Disarmed Massager
The Octo-pleaser just didn't cut it for our needs. This thing may be great for light 'teasing' but is not good for real massage of aching/tight muscles.

The Pipedream Octo-pleaser is a small and innocent-looking, massager. It is made of hard plastic (hypo-allergenic, food grade, latex and pthalate free) that is much more of a toy than it is a modality for easing aching muscles. The unit looks like a little purple octopus and would probably not merit mention if it were left out on a bathroom vanity, headboard, night stand, or even a coffee table to be honest. It is that innocent in appearance; which is a good thing.
We had purchased it to replace an old wooden massager (looked kind of like a pyramid with wooden balls at the 'points') and this was as close as we could find after a quick search. In retrospect; we should have kept looking as the Octo-pleaser failed to live up to our expectations.
The small "feet" on each leg dug into the skin and 'dragged' during use. This was uncomfortable at best (really more painful) and could only be avoided if we used extremely light pressure. We could not use enough massage lotion/oil to get the octo-pleaser to work pain/discomfort free under any but the lightest touch. This renders the unit useless as a tool to help with aching muscles; the purpose for which we purchased it.
Also, the "head" of the octopus is too small for an average sized woman's hand and way too small for a larger male's hand. This makes the unit uncomfortable to hold, causing hand fatigue, and limiting the time which it can be used. This only reduces its effectiveness as a muscle massager further.
The head/handle is also at an almost perfect 90 degree angle with the massaging 'legs' serving to increase the discomfort/awkwardness involved in using this devise. It is almost like an 'air hockey' paddle and is not conducive to a lengthy massage.
It is possible that the octo-pleaser may be effective as a 'teaser' when used with light pressure and could thus be an interesting addition to the toolbox for foreplay, but we have not tested it for this use.

Follow-up commentary

As much as I was hoping the octo-pleaser would, indeed, be a pleaser it has not been for me. The issue remains the too small 'feet' which tend to dig into the skin instead of moving over/massaging. It does not seem to matter if this use directly on the skin or over top of clothing.
The octo-pleaser has been relegated to 'dust collector' status.

Sorry you didn't like this. Did you try to use it over clothes? It might have less drag that way.

That's pretty much what I expected, that it wouldn't actually work great for massages. Thanks for confirming.
