My Dog Doesn't Even Like It
I’m fairly indifferent about this balm. I probably won’t get much use out of it due to the fact that it’s lacking in the areas that it shouldn’t be. When I look for lip balms, I want them to moisturize and stay put. I want my lips to feel soft for a decent amount of time before I have to reapply. I didn’t find any of those things with the Matte Lip Balm. In truth, this little pot will probably go into my two nieces’ make-up kit.

+ Small, discreet container
Cons
- Constantly need to reapply
- Doesn't moisturize very well

The Matte Lip Balm by Not Soap Radio is marketed as a lip moisturizer. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it to be very moisturizing for more than a very limited amount of time. I constantly needed to reapply it. It goes on completely clear. It adds no gloss to your natural lip color. It does seem a bit greasy when you apply it at first. Don't mistake this for shine. It will quickly soak into your lips. It’s not sticky or tacky, but it just seems to vanish off of your lips after a very short time. My lips do feel softer after having used it, but not for very long. If you want the feeling to last, reapply.
Unlike the stock photo, my balm is light pink in color. It smells lightly of grapes mixed with an indistinct, generic, sweet flavor that your average lip gloss/lip balms usually smell of. Its taste mimics its smell. Please don’t lick it though. You don’t need any more reasons to reapply than you already do.
It comes in a 1/3 ounce pot, so I found my finger to be my applicator. Unfortunately, this leaves me with a balmy finger. I'm then left with a hunt for a napkin, or a smear on my shorts after each application. Each time I put it on I’m reminded why I don’t use balms or glosses in these types of containers.
It’s small and discreet, although it’s just a lip balm so there’s no real need to hide it from anyone. The most scandalous part of the packaging is the picture of the lips on the sticker.
Ingredient List:
Amygdalus Dulcis (Almond Oil)
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil)
Beeswax
Persea Gratisssima (Avocado Oil)
Mangifera Indica (Mango Seed Butter)
Theobroma Cacao (Cacao Seed Butter)
Flavor
Tocopheryl (Vitamin E)
Flavor
Yes, they listed 'Flavor,' twice. I'm not sure what flavor, and I'm not sure why.

Experience
I’m not sure if it’s the ‘flavoring’ that’s listed in the ingredients, but the smell and the taste of the Matte Lip Balm seems very generic, regardless of all the natural ingredients. My dog sniffed it on my lips, but wouldn’t lick it… and he licks his own butt.
Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
I don't know if I've necessarily started to like it more, but I'm still using it. I keep it on the table beside where I write, so it's convenient to use. It's also where I tend to keep whatever other balms I'm using as well. I can't speak to how it has or has not helped moisturize my lips, but at least it's something on my lips, as opposed to them going dry. Keeping it handy is better than nothing. It's also a good diversion to snacking or smoking!
