Wild Side Sex- That works for me!
Midori's collection of essays on kinky sex from 1997- 2005. Written for different purposes they have a wide variety of audiences and tone. Excellent book.
Published:
Pros
Incredibly wide range of topics- from "why Sm?", wax play, chastity, aftercare and more.
Cons
Electrical play might scare away beginners!
Everyone will bring to any book something of your self and your own interests. My husband bought this book thinking to add some spice to our lives. He got lost in a section about what to do with a submissive and planned a date for the two of us based on a couple of ideas she had mentioned. After tying me up, and having me blindfolded he tried to use a brand new toothbrush on my clit. Recommended for professional idiots only! That was the "to do" piece he pulled out of the book- possible out of context. When I finally got my hands on the book, I loved it.
The book is divided into four sections- Fundamentals of Kink 1, Fundamentals of Kink 2, Fetish Eroticism, Tips & Tricks for Adventurous Sex. It's also dotted with lovely fetish photos from Steven Diet Goedde.
Section 4 is the easiest for someone who is not really in the kink community to understand. It's filled with lots of basic practical advice. Want to know how to get into SM online or become Midori's personal slave? Need to learn about nipple clamps, bullwhips, hoods, and gags for your next private sex party? (Never mind that may only be fantasy because you live with mom!) SPANKING. YES MA'AM! More please.
Sections 1 & 2 Cover a wide variety of material. Section 1 has a lot of the "why's" involved in sexual kink. Why is it a turn on to be treated like an object for women. Why would anyone enjoy pain with sex? The wrong reasons for S/M, etc. Section 2 has three incredible essays about trust and vulnerability which are essential in any type of BDSM sex. Other topics are aftercare, chastity, ropes, how to look cool, etc.
I read this entire book awhile ago, but I flipped through and randomly read bits now that my experience in kink has grown. Everything I've read is incredibly accurate. Yep, go visit that sex club. Make some effort to find out the dress code or wear fetish clothes. Hang out in the local dungeon. Watch. The locals were more than happy to show us around, and talking in the playspace is frowned upon. Want to use that sexy bullwhip? Get a real one, practice it first before you hurt yourself. I watched a practice session with whips at a club.
Everything that I've learned from experience rings true with Midori's writing. That's not true of every book, but she's been there. I know that she still has much more that I can learn.
