Versatile Yet Sharp-Smelling

Dona by System Jo brings us a natural, paraben- and cruelty-free linen spray with multiple uses. Though it doesn't last long in the air and is hard to detect on linens, the sharp scent clears to a nice soft floral aroma on the skin. For a quick awakening experience, use this in the bathroom or the bedroom. As a very light body spray, this will do fine. It won't last long enough to bother you, so the sharp scent can be forgiven.

Use

Dona is a brand new line of bath and body products from system Jo. A line of sensual bath and body products, these aphrodisiac-infused concoctions increase the energy, stamina and well-being of the user. The products not only cleanse, moisturize and rehydrate the skin, but make the experience of taking care of one's body a sensual experience.

Each product in the line:
-is created with natural and naturally derived ingredients
-is obtained from renewable resources
-is eco-friendly and biodegradable
-contains no mineral oil, petrolatum, lanolin, or other petroleum derivatives
-contains no parabens, sulfates, harsh chemicals, or preservatives
-is cruelty-free, not tested on animals

Per Dona's product descriptions, so graciously provided to me by Cookie Monster Mike, contrary to popular belief, aphrodisiacs can not only be ingested for full effect, but also arouse the senses via inhalation or absorption into the skin. For this purpose, each product is infused with one of six aphrodisiacs. They are:

Acai - an Amazonian berry, containing an antioxidant known to reduce cholesterol and blood clots. Increases stamina.
Blue lotus - an Egyptian water lily that provides relaxation and a sense of euphoria. Heightens awareness and tranquility, and is legendary for increasing a couple's bond.
Camu camu - a South American fruit of the rainforest, known to rejuvenate one's energy and boost the immune system. The fruit contains more vitamin C than any other botanical.
Goji berry - A Chinese plant also high in vitamin C, known to enhance libido by increasing testosterone levels.
Mangosteen - an Indonesian fruit by original, this is rich in fiber, protein, calcium, potassium, an vitamins. It's a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. Helps stimulate vitality and mood.
Pomegranate - native to Iran, creates strong sexual stimulation, as well as provides antioxidants to keep skin young, and lift energy.

The five steps, or rituals, are described as follows:
1. Relax — to slow down and set the sensual tone
2. Cleanse — to purify the body with luxurious lathers, exfoliators, and gels
3. Nourish — to make the skin kissably soft
4. Illuminate — to enhance natural beauty and space
5. Engage – to share in fun with sensual play products

As part of the five step line, this linen spray is meant to illuminate your sensual space. It's an aphrodisiac-infused scented spray that can be used to mist sheets and body, or even the room you're in. The effect of the mangosteen scent is meant to enhance the space you're in, as well as your awareness of it, it appears. The mango scent certainly stimulates one's mood. I'm just not sure it was appropriate as a linen spray. read on to find out more.

The ingredients used here are, in order of prevalence:
Purified Water, Caprylic Capric Glycerides, Polyglycerol-6 Dioleate, Glyceryl Caprylate Caprate, Propanediol, Saccharide Isomerate, Passion Fruit Seed Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Açaí pulp Oil, Babassu Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Mangosteen Fruit, and fragrance.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The scent is powerful, but fades quite quickly. In the air it is incredibly light and dissipates within a matter of five minutes.

When sprayed on linens the scent is not very thick. By this I mean it doesn't penetrate the space around the linens whatsoever. To smell the scent, one needs to put their nose nearly directly in the linens; from more than 4" away you can't smell the spray at all.

When used as a body spray, the mist is at once tacky on the skin, but almost immediately dries to soft texture. It can't be felt at all on the skin. The smell changes from the sharp, candy-like smell to a much softer, gentler floral tone. It is much nicer on the nose when applied to the skin rather than in the air or on linens.

Taste / Aroma

I don't recommend tasting this at all: even though it smells like candy, it's not for consumption! So, if you spray it on your lover's skin and it gets licked off... well, don't say I didn't tell you so. I imagine it would be a little bitter, or at the very least, taste like perfume. It is, after all, basically a diluted perfume.

The smell is at once what I'll describe as a sharp orange Pez candy scent. It smells like an artificial orange candy. It's very strong and reminds me a bit of bathroom spray. It's not exactly pleasant. In the sheets, it's invigorating for sure, and I wonder why this specific scent was chosen for a bedroom spray. When I think of sheets I think of either sleeping or fucking. The orange candy scent neither lulls me to sleep nor does it turn me on. It wakes me up a bit, which I suppose is useful, indeed, if one is tired yet willing to engage in activity under the sheets. It may give you a bit of a boost.

On the skin, the scent is entirely different. It is very light and pleasant; much more floral and natural-smelling. Other reviewers have noted the mangosteen scent in other Dona body products as entirely different from the biting artificial orange scent. Apparently the essence used here reacts differently when mingling with other products, as well as one's own pheromones. So, while it smelled light and floral on me, when mixing with your own personal aroma the scent may react differently. I can't imagine it being unpleasant when used as a body spray, however. It's not an unpleasant scent by any means, but for me is simply too sharp when sprayed in the air.

Performance

The spray mists evenly and thickly from the bottle. One squirt from 2' away is enough to saturate a 2' x 2' area. Therefore, at this low price level and with a full 4.5 fluid ounces, the linen/body spray/air freshener should last you at least a couple months with regular use.

The smell dissipates from the skin quite quickly - within about 20 minutes I'd say. From porous surfaces such as sheets or a couch, for example, it lasts much longer - up to 8 hours, slowly diminishing in strength over time. Though the smell does last where it lands, it is not strong where it lies. The nose must be nearly touching the object it has landed upon to detect its scent.

Packaging

The spray comes in the bottle you see on the product profile page. It has a plastic cap to protect from leaks. The pump is very efficient and fluid. The liquid does not clog the pump like many products do, requiring hot water and picking at the entrance to the pump to remove it.

The package design is very appealing - a modern yet subtle floral look, with a simple lace pattern over a solid mango-colored background. The only revealing features of the package are the words 'aphrodisiac infused ritual' on the front, and 'sensual' written on the back in reference to the sensual nature of the spray. This would make a lovely gift to anyone who enjoys sensuality and indulging themselves in scented pleasures.

The bottle is recyclable wherever type '1' plastics are accepted.

If you'd like to travel with this, be sure to place it in a sealed plastic bag before taking off. As your plane ascends into high altitude the pressure will cause the container to leak a bit, and your clothes will smell like major mango for a while. If you plan to carry this on, you'll need to transfer it to a much smaller, TSA-approved container.

Special Features

Dona's Rose Petals

Dona also carries artificial scented rose petals that may be re-scented with this spray. They're great for spicing up a bath or enlivening a room's atmosphere with a touch of delicate romance.

Personal comments

Via Cookie Monster Mike's generosity, I was able to view directly the [presumed] product descriptions and product line goals from Dona's personal files. There was written that the word 'dona' means 'lady' in Italian. Having lived in Italy for a year and being fluent in Italian, I have to tell you I'm disappointed that System Jo [presumably] did such a minimal amount of research before making such a claim.

The word for 'lady' or 'woman' is in fact 'donna.' While creating an entire line with a name intended to gear the products towards women, I am not sure if this was deliberate or a mistake.
