This massager works great if you are looking for something to relax your muscles. If you need only the most powerful deep rumbly vibrations to get off then it will work great for your clit too! Unfortunately its power is also its downfall as it is very limited in its power settings. If one of its two speeds doesn't suit you, you are out of luck!
This toy is packaged and marketed as a body massager for aching and sore muscles and it can also be used as clitoral stimulator, which is the primary use I bought it for. I feel it does a pretty decent job at getting to most areas of the body that might need stimulation.
I definitely don't recommend it for insertion since friction is the only thing keeping the interchangeable attachments on the vibrator. I could see anyone trying to use it for that, losing those attachments with unpleasant results. Besides, three out of the four attachments it comes with don't really make sense for insertion anyway.
The body of the vibrator is made of an ugly, grey, hard plastic. This vibrator was definitely not designed to look pretty. On the other hand, if you are trying to be sneaky it is so ugly and utilitarian looking no one will think it has anything to do with sex either.
The four attachments that it comes with are made of PVC which feels like a soft plastic to the touch. It doesn't have any real give to the material, but unlike the plastic of the body, which would crack or break if you try to bend it, the attachments bend quite easily. The four attachments have varying shapes and texture for you to experiment with: a small and a large cup, a nubby "scalp" attachment, and a blunt nub. I didn't notice any strong smells to any of it.
Over all, I felt the massager was very plain and kind of ugly looking. The toy doesn't bring sex to mind at all when you see it. That can be a good thing, as if you leave it out no one would assume it's a sex toy. On the other hand, it certainly doesn't set a romantic scene if you are a visually oriented person.
It is smaller than I was expecting, about the size of 24 ounce bottle of soda. By all means though, it is much bulkier than most clitoral stimulators and its size, along with the cord, makes it less than travel friendly. The cord is of a pretty decent length and I had no issues with it reaching from the nearest plug.
I thought the handle on it would be convenient, but the weight of the toy is all in the head where the motor is, which means that it is difficult to maneuver with the handle. I found it much easier to grip the body of the toy to use it. Huge disclaimer though: if you're familiar with previous versions of this massager it has recently undergone a major downgrade in attachments. Instead of seven you now get four, and the ones that got the ax might just happen to be your favorites.
Well, lets get to the point— the Wahl only has two settings. The low setting I found to have about average vibrations (about 3 vrooms or so) and a little on the buzzy side. The high setting has very deep, rumbly vibrations (definitely 5 vrooms no question). You turn it from off to low and high by sliding the white switch on the handle.
The vibrations travel pretty well from the shaft inside the head to whatever attachment you currently have installed. It was nice that the head didn't vibrate overly much since that is where I like to grip it, and it didn't make my hand go numb. The massager was also surprisingly quiet. I don't think I would have issues with my kids hearing it a room over, although it might be possible to hear it on the other side of a closed door if the house was really quiet and you were listening for it. Personally, I'm not worried that much about privacy. I'm really much more concerned about whether or not it's loud enough for it to be distracting while I'm using it — very subjective I know — but I had no problems.
It is definitely NOT waterproof. In fact I would keep it away from the bathroom entirely as I'm not sure it would deal well with moist environments.
Generally I find this toy fairly simple to care for. I just remove whatever attachments I used and throw them in a sink of hot soapy water, then wipe down the body with an antibacterial wipe. After drying everything off I put it all in a dresser drawer. I'm a big fan of silicone lube so it's nice that there is no worries that my lube might damage my toy, like with some of the high-end toys.
The packaging was a simple thin cardboard box. It has a picture of the massager as well as basic functions on the outside. The inside included the massager, loose in the box, as well as the instruction pamphlet and a small plastic baggy with the four attachments in it.
I bought this massager thinking it would be a simple no-frills powerhouse that I could fall back on to get the job done. Although I can't entirely fault the massager, every time I used this toy I gave up totally frustrated and unsatisfied. The low setting is too low and could get me close, but never quite coming. High is just way too high; they traveled very deep and gave me an intense urge to pee. If I persisted, my clit would go numb and I would get nowhere. At least if you use it for massaging muscles the deep penetrating vibrations work great!
Follow-up commentaryI still like it33 months after original review
Everything in the original review still applies. This thing makes an awesome muscle massager and still gets regular use as such in my house. Although I normally require only the most powerful of clit vibes to get off (think highest settings on the Mimi and the Tango), this thing is too little on low and far too much on high.
