The Aterglow candle is brought to us by the Jimmyjane toy company, a company I mostly associated with high end sex toys, that has branched out into the luxury candle market. The Afterglow candle can be used to provide sexy candlelight to set the mood for romance, while also filling the air with an enchanting scent to relax your body and spirit for the fun to come. The candle also serves another function: providing pre-warmed massage oil which, as it melts, can be poured directly onto the body or the hand.

The candle is so functional, it doesn't even have to necessarily be used in a romantic setting. It would be perfect for anyone looking to unwind and relax after a hard day's work, or just for decorating a home or office. A nice scent and candlelight makes any room more inviting and comfortable, especially on those warm summer nights.

When unlit, the candle looks just like any traditional candle. It is maybe slightly softer when you stick your fingernails into it, but it's still very firm; almost as hard as wax. When melted, however, a pool of runny oil-like liquid forms, starting at the center and eventually building up to an amount that can be poured and used like massage oil. The oil is creamy, and gets thicker pretty fast as it starts to cool on your skin. The oil doesn't get sticky, but it does absorb quickly into the skin, requiring constant reapplication if you use it on anything more than a small patch of skin.

We tried the Cucumber Water version of Afterglow. Some candles we've tried in the past had an overpowering scent that made them seem fake and cheap. The description "Cucumber Water" brings a pretty mild scent to mind, so that is what I was expecting when I ordered it. It is also what it turned out being. The scent is very mild indeed, but it will fill a medium-sized room with no problem, and it's rather pleasant. It definitely adds to the mood when combined with the candlelight. I did not try to taste the oil.

This candle performs well, as a candle and as a massage oil dispenser. The candlelight is the same intensity as a normal candle and it seems to last for about the same amount of time. One candle is probably good for 4 or more massage sessions. It seemed to burn about one-fourth of the way down every 45 minutes or so. The oil stays much cooler than candle wax and won't cause pain, even if poured directly onto the skin.

The oil itself works well for massages, if only for a limited time, and leaves the skin feeling soft and moisturized. It doesn't leave any annoying smell or residue, either. It is, overall, a pleasant experience.

It provides adequate lighting for any encounter, and the scent is mild but nicely fills a room.
