Better Naked in 2D

The 3-D Nudes book is a book full of decent nude (yet not erotic) photography of females. The book is organized in a bit of an annoying manner which makes the 3-D aspect more of a hinderence than a feature.

extremely useful review
The Hollywood Nudes in 3-D is a book of nude photography done by Harold Lloyd. The unique selling point for this book is that some of the pictures are actually done in 3-D, so the pictures will feel more realistic. The book is hardcover on the front with full-color pages on the inside. The book has 154 pages split into nineteen different themed chapters.

The book does come with a pair of 3-D glasses. They stay tucked in a pocket at the front of the book, and they are easy to retrieve. I had no problem wearing the glasses, and they stayed nicely on the my face. You just flip through the book with the 3-D glasses on to observe the 3-D pages. The 3-D pages have a small little icon in the corner that lets you know they are 3-D. I'd say that about 2/5 of the book is done in 3-D while the other 3/5 is in 2-D pictures.

This is one of the biggest problems with the book - the organizational issue. The 2-D and 3-D pictures are not separated into separate sections. This means that, you either wear your 3-D glasses and look at the 2-D pictures which makes those pictures blurry and discolored, take off your 3-D glasses which makes the 3-D pictures look like crap, OR you take your glasses on and off throughout the entire book depending on the pictures.

I also was a bit disappointed by the photography coloring. I'm not sure if this was intentionally done to promote the 3-D aspect, but almost all of the pictures have a very obvious orange/red tint to them. Most of the pictures look like they were taken in the 90s (due to resolution size), and some of the "sets" are awkward. For example, there's a nude woman mime being chased by a fully clothed "demon", there's a woman licking an ice cream cone, a woman laying on a tiger rug's head, a woman wearing a buffalo head (gross), a woman near a real tiger bathed in fake blood. None of it really is all that sexy to me.

The entire book is female models. Despite the title which is gender neutral, the entire book is nude females. The photography isn't erotic in the slightest - they're just nude. Almost every picture has bare breasts, and a good majority have bare butts as well - no close-ups of genitalia. The women are thin - but not "supermodel" thin and all have natural breasts. Most of the pictures are full-page pictures, but a couple, probably due to low resolution, are slightly smaller than full page. Some of the famous females included in this collection include Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, and Dixie Evans.

The book does include some text. This is a double-ended sword. The text is seriously headache inducing if you attempt to read it with the 3-D glasses on which makes it oddly placed in a 3-D book. There's an introduction to the book, an introduction to every chapter, and sometimes there is an introduction to the model when the book features a famous woman.

The book has nine different themed chapters: "Hollywood or Bust", "Greenacres is the Place to Be", "Wish You Were Here", "Museum Pieces", "The Kitsche is Back", "Naked Girls in Peril", "Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!", "Jiggle All the Way", and "On the Rocks, With a Twist".

So overall? I'm just not impressed. It's not a horrible collection, but it's not an amazing one either. I think the organizational issues along with the 90s tinted photography just isn't up my alley. I feel like this book would have benefited greatly if the photographer would have just left the pictures in 2-D. I feel like the 3-D, while an interesting marketing pull, just didn't do some of the pictures justice.
Follow-up commentary
We honestly haven't noticed this book too much since I initially reviewed it. The friends that we've shown it to have mentioned that they weren't fond of the 3D aspect of it either, but if you really are interested in 3D nudity, the book could still be your cup of tea.

I think this book is aimed at people who enjoy the vintage, intentionally kitchy aesthetic, rather than people who want to be aroused by the photos. That is too bad about the organizational issues though. I think that the blurry-ness would give me a headache.

I don't know... I think vintage erotica should be a pro, but that's just me.

I know don't mind vintage erotica, but the ones in this book just bothered me. There were pictures of women covered in "blood" while laying next to a tiger and everything else. It just felt really awkward to me, and I wasn't fond of it.
