The whole book (series) is shit
Fifty Shades of the What the Fuck is what I call this series.
I can't comprehend what so many women find so appealing about these books.
I think they are extremely simplistic in the story line, the writing is drivel, and the actual content is.. emotionally damaging.
Women are already drawn to the bad boy; the guy that's going to treat us the worst. I don't understand why. This series personifies the worst of that, and exploits it and encourages women to let men treat them like hell.
I don't find anything about it to be sexy.
I've been reading erotica for well over a decade and been writing it since 2005. I think just about everything I have read before this is way more sexier than this and definitely more well written. I don't understand the mass appeal.
What does this say about society, or women in general that are all over this book? Is it because they've been so sheltered they didn't know about bondage, BDSM, fun little sex toys and gadgets? Wow, check out the internet, you'll find amazing things and much healthier portrayals of using them, too.
For one, this series does not depict the BDSM scene correctly and it just rips apart everything I fight for regarding women not letting men treat them like crap.
The dialogue is sad and simple and repetitive. The characters are flat, and that fact that this all started as Twilight fan fiction.. wow. I don't know. Something about Twilight..
I think EL James and Stephenie Meyer must have sold their soul to the devil to both end up with a best selling series and movie deals based on.. well, not the best writing out there.
I just don't understand how things like this explode and become so popular. What is the draw, the attraction? What about this series is so sexy and mind blowing that women act like it's so damn enlightening? I just don't get it.

Experience
Perhaps my experience is biased, having dealt with an abusive, controlling man in my life for too long. I finally got away. This flat out makes me want nothing to do with anything regarding abusive men. I don't find pseudo abuse sexy. BDSM of any kind doesn't get me hot or even curious and I wish other women would wake up and stop drinking the kool-aid that makes them think it's okay for guys to treat them like shit.

Oh my gosh, I completely agree. Many people I have spoken to don't understand why I would consider the relationship abusive or pseudo abuse.
