Ancient Luxury For Modern Times

To be honest, I love this whole line so far, after reading a few reviews when this line first came out, I was hooked. The bath milk is a nice way to switch up your routine and relax if you usually take showers or to mix it up a little if you usually use bubble bath or bath salts. Whatever your reason is for having interest in bath milk is, I can say that I would recommend it to anyone. Available in 6 scents, you're sure to find one that you like!

Discover Cleopatra's Secret... and no I'm not talking about the jars she would supposedly fill with bees to use as a vibrator...I'm talking about a beauty secret that has been around for centuries, bath milk!
The Dona line from System JO offers a wide range of products with variety of scent options to choose from. This line has something for everyone, whether you only take showers or love relaxing in a hot bath, Dona has something for you! Bath milk is one of many products in System JO's Dona line of aphrodisiac infused bath and body products. Discover Cleopatra's secret with this skin softening milk powder. Available in 6 scents, each is named for the aphrodisiac that it is infused with. The scents available are Camu Camu, Goji Berry, Acai, Pomegranate, Blue Lotus and Mangosteen. I am reviewing the Camu Camu and the Pomegranate, I had the Camu Camu first and fell in love with that scent so I have since ordered several products in Camu Camu. I figured since I have the Pomegranate bath foam and love that scent, I ordered the Pomegranate bath milk too! Bath milk can be used by anyone with access to a bath tub, use this occasionally to relax and unwind in a hot bath after a long day or as part of your everyday routine. Instructions suggest to add a generous amount under running water into the bath tub. Now I know that adding a generous amount sounds like a lot, it also isn't very specific. The bath milk does not come with a scoop, I used a large spoon and 3 heaping spoonfuls of bath milk. I try to use smaller amounts of product because I can always add more rather than using too much and wasting it. 3 Heaping spoonfuls of bath milk is the perfect amount for a bath, that's my personal preference but I do recommend starting with a small amount and finding something to use as a scoop because tipping the jar to dispense the bath milk into your bath may cause you to spill all of it and we wouldn't want that! There's no use crying over spilled bath milk!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

System JO's Dona bath milk has the appearance of dry milk powder in the jar, because that's exactly what it is and it's the first ingredient on the ingredient list. With no added dyes to alter the color, the bath milk is a cream color and makes your bath water milky and foggy in appearance. The milk powder feels extremely light and thin but it does have a bit of a gritty feeling to it, this feeling isn't noticeable once the bath milk is mixed with water. As I mentioned above, I would not recommend pouring this into your bath since you could risk spilling either the entire container or using too much and wasting product. A small scoop would be ideal although this does not come with one so a spoon does the trick. My personal preference is 3 heaping spoonfuls and I got to that point by starting out with 1 spoon, finding out what I liked and settling on 3. I'd suggest doing the same, start out with a small amount and work your way up to your desired amount.

Taste / Aroma

The Dona line from System JO names it's scents after the aphrodisiac that each is infused with. The bath milk is available in: Camu Camu, Goji Berry, Acai, Pomegranate, Blue Lotus and Mangosteen, I'm reviewing the Camu Camu and the Pomegranate. One thing that I've noticed both in reviews of the Dona line and in my own experience is that these scents don't smell the same to everyone. When I first opened it I had several people remark that it smelled tropical, like a light pina colada scent but before that was pointed out to me I swear I could lightly smell peppermint. Even though it originally smelled like candy cane to me, after the tropical scent was pointed out that's what I smelled and it does even smell a bit like a sunscreen lotion, but one that smells really good! The scent is light, it's by no means overpowering like the strong scent that I experienced with my Goji Berry bath salts. Camu Camu is the lightest scent of the Dona products that I have tried so far and I have Camu Camu bath milk, bath salts, pheremone perfume gel, linen spray and body wash. As for taste, these bath products are not designed to be consumed and doing so could probably cause harm. They aren't made to be eaten so they taste pretty bad, I learned that lesson after getting some Mangosteen body scrub in my mouth so please, no matter how good these smell, don't eat the bath milk! The Pomegranate bath milk smells stronger than the Camu Camu but again it is by no means an overpowering scent. Camu Camu seemed to get mixed reviews from everyone that I showed it to, 50% didn't care for the scent and 50% loved it (I love it). Pomegranate seemed to win everyone over, everyone loved it. Pomegranate smells fruity and clean, it's not too light but it's not too strong, it's somewhere in the middle. Although it does smell fruity to me, it has a clean and fresh smell to it as well and considering the scent doesn't seem to linger after use, both scents could be unisex depending on your personal preference. I was worried that I would smell like sour milk after bathing in this and not showering after to rinse it off but I had no problem with that at all.

