New Levels of Anal Pleasure
Aside from the title, I loved absolutely everything about this book and found that it covered everything one could possibly want to know as well as so much more! For the first time I am considering handballing whereas before I had done traditional fisting only, and I am very keen on trying out some of the heavier plugs.
Published:
Pros
Well written, sexuality-friendly, gender-friendly, information for anyone who likes anal
Cons
Use of the word "women" in title when tips apply to us all, discinclined to like that as a transman
The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women was written by Tristan Taormino. Sex guru Taormino makes it very clear throughout the book that she has a wide range of interests and likes to learn how to do everything as safely, comfortably and enjoyably as possible.
If you’re curious about anal sex this is the book for you. There is a lot of information that anyone could benefit from, whether the most basic aspects of trying anal play for the first time or the more experienced sex acts such as anal fisting or wearing a butt plug for several hours.
Taormino covers all of her bases here and directs her advice at any person, male or female, straight or gay, as well as everyone who doesn't fit into those categories.
The first chapter gives the facts on common myths, offering real advice and information.
The second chapter is all about the anatomy of the anus and has several illustrations of the anus and surrounding area. This chapter explains some of the components that can help make anal sex orgasmic such as the g-spot and prostate.
The third chapter deals with the psychology and emotions of anal play. Taormino encourages good communication to keep things safe and fun for everyone. She reminds us that many people have a had it ingrained as children that the anus is bad and we sometimes fail to overcome that early conditioning. She also explains how fear and perceived power dynamics can cause potential roadblocks for a couple attempting anal play.
The fourth and fifth chapters are about preparation. Chapter four is about showering, shaving and other pre-play hygiene and routines. The fifth chapter is more 'in-depth' so to speak by going into detail about different enema systems. Type of system, technique, and internal rinses are all explained.
Chapter six is on safer sex. Many people know that putting a condom on your penis can help prevent STDs but methods for safe rimming, fingering and protecting or disinfecting sex toys are equally important so they were given here.
In chapter seven it is explained that oil-based and vegetable-oil lubricants are not very effective for anal lubrication and Taormino goes into detail about how they can cause problems. Also stricken from the shopping list are all numbing lubes as they can encourage the user to engage in risky activities and push limits too far. Water-based and silicone lubricants are the best choices for anal and Tristan Taormino lists which specific brands are and are not good for backdoor play.
Chapter eight is all about anal sex toys, from the many varieties available to assessing how safe an object is to put into your anus as well as material types and cleaning instructions. She also tells how to check the fit of harnesses for strapons and how to decide which type of harness will work best for you.
Chapter nine is all about anal masturbation and accustoming yourself to anus play without pressure.
Chapter ten is all about rimming, more properly called analingus, and is primarily a chapter about safety and hygiene as well as technique.
In the eleventh chapter things start to get more intense as this one is all about what will be the main event for some of us: anal penetration. This is an excellent chapter with tips for giver and reciever, easily broken down to be very readable.
Chapter twelve is all about anal pleasure for men. Previous information in the book works for men as well but this has the specifics of the prostate and the normal occurrence of men going limp when being penetrated.
Chapter thirteen specifically relates to BDSM and anal play, outlining some of the basics of BDSM for those who are not familiar with it and suggesting many ways that anal could be planned out to bring something to a scene or create a particular mood. It is explained again that it is never okay for you to do something anally which will hurt yourself or your partner!
In the next chapter, number fourteen, long-term butt plug wear is discussed. It has everything from how long you can keep a plug in, making a butt plug harness, and using a plug to prepare for fun later.
Chapter fifteen discusses anal fisting, something that I had previously never wanted but the process seems like something I may try one day.
Chapter sixteen is a troubleshooting chapter and answers many of the questions that may come up for those who have tried anal sex or other forms of play with their asses but ran into a problem.
In Chapter fifteen anal health is discussed, both sexually transmitted diseases and ailments which are non-communicable.
Chapter sixteen is the closing chapter, basically just reiterating a little bit of everything from the book.

Follow-up commentary
3 months after original review
When I first started experimenting with anal, I had totally hated it. I just didn't see how I could enjoy something that hurt! Later on down the road I had learned to slowly warm myself up so that it didn't bother me any longer.
Reading this book completely changed everything for the better. I went from just being 'okay' with anal sex and curious about it to absolutely loving it! Now I really enjoy anal play a lot, and not just for my partner's sake but because it gives me real pleasure.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone. Heck, if you've ever even thought about trying something in your butt without actually doing it all the way up to being an experienced person at anal sex, Read This Book!
No matter who you are, if you read it through and follow the advice you will have a good time at least trying some back door play.
The only thing I will say different than the book is that my particular rump hates fingers being in it, and that's instantly uncomfortable to me whereas tongues, toys, and penises feel good back there so if you think you might be sensitive don't try with fingers, use something smoother instead.
Another great way to maximize your fun is to get on top and slowly, slowly glide a penis lubed with Astroglide GEL into your anus, and very slowly lower yourself, staying in place for a few moments while your muscles relax and then you control the motion while your partner stays still. After being on top a good 10-20 minutes I can usually even let my partner get on top of me, but even if you can't handle them being in charge doggystyle or missionary, you may like them to thrust from below.
