Dr. Devine's Playchest
The price of Devine's Playchest is a huge factor in deciding to purchase it but the many uses I get out of it make it worthwhile.

Pros
Relatively big, interesting design
Cons
Price, hinges/lock stick
The Devine Playchest finally resurfaced and I was so excited to get it that I ordered both the Midnight Black and Black versions.
When mine arrived, I expected it to be big but I couldn't believe how huge it was. I've adjusted to the size now though. It measures 15 inches in length and 8 inches wide. The base weight of this is 5 pounds. The total height of the Playchest is 10 inches.
Before I opened the chest, I just looked over the outside and noticed some edges still had glue on it. For most places, you should be able to remove it by wiping it with a damp towel. I also noticed one side stuck out more than the other. I tried realiging it but it didn't do anything.
♡ Glue on the edges
♡ Side sticking out
The design of the Playchest is akin to an old school doctor's bag. I love it because it's not something you see often anymore. There is a strap attached to the the back of the chest that locks in the front. The closure in the front of the chest is a button that also locks. This provides a double lock but it's more of a hassle for me because it is really hard to press and open. I find the key that opens the lock is really thick and there's 2 of them in a chain attached to the handles. This makes the sheath covering it bulge out and annoy me so I removed one of the keys. When trying to open/close the lock, it's easy to jam the lock so I just forgo locking it. There's a top handle on each division and the keys attached to one. It's really creaky and hard to open and move the handles. I thought it might be because the materials had yet to be broken into but it is still like that now. When you open the chest, there is a stretchy mesh pocket on each opposing side. The inside has a removable divider with a small pocket on one side. There are also legs on the bottom that helps to distribute the weight.
♡ Inside
The Playchest is light if there are a few items in it but if you stack a lot of things in it, it will become really cumbersome to move around. Initially, the amount of space inside felt restrictive so I took out my divider. It doesn't make much of a difference but it helps visually. There is a lot of room to stuff various things ranging from toys to other personal products.
Both colors have faux-python and patent accents. The Playchest is made from faux-leather which is water and wear resistant. It can be easily cleaned with water and soap. I haven't loaded mine to maximum capacity but it's getting there and I haven't noticed any wear or tears in the material.
I think for the price that it is, I didn't expect the design flaws. But I'll continue to buy these because the storage it does offer is worth it. I really hope Devine releases new color options, maybe even for the Holiday season though I doubt that will happen.

Experience
These got discontinued before I had a chance to order them last time. So I didn't want to take a chance and miss out again. Even though the quality is not what I expected, I still ordered a few because I have various uses for them, besides just toy storage.
I'm a makeup artist and nail technician so I also use these chests to store makeup, nail polish and other beauty products/tools.
If I have a short trip, I also use this as an overnight bag and stuff it with my clothes and toiletries. I even took it on a flight and there were no TSA restrictions.

Follow-up commentary
3 months after original review
I regret not returning this playchest when I got it because it fell apart completely soon after. The outside hinges came off and can't be reattached unless I cut into it. I would suggest inspecting it carefully when it arrives should you want to invest in this storage chest.
