The Erotic Version of a Beloved Fairy Tale

If you're tired of the same vanilla erotica and you're ready for something edgy, dark, and want to dip your toe in the BDSM waters, this book will take you there. Anne Rice, a novelist with a penchant for writing books that draw in readers who want that edge, is brilliant in her version on this classic tale, as told to adult readers looking for a devious, dark, delicious bedtime story.

About author

Anne Rice is one of my favorite authors. In the past I've been quite enamored with her vampire books and highly recommend them to anyone who, as of late, is into vampire novels. Anne Rice has a vivid, erotic imagination that is put to excellent use in the Sleeping Beauty series.

Content / Style / Audience

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty is a tale about a sleeping princess who is awakened by the kiss of a prince who then claims her as his love slave. She is trained to be at, not only his, but anyone's beck and call. This book, as well as the other two books in the series, (Beauty's Punishment and Beauty's Release) are not only very explicit in nature, but contain a great degree of BDSM activities. A large part of Beauty's training includes pain, discipline, humiliation, and sexual service. If these activities, even in the deepest corners of your psyche, do not appeal to you, it would be better to skip this series.

Who would like this book? You'll enjoy it if you have secret fantasies of being beaten. If you like or are curious about humiliation, pony play, or discipline. Regardless of age, sexual orientation, or gender you may enjoy Anne Rice's books, particularly the Sleeping Beauty series.

Anne Rice's writing style is fluid, never choppy or disjointed. She uses simple vocabulary which allows a great variety of readers to fully immerse themselves into the world she has created.

What did you like most about it? Are the scenes credible or too far-fetched? Were there scenes that were too much for you? Was there a gender prefered that was used as master or slave, or did it often change?

I think what I liked best about it was that it was so far-fetched, I could immerse myself in the fantasy of it. The scenes were far from credible. Crazy, unprotected sex, scenes involving being strung up in explicit positions for entire days (bathroom breaks?), and things of that nature.

There weren't scenes that were too much for me. However, I have exposed myself to a lot, as far as the BDSM subculture is concerned, so my experience and shock level may be different from the average bear.

What I like about Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty series is that she interchanges the genders of those is a position of authority and those being humiliated, tortured, raped, made to serve. The cover of her novel may show a naked woman but it's just as likely that when reading her book you'll encounter a male slave.

I have read these books several years ago. A classic in erotica. I would recommend that if you enjoy reading erotica be sure to add this to your collection.
