Holds Its Own

Shaving is something that a lot of people do, and shaving creams are here to make that job easier. This shaving cream goes on like a gel and can be turned into a much more visible and easy to see cream, which is fantastic for those of us who usually need corrective lenses to see clearly and don't wear them in the shower. Overall, this is a solid product. It isn't extraordinary, but it does hold its own.

Use

Shaving is something that most of us do, and I know a lot of us are always looking for a way to make it better. Shaving creams can cut down on a lot of potential irritation that often accompanies a nice clean shave. This particular one doesn't do anything super special, but it does hold its own once you get it figured out.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The consistency of this stuff is interesting, to say the least. Well, it's not so bad when you're playing with it in a shower but I'm not writing this review from the shower so I really noticed just how ... stringy? it is. Well, stringy may not be the right word. It comes out of the bottle easily, dolloping onto your hand in a gelatinous blob in your hand. The stringy part comes in when you go to take it away and a little string seems to want to stay attached to the bottle. You can easily break the string by wiping the applicator edge of the bottle against your hand. It does stay in place fairly nicely, and doesn't really feel sticky or greasy or anything like that.

Taste / Aroma

If you get reeeeeeeeeeeeeally close, you can detect the faintest soapy smell. Otherwise, I haven't been able to smell a single thing when using this. I also haven't tasted it, because it just seemed like a bad idea. I'd also recommend you not try to taste it either.

Performance

This was a tricky one for me. At first, I couldn't seem to get it to work right. I had read that it turns into a cream if you rub it around, and I rubbed it around, and it didn't do anything other than stay translucent enough for me to not be able to see very well. It didn't give me any cleaner of a shave than any of my other creams, and so I let it sit for a while. The next time I tried it, I used a little bit more than I had the previous time, closer to a quarter sized dollop than a dime sized dollop, and actually got it to cream up. It reminded me an awful lot of Coochy with how it did that. Something I learned about Coochy long after I had written the follow up review. After a few more uses, I still get clean shaves and I don't really experience any irritation afterwards.

A lot of shaving creams can double as hair conditioners, but this one seems to act more like a shampoo than a conditioner. I've tried it as such, and while it would do in an absolute pinch, I'd still try to pack shampoo.

Packaging

You get a very generous 8 fluid ounces in this bottle, and for the price you're paying just over a dollar an ounce. The cap depresses on one side and lifts the other up for easy dispensing, and can easily be closed by pressing it against anything with some pressure. The bottle itself squeezes easily, and while it's obvious that it's a shaving gel for women, it doesn't say anything more risque than that. So you can easily pass this off as something you shave your legs or your underarms with and leave it in the shower with your other toiletries.

On various parts of the bottle you can read the little product blurb, the directions (wet area to be shaved, apply moderate amount of cream to the area to be shaved, shave and rinse), a warning to discontinue use if irritation occurs, and the ingredients: (INCI) Hydroxyethylcellulose, glycerin, sodium laureth sulfate, isopropyl alcohol, aloe vera, tween 20, carbomer, fragrance, di water, methylparaben, propyl paraben. If you have sensitivities to glycerin or parabens, you may want to avoid this cream.

Experience

The very first time I used this, I wanted to just toss it. Well, that's a bit harsh, but I still wasn't terribly pleased with it. It didn't lather up at all, and I really didn't feel like it did all that fantastic of a job. No better than any other shaving cream I have already anyway. But I knew I had to give it a fair shot, so I tried it a few more times and I have no idea what I was doing wrong the first time, but it lathered every other time I've used it. Maybe the amount of hair has something to do with it, and it lathers better with more hair around. When I first got it, I wouldn't have recommended it to anybody. But now, I'd recommend it if you're interested in it. It can definitely hold its own.

I still can't see how this is any better than normal shave gel at a department store for less money. Seems to do just fine though, thanks for the insight!

It's really no better or worse than any "normal" shave gel. It works fine, but is a bit pricey.
