Melt Me, Rub Me, Love Me
The Jimmyjane afterglow massage candle is a luxurious sensual gift for yourself or someone you love. The candle is beautiful burning on its own and when it melts becomes a warm and silky massage product. We've also used this, to put it delicately, everywhere except the absolute most delicate regions. Or less delicately, I'm not going to let this oil inside my body, but I'm ok with it everywhere else, and have had no problems at all.

Pros
Beautiful candle, gift packaging, great massage product
Cons
None
This is not my first Jimmyjane massage candle and it won't be my last. However, this is my only "special edition" candle; although I can't seem to find any differences between the special edition and the original, aside from the fragrance complexities - this one being the incredible combination of absinthe and sugar water.
The Afterglow candle arrives packaged in a glossy cube, elegantly detailing the products' image and features. Once it is opened, there's a small manual for the product inside, and then the candle, lovingly encased in thick cardboard and covered in a frosted clear tape. Unfortunately, on this one, the tape did leak a bit and the underside of the manual had some oil on it upon arrival but it was nothing detrimental.
The candle itself is 2.5" cube of high gloss white ceramic with a spout on one corner and a light gray Jimmyjane logo on the opposite lower corner. The spout makes for easier pouring of the massage oil without as much risk for a mess. It contains 4.5 oz of all natural, clean-burning, solid massage oil that is free of paraffin, dye, phthalates, parabens, sulfates, animal products, and petro-chemicals. The candle should burn for about 30 hours total but may be less if you use a lot of the product for massage.
When you light the Afterglow candle, the golden candlelight shines beautifully through the white ceramic. The scent also releases quickly and will float through an entire room in about as long as it takes to create a small pool of massage oil - about ten minutes. Even if you aren't into the massage candle concept, the candle on its own, for its fragrance and its appearance, is more than worthwhile.
If you are, however, into the massage candle concept, you're in for a treat. Once the small pool of oil forms, simply blow out the candle and pour it on yourself or your partner anywhere you like. It's warm but really not what I'd consider hot and I've never had a problem with it burning myself or my partner, even in more sensitive areas. The oil rubs into the skin easily, without any waxiness, but will not dry up or absorb entirely for about a half hour so you can get a good length massage out of it without reapplication. It will leave a bit of a sheen on your skin if it's not rubbed in entirely but washes off with water and the help of just a bit of soap or a washcloth. If you choose not to wash up afterward, the scent will linger lightly on the skin for a few hours afterward. I haven't had any problems with it staining my sheets yet but I haven't ruled out the thought that it could - and quite frankly, I'm not willing to risk my sheets for the sake of reviewing. Forgive me.
The candle can also be used as an intro to temperature play and wax play for those that are new to it and concerned that hotter substances might create might burn. It has a very low melting point making it very safe for applying to the skin.
Now onto the fragrance. I've been trying to figure out, for two weeks, how to describe it. And I'm still not sure. It's sweet. A kind of pure sweetness that's neither fruity or floral, just like subtle fresh sugar cane. So the sugar water part works. And it's got a spicy element, but no heat - it's a complex herbal scent that's still not overwhelming with a touch of the fragrance of greenery. I'm honestly not sure if it smells anything like absinthe but whatever it does smell like, I do like it. It's not overpowering, but it's noticeable. It's sweet but doesn't make the room smell like candy. It's grown-up but not musky. It also doesn't trigger any of my many allergies, which is good because mid-massage sneezing fits are NOT sexy.
I really have no complaints about this product. I have a small collection going and although there is one fragrance I don't like so far (the Bourbon in the original Afterglow), the candles themselves are pure bliss. And just in case you can bear to part with this beauty, it makes a wonderful gift. Not only would I be comfortable giving one to just about anyone, I am giving them out to the four women in my office this Christmas.

Experience
I have ridiculously, stupendously, annoyingly sensitive skin. I'm allergic to my own pets, all of my boyfriend's body products, pretty much everything growing outside, most makeup, Vaseline body lotion, and all laundry detergents except two. I am not allergic to this candle. Crazy exception? I think not. My pale reactive skin eats this oil up and doesn't complain one bit.
I do have to wash it off if it's not rubbed in for about a half hour, but my boyfriend whose skin is not as regularly moisturized as mine soaks it up entirely in about half that.

Follow-up commentary
9 months after original review
I still love the Afterglow candles even after trying similar products made by LELO and Swede. I've given several as gifts and own easily a half dozen myself. The quality of this product simply cannot be beaten!