Performance

Although I'm a major bath and beauty junkie, I've never used bath milk before. I went into this curious and with an open mind but with no expectations whatsoever and I was pleasantly surprised with this product. I first ordered this in Camu Camu and loved it enough that I ordered the Pomegranate as well. I have really dry sensitive skin. I've mentioned it in other reviews but generally, if a product is scented it will really irritate my legs and make them itch like crazy until they tingle. So because of this, I always have to really rinse off anything scented that I use and I have only had the most luck with bath products from Lush. Long story short, if it isn't from Lush and it's something scented that I am soaking in...well that usually spells trouble. I used this bath milk both by itself and on other occasions I followed up by using JO Dona body butter afterwards. I much prefer using this by itself and not following it up with the body butter. When I use the bath milk by itself my skin feels fresh, soft and moisturized but in my experience, using the body butter afterwards made my skin feel like it was heavy and smothering. The major test for this was to see if it would irritate my skin and....drumroll please....NO IRRITATION! My skin is so fussy, I have Keratosis Pilaris and although this product doesn't reduce the appearance of that, it did make the non effected areas feel much softer. I will say that clean up wasn't as simple as just emptying the bathtub and having it all rinse away. When I drained my bath tub, the frothy bath milk "foam" was left on the sides of my bath tub at the level that the water had been at. Clean up was still a breeze though, it rinsed off easily and because it's free of dyes you don't need to worry about staining. It is probably best to rinse the bathtub after use anyways just in case you feel that this product gets slippery, I didn't feel it to be slippery at all but better to be safe than sorry. I also did not bother to rinse off in the shower after soaking in the bath tub and the bath milk left a very pleasant, faint scent. If you were worried about any scent possibly left behind and don't want it to interfere with other products like perfume or if you work in a scent sensitive environment, a quick rinse off should eliminate that issue!

Packaging

Sorry in advance if you're now tilting your head to the side while staring at your screen, after using several photo editing programs my pictures are still sideways, weird! Now that I've issued that little disclaimer...
I've said it in other Dona reviews but I can't say it enough, I love the packaging for the Dona line. The label design for the entire line features a lace pattern, it's not totally unisex in appearance it is more feminine but not overly so. It also doesn't scream sex, the packaging is discreet except for the word "aphrodisiac" appearing on the label. I found the size of this product to be pretty generous for the price, the bath milk is only available in one size, an 8oz recyclable plastic tub. The plastic tub has a lid that is sealed with a tamper proof colored sticker strip that features the scent on it. The lid is twist off and very easy to open although 2 hands are needed to open this, one to hold the jar and one to remove the lid. My Dona products that I have ordered from Eden have always come in plastic bags to reduce the mess that would occur if any of them should leak. The bath milk came in a clear plastic bag which was wrapped in plain brown paper all packaged up in a discreet, plain cardboard box. The directions on the jar aren't very helpful as mentioned earlier and in all honesty, you will find the amount of this product that you like to use through trial and error. It would take up quite a bit of space in a travel bag but if you're travelling with this one I would recommend putting it in a sealed plastic bag. I wouldn't want to chance not having the lid on properly and having luggage covered in bath milk!
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Recyclable
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

