Starting out Spreading
Good kit for those new to spreader bars, but not as versatile or high quality as I was hoping for!
Published:
Pros
Come with a locking case, comfortable cuffs and collar
Cons
Cheap blindfold, smaller spreader bar too small
The Fetish Fantasy Series Spread 'em bar and cuff set by Pipedream is a nifty little beginners set for bondage play. The kit comes with two metal bars: one short to go between the wrists, and one longer bar to keep legs spread apart. There are four neoprene cuffs with velcro straps for the wrists and ankle, one collar with a ring on it, and a blindfold. Included is also a neoprene belt to connect the two bars by one of the rings on the bars, and a black case to store and lock away all the items. A little (cheap) lock and key are provided to lock the case, but I would recommend getting a slightly more heavy-duty lock and key if you really want to keep wandering eyes out of your bondage business.
As far as use goes, I found this kit slightly disappointing. The smaller bar to keep wrists apart isn't quite long enough to give me a real bondage feel, it makes it feel like I'm playing pretend bondage. The ankle spreader bar is a bit better for length, and would make movement very awkward with ankles cuffed to the bar. The cuffs and collar are similar to those included in the Under the bed restraint system by Sportsheets; they are lightly padded (and pretty comfortable) with long velcro straps. Unfortunately, the blindfold was totally useless. It's made of cheap material and doesn't quite fit right. I kept wiggling it off just by moving my eyebrows. When my man and I tried using this kit, we mostly ended up just switching to the under the bed system. This kit might be a little more useful to spread someone out length-wise -- using the smaller spreader bar to attach to the top of a bed and the legs spreader bar to the foot-board of a bed.
I would not travel with these.. or, if you are going to- I would suggest doing as another reviewer (Shadowfall) wrote- put this kit in a checked bag and put an easily visible note explaining what exactly the kit is for, to remove all doubt. The case does make this a nice kit to move around with locally, though. I would only spot-clean the cuffs and the bars, and try not to submerge the bars in water. I would also dry out the bars as best I could and leave them out to dry more if needed.
Overall, this is a good kit for those interested in finding out out what spreader bars are all about. It definitely gave my partner and I a better idea of how spreader bars are used in bondage play, but in the end I think we would buy a more heavy-duty kit if we really wanted to get into spreader bar play.

Great review! Do the bars have a nice solid feel to them or are they a light weight?
-
Thanks for the review.

The bars are a bit of a mix.. I can't imagine my partner and I could break them unless we reeeeeeaaally tried (like using tools and such) so I think they're sturdy enough for most bondage play, but they are pretty light weight at the same time.

Good review and what an age we live in when we have to factor in what the TSA will think in our reviews. lol.
-
good review, thanks for sharing. I have never had any luck with the fetish fantasy series. So I will pass on these

I laughed at the TSA note. Thanks for including your feelings on the length of the wrist bar; it does look small.

Great review! I have been very interested in this set, but feel like the ankle bar would get in the way far too much and would end up getting no use with us. I really enjoyed reading your review on this. I might decide to go for it one day, but for now I'll pass.

Great review, but also going to opt out.

thank you

I'm also curious to know how sturdy these are. I feel like they'd bend if used harshly.
-
Not sure.. I haven't exactly tried to bend them
