Confused & Left Tied In Knots

Beginners will enjoy Mindori's first two sections of the book, which include safety, rope care/maintenance and other important aspects that partners will enjoy reading. Be warned, however, positions in the book are not meant for the faint-of-heart! My partner and I are fairly inflexible and had difficulty bending our bodies into the pictured positions. Overall, this book is highly informative - not to mention that the pictures are gorgeous!

The bondage knotwork covered in the book - in my partner and my opinions - are for intermediate to advanced users - however - the beginning two sections of the book are highly useful to beginners.

Section I:Introduction

Beauty of Japanese Rope Bondage, Elements of Aesthetic Rope, The Seduction &
Step by Step: Analysis of a Scene (For a Top/For a Bottom)

and

Section II:Getting Started: Rope Selection and Safety

Selecting Your Rope, Sources for Rope, Texture and Material, Ends of Rope, Size, Rope Care & Maintenance, Other Tools & Equipment, Safety Concerns and The Knots & Ties

My partner and I learned so much from these two sections of the book. These two sections are a MUST READ for any beginners - or even intermediate to advanced players - in rope bondage. They cover bondage safety, different types of rope, how to set up a scene, different reasons for bondage, and much more.

Although my partner and I had tried some simple knots before we got the book, we hadn't considered basic safety (such as checking the rope before and after each use to ensure that there were no objects embedded in it). We also learned about other safety such as a belt cutter, EMT scissors, and basic first aid.

Section III: The Techniques

There are a total of 11 different bondage ties in the book.

They are as follows:
(1) Simple breast bondage
(2) Simple open leg crab
(3) Simple open leg crab starting with a waist rope
(4) Arm and chest bondage
(5) The knotted tortoise shell body harness
(6) The unknotted tortoise shell body harness
(7) Cross-legged bondage
(8) The simple bamboo rod
(9) Simple crotch harness
(10) Partial suspension
(11) Hog tie

My partner and I agreed that the writing style of the book is easy to understand. There are Japanese terms used within the text. These terms are defined and give the book a more 'authentic' feeling than other instructional bondage books I have seen.

Each tie starts out with a beautiful photograph of the finished knotwork. There is background on the tie, its traditional uses in society, any warnings/cautions about the tie and finally the size of rope to use. On the following pages, there are diagrams - with written instructions - that allow the reader to tie their partner into the position pictured at the beginning of the chapter.

I think that the book is geared towards the kink community, people interested in erotic photography, Japanese rope bondage and finally people that are interested in exploring their sexuality. My partner and I picked this book up because we are (1) beginners to Japanese rope bondage and (2) the photography in the book looked beautiful.

Design

We loved the layout of the book! The layout goes from safety of bondage to the actual ties to brief closing thoughts on bondage and bondage aftercare. The book reads like an informative novel - except this one happens to be about Japanese rope bondage.

The book is well-constructed. The paper is heavyweight and binding is high quality. The paper is glossy and thus, the photographs and colors printed on the pages truly pop out of the out at the reader. My partner and I have many bondage books, but none have the kinds of photographs this book does. This book is quite possibly worth it for the photographs and the first two sections alone.

This book will be sitting on our coffee table. It's a great conversational piece and is simply too pretty not to display!

Personal comments

Our major complaint with the book wasn't with the book - it was with the positions the author chose to feature. We had a great deal of difficulty getting into the positions due to our lack of flexibility. This made the positions in the book seem impossible and daunting.

I wouldn't recommend this book to people that aren't flexible and able to hold difficult positions for long periods of time - however - I would recommend the first two sections of this book for beginners of rope bondage.