System JO's Dona bath milk is free of parabens, preservatives, triclosan and petrochemicals. It is cruelty free and not tested on animals. I have researched the ingredients and provided links and descriptions of each ingredient below. The ingredient descriptions I'm providing in this review have not been provided by or reviewed by either System JO or Eden Fantasys. The label on all Dona products that I own so far also state that they are natural. The ingredients for the Camu Camu bath milk are as follows:
Dry Milk Powder: Milk contains a natural lactic acid that is a form of alpha-hydroxy acid. This type of acid gently dissolves proteins to exfoliate dead skin cells which helps to reveal the fresh and younger looking skin underneath. This lactic acid is extremely mild and it is very soothing on dry skin. Milk with high fat content can benefit all skin but dry skin benefits the most. Milk is known to moisturize and condition skin leaving it looking soft and refreshed. Cleopatra was known for taking expensive and luxurious milk baths in Egypt but many have indulged in milk baths for centuries including French and English aristocracy.
Magnesium Sulfate: Traditionally used as Epsom salt, because of the increase in ionic strength when added to water it prevents some of the temporary skin wrinkling...basically it keeps you from getting extra pruney when you're soaking in the bath tub. It is also known to help soothe, relax you and reduce irritation.
Hydrolyzed Collagen: Produced from collagen found in the bones, skin and connective tissue of animals such as cattle, fish, horses, pigs and rabbits. Retrieved by using heat and acid or alkali solutions, the hides are put in a lime slurry pit for up to 3 months during which time the collagen bonds loosen and the hides are washed to remove lime with the collagen then being extracted in boiling water. Th extracted collagen is evaporator concentrated, desiccated with drum driers and pulverized. The effects that all of this has on your skin? It provides your skin with moisturizing properties and smoothness. It's also the one ingredient I kind of wish I hadn't Googled. The more you know...
Myrciaria Dubia (Camu Camu) Fruit Powder: Camu Camu is a fruit found in the South American rainforest, it grows on small and bushy riverside trees found in Peru and Brazil and those trees take 4-6 years to bear fruit. The fruit itself is a reddish purple with leathery skin. Known to be a rejuvenator, it has more natural vitamin c than any other known botanical on the planet. Camu Camu is energizing, mood lifting and it strengthens the immune system. Super fruit indeed!
Fragrance: The scent of this product, the specifics are a mystery because, like most companies who list this on the ingredient list, that's all it says which is pretty vague.
The ingredients for the Pomegranate bath milk are:
Dry Milk Powder
Magnesium Sulfate
Hydrolyzed Collagen
Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Powder: Pomegranate is a fruit that is sometimes known as the forbidden fruit in the Bible because of its strong sexual stimulation. This fruit is full of antioxidants that keeps skin looking young and revitalized, it also provides you with energy and vibrancy!

Personal comments

You can use this product by itself or if you're like me, start out with one and end up with nearly the whole Dona collection. System JO has created a ritual for the Dona products that consists of 5 steps which are as follows:
1. Relax:"Slow down and set the sensual tone."
2. Cleanse:"Purify your body using luxurious lathers, exfoliators and gels."
3. Nourish:"Make your skin touchable and kissably soft."
4. Illuminate:"Enhance your natural beauty and space."
5. Engage:"Share the fun with sensual play products."

Experience

At first I loved the Camu Camu but I also had Pomegranate bath foam that I adored so I decided to add Pomegranate bath milk to my collection as well. I'm glad that I did! Don't get me wrong, I still love Camu Camu and I have many other Dona products in that scent now but Pomegranate is quickly becoming my favorite. Camu Camu is more subtle than the Pomegranate, the Pomegranate is slightly sweet but it smells so fresh! Scents aside, as a product this is something that I would consider a luxury product. The reason for this is because I wouldn't use it every time I take a bath, sometimes I use bath salts and other times I use bubble bath. If you enjoy relaxing and unwinding in a nice hot bubble bath every once in awhile I would definitely recommend this product. It's a great way to switch things up from bath salts and bubble bath. Your skin will thank you, since the Pomegranate bath milk arrived, after I soak in it I follow up with my Pomegranate body butter and I feel so soft, smooth and refreshed! I plan on getting the linen spray in Pomegranate next, I'm using my Camu Camu linen spray right now but I'm pretty sure it'd be even more relaxing to drift off on fresh and fruity bedsheets as the final part of my Dona ritual!
Follow-up commentary
I'm submitting my follow up review because I can't see myself ever disliking this product. This was my first time trying bath milk, I've been trying a lot of Dona products and this was one of my favorites because I hadn't even heard of bath milk prior to trying this. It's amazing on it's own but even better as part of the Dona relaxation ritual. Anyone with access to a bath tub should try this product, it's a great way to relax and soften your skin while using it!
