively thin lube, with less viscosity than many. It's not watery, but it was not as thick as I'd expected. It feels very natural, somewhere in between saliva and vaginal secretions.

I found it to be a bit runny when used on toys, and it tends to drip somewhat. Also, I found that I had to use a fair amount on silicone toys, but it wasn't a problem. I wouldn't recommend it for anal sex because it probably wouldn't stay in place very well. Also, most people find thicker gels to be more comfortable for anal play.

There's no stickiness at all, not even when it eventually dries. I assume this is due to the lack of sugars.

Taste / Aroma

This lubricant has essentially no odor or taste. If you put your nose right up against it you may be able to discern a very slight aroma, but it's almost completely unnoticeable. Similarly, it has no obvious flavor, so it wouldn't cause any problems during oral sex.

Performance

Unlike other thin lubes I've tried, this one doesn't evaporate immediately and doesn't become sticky with use. I'm able to use it for a very long masturbation session without applying any extra lube or spraying water on it to restore it.

It dries clear, leaving no spots on your sheets, and has no visible residues.

Once you're done it is very easy to wash any remaining lube off your skin or toys. I found it much easier to clean up than any of my other lubricants. Of course, being so soluble in water means that it would be useless for any sort of sexual activity in a pool, tub, or shower, as it would wash away instantly.

Packaging

This lubricant comes packaged in the same bottles Sliquid uses for all of their lubes. When you start to get near the end of the bottle it can be difficult to squeeze out the last few milliliters, but this 125 ml (4.2 fluid ounce) bottle is easier to handle than the larger (255 ml / 8.5 fl. oz.) bottle used for some of Sliquid's products.

The lid is easy to operate and does not tend to leak. When traveling I would put the bottle inside a plastic bag, however, just in case.

The packaging is very attractive and while not as classy as the Sliquid Organics line, it doesn't call attention to itself the way some other company's products do.

Special Features

As with other lubricants made by Sliquid, the ingredient list contains no unpleasant chemicals. There is no glycol, glycerol, or glycerin which could cause yeast infections. Instead, cellulose is the main thickener. Also, they don't use parabens (which have been linked to cancer in some studies) and instead rely on citric acid and potassium sorbate, which are among the safest preservatives available. Why use any preservatives at all? Because without any preservatives, any lube kept at room temperature would quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold.

In addition to the cellulose found in all of Sliquid's water-based lubricants, Sliquid Sea is formulated with several other compounds to make it slippery and long-lasting. Several of the ingredients are made from seaweed (hence the name). Presumably the mix of ingredients takes advantage of the unique properties of the individual compounds in order to make it so slippery and long-lasting.

Ingredients

• Purified water

• Plant cellulose — The main thickener is cellulose, which is found in all plants, but Sliquid uses cellulose from cotton. Unlike the sugary glycols found in many other water-based lubes, cellulose doesn't provoke yeast infections.

• Guar conditioners — Another thickener (often used in food), this comes from the guar bean (Cyamopsis tetragonolobus) which is an edible bean, similar to green beans.

• Carrageenan — Often used as a vegetarian alternative to gelatin in foods, thanks to its ability to form gels (which is obviously useful for lube), carrageenan is extracted from red seaweed (Chondrus crispus).

• Wakame — Another seaweed (Undaria pinnatifida), this is the one you'll find in miso soup at your favorite Japanese restaurant.

• Nori — The third seaweed on the list, Nori is the Japanese name for several edible species in the Porphyra genus. The thin black outer wrapping of sushi is made from Nori.

• Potassium Sorbate — This is a preservative, which prevents molds and bacteria from growing in your lube!

• Citric Acid — Another preservative. It's what makes lemons sour.
Follow-up commentary
After further use I've continued to be impressed by this lubricant. It's great stuff and I'd be happy to buy more of it in the future.
