Great natural lotion with sleek packaging! (Unscented)
This lotion is great! Attractive, recyclable packaging combined with a quality lotion make this a product I will definitely be purchasing again in the future. While it is somewhat more expensive on EF than elsewhere, I feel it is still worth the price. Please note that this product contains multiple allergens - check if they will affect you before you buy!
Evolution of smooth's Everyday Hand Lotion is meant for external use only, and can be used to hydrate your skin. It is marketed as being effective for all skin types, and while labeled as a hand lotion, it can be used anywhere on your body. This lotion is 97% all-natural, hypoallergenic, paraben- lanolin- phthalate- and dye-free, and though I could not confirm it on the eos website, EF lists it as not having been tested on animals, making this a conscience-free purchase. It comes in a sleek bottle holding 1.5 fluid ounces of lotion.
ALLERGIES: This lotion contains glycerin, aloe, sunflower seed oil, soybean oil, and macadamia nut oil. Those with allergies to any of these substances should not purchase this product! As I have no allergies to ingredients in this type of product myself, I cannot verify whether or not this product will agitate any allergies.
I had thought this lotion might be somewhat thin due to the lightness of the bottle (not sure why this was), but I was pleasantly surprised! It is very thick and creamy, and is easy to squeeze from the bottle. It absorbs into skin pretty quickly when rubbed in, and does not feel heavy or greasy once applied. When squeezed from the bottle, it did not run or make a mess. I would not be worried about spilling if applying it while sitting on a bed or other porous furniture.
I purchased the unscented version of this lotion, and it is indeed scentless. If you prefer your lotions scented, you can also buy this product in Berry and Cucumber Melon. I was concerned that it might smell of aloe, but happily that was not the case! I really cannot stand the smell of aloe.
As this product is not meant to be ingested, I did not taste it, and I suggest that you don't either!
I applied this lotion in the morning after showering, and did not feel the need to apply it for the rest of the day. However, my skin is not very dry, except during the winter, so those with dryer skin may have a different experience. It did brighten up my ashy knees with no problem, and had similar results for my sister, whose skin is slightly dryer than mine.
I sometimes have issues with lotions and similar products irritating my skin, but I did not experience any irritation or itchiness with this hand lotion. I would recommend this product to people with normal skin who do not require extreme hydration (for those who do require a stronger lotion, there are specialty creams out there that would be more effective).
This lotion is packaged in a sleek plastic container. All the labels on the packaging (this includes the ingredient list and the label on the front which doubles as a seal) can be easily peeled from the packaging, leaving it smooth and lettering-free except for the engraved "eos" at the top of the bottle.
The bottle for the unscented variety of this lotion is a pale, sea foam green, and as with all other eos products it can be recycled! I could easily open this product with one hand, but my brother (who is less dexterous) could not. The bottle has a snap top, with a small indentation so that it can be easily opened. I have extremely short nails and can open it with no problem.
The above picture shows the packaging on top of an envelop of Starbucks Via for size comparison. The bottle fits nicely in the palm of my hand. The label on the front reads
"everyday hand lotion
97% natural | paraben-free
Nourishes and refreshes skin.
Smooth on. Touch. Smile."
The label on the back can be unfolded to list the ingredients in French, German, and English, as well as a blurb about how the product is enriched with antioxidants and contains shea and aloe butter. The outer bit of this label also lists the volume of the contents (1.5 fluid ounces/44 milliliters) and directs you to "peel off for a perfect package".
I have not yet experienced any leakage, and do not expect to, as the bottle closes firmly and doesn't open too easily. I set an old physics textbook (just under a thousand pages, hardcover) on top of it with no problems, but any more pressure than that might force the lid open. The packaging is one of my favorite aspects of eos products: they're sleek, appealing, colorful, recyclable, and fit easily into a purse or backpack.
This product is marketed as being 97% all-natural as well as hypoallergenic, phthalate-free, lanolin-free, dye-free, and paraben-free. While these are all great positives, be aware that this product still contains multiple ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions, one of which is glycerin.
This lotion is also enriched with vitamin C (useful for preventing both scurvy and the common cold) and vitamin E (good for your brain and muscles), though probably not a significant enough amount to make much of a difference in your daily intake.
I really love eos, and this lotion is no exception. Velvety smooth, light, portable and in recyclable packaging - it's everything I could want in a hand lotion! I don't feel that it's strong enough to rehabilitate hands that are extremely chapped or cracked from, say, chopping wood in December, but as I couldn't test it on that kind of skin damage I don't know for sure. Regardless, I don't require lotion that strong.
Like I said, the packaging is one of my favorite aspects of eos products. While this isn't as bright as, say, the lip balms, it is still super cute, and wouldn't look out of place in anyone's skincare collection, from a hip teen to a soccer mom.
(no flash in this picture to account for how that might alter the apparent color of the packaging, though they both look pretty close to the reality of the product in my opinion)
My only qualm is with the price. This lotion is listed on Eden Fantasys as being $7.99, but I purchased it elsewhere for about $3. I thought this might be because it was on sale or something, but it is available on the eos website for about $4. Really? I am in no way trying to deter people from purchasing it here, as I feel it is still worth it at the higher price, but it does seem a bit extravagant. I will continue to purchase eos products here, but I do hope they lower the price to match the manufacturer at some point.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it3 months after original review
I've found that the thin plastic of the bottle lets through too much heat, so if I carry this lotion in my pocket it heats up and gets a bit runny. As long as I keep it in my bathroom or in a bag, it's great! The packaging is a bit of a conversation starter - those who don't know of eos want to know what it is, and those who do want to rave about their love of the products! I do wish I'd chosen a scented one, because I'm tending toward scented lotions nowadays, but after reading some reviews of the Berry scent I don't think I'll try it. Overall this is a great lotion, and I don't plan to stop using it any time soon.
