Cherry Tootsie-Roll Pop in a Jar
Shunga's Massage Cream will leave your skin smelling like candy. I feel like a cherry tootsie roll pop when I wear this lotion. It also tastes sweet and fruity and the scent and taste last a good while after it's been applied. It has a few downsides though that really take away from my overall enjoyment of the product. If it wasn't for the greasy residue I'd give this product five stars, but I just can't get past the tacky feel of the skin.

Pros
Smells great, tastes sweet, a little goes a long way.
Cons
Sticky residue, leaves a greasy feel on the lips if kissed off.
Shunga's Massage Cream is a 7.5oz jar of thick, luxurious body lotion. The name suggests it's meant for massage, although I don't find that to be its best use. It could be used for a sensual rub down, but honestly it absorbs a bit too quickly to really be good for massage, unless you want to use quite a bit of the jar just for a single massage.
When I first opened my jar, which is the Blazing Cherry scent/flavor I thought of tootsie roll pops right away. I really like the scent and since cherry is one of Mike's favorite flavors of yogurt and ice cream, I thought he'd love the scent. When I held it out for him to smell he said that it smelled like Halloween make up. I have no idea where he got that from, as I have never smelled Halloween makeup that smells anything like this Blazing Cherry cream. But, I guess it's safe to say that this scent won't be for everyone.
The cream is rather thick. I have watched Carrie Ann's video review of her Shunga cream and hers is much thinner and will dump out of the tub if placed on its side. Mine is not like that at all, and in fact I can turn it upside down and it won't budge at all. It has the consistency of a thick and creamy yogurt, maybe even a bit thicker than that. I actually have to scoop it out of the jar in order to get some out. Since I've seen that not all are like this I have to wonder if other scents might perform differently, not only in the jar but also on the skin.
Mine went onto the skin very thick and did not rub in very easily. I put on what I would consider to be a normal amount on my arm and went to rub it in. I found it spread around but my arm continued to be a light pink with the cream. I had to rub it in quite a lot to get it to rub in. At first I thought this might mean it was good for massage, but when tried that way it only gave about 5 minutes or so of slickness. This is nice if you want to give a good massage as part of foreplay or something. Then, once it's rubbed in you can kiss or lick it off your partner's skin as it also tasted kind of like cherry flavored candy.
After it was rubbed in it felt kind of tacky, a bit sticky, but not greasy as oil would be. It was kind of in between what an oil would do and what a regular light lotion would leave you with. This tackiness lasted for a good long while, a few hours at least. This kind of turned me off of using it, which was a bummer since I really liked the scent. I tried it again the next day and only used about half the amount that I used the day before. This did work out a lot better, but it also didn't leave me very moisturized, and didn't completely do away with the sticky residue.
Once on my skin the scent did not appall my husband anymore, but it also didn't really do anything to entice him to want to kiss my skin any more than my bare skin with nothing on it would do. He was not bothered by the taste but also didn't think it was anything wonderful. Kissing this lotion off the skin also makes our lips feel a bit greasy, even after it's been absorbed for a while. I also found that after the skin is kissed it will kind of reactivate the stickiness and made my skin feel like I had something on it, like if you accidentally spilled something like ice cream or something on your skin and just rubbed it off with your hand rather than cleaning the skin. If I rubbed my skin this feeling would go away, so it wasn't a big deal, but it's worth mentioning.
The jar is semi discreet. It's just a black jar and looks like any other cream, but there is the usual Shunga art on it, which is a couple in the throes of passion. The tub comes in a cardboard box that has the same couple on it and inside is a little folded up pamphlet that tells you a bit about the other Shunga products. The ingredients didn't raise too many alarms for me, it contains glycerin but I won't be using this internally so I am not concerned with that. It's sweetened with sorbitol, which is a sugar alcohol and saccharin which is an artificial sweetener.

Experience
While this review might sound negative toward the Shunga Massage Cream it's really not that I don't like the product, because I do. But I think I'm spoiled by Kama Sutra's Body Souffle, which is a similar product that I feel functions much better. If I had a choice between the two, the Body Souffle would win every time. But, I will definitely continue to use the Shunga Massage Cream, I just wouldn't say I'd purchase it again.
Follow-up commentary
3 months after original review
I find myself avoiding this jar a lot. I wouldn't say that I no longer like it exactly, I'm just kind of "eh" about it. It's partially because of the slightly tacky feel it leaves on my skin, and it's also because my husband doesn't really care for the scent. I might end up trying a different scent though, because the last jar of the KamaSutra lotion that I got had an off smell to it, and it seems their formulation might have changed. Though the body souffle does leave my skin feeling smoother and less tack than this Shunga lotion, I really was not a fan of the new smell. So, in the end Shunga might get another shot and I might just powder some Shunga Snow on top of the powder, which gets rid of the tacky feel by the way!

Sounds fun!

After reading this and your Kama Sutra Body Souffle review, I think I'd rather have the souffle. I don't like feeling greasy at all.
-
Great review - I was on the fence between Kama Sutra's body souffle and the Shunga cream and I think I'll definitely be going with Kama Sutra. I can't stand things that leave a residue on my skin.
-
Yea, between the two I much prefer the Kama Sutra over the Shunga.
-
I'm not a fan of the initial sticky feeling either
-
Yea, it's a bummer

Thanks for the great review. I enjoy more "candy like" things and thus will likely enjoy these. Am ordering some, but I am confused as to some folks like you saying it tastes good, and others saying it "tastes terrible"??? Are folks sense of taste THAT different?
