I was very happy to get my newest book, Vaginas: An Owner's Manual|Vaginas: An Owner's Manual. I am always interested in learning more about my body and this book seemed like it would do the trick.

I was instantly very impressed with the way this book was set up. It is in a very easy to read format and has these little boxes throughout that tell odd little facts and stories from the writer, who is a gynecologist. That is another reason that I was so pleased with this book; being written by a gynecologist, I trust that the information is correct and has been learned through experience…not just hearsay. The author's daughter also puts her two cents into the book which gives it a nice mother/daughter real life feel.

There are no questions left unanswered with Vaginas. The book goes through the general anatomy of the vagina, the detailed parts of it including normal periods, STDs, contraception, pregnancy, abortion and so much more. There are detailed descriptions of the various common and uncommon diseases and their treatments. The design of this book is helpful to any woman that has ever been curious about her body. I also shared a lot of the random interesting facts that I read with my husband, who usually does not even show a concern to woman's health.

The author and her daughter give wonderful stories insight on the regular woman's point of view. They both have experienced and dealt with the concerns that most women are curious about. I especially like that this book gives information on an information-only basis. There are no preachy lectures or product pushing anywhere in the book. The most sensitive topics are discussed in an almost friend-like way. The information is given to the reader and the author tells what she herself has or would do, but clearly states that it is each woman's prerogative.

Overall this is a 5 star book to me. Being that I have shared this book with my husband, it ranks a lot higher in stars to me. If you are a woman (or a man) that has ever had any kind of question about the female anatomy, this is the book for you. I also would recommend this book to moms who would like to talk to their daughters about becoming a woman.

Did the author talk at all about the misuse of the term 'vagina' to refer to vulva? The title kind of leads me to believe she herself might have made this error, though I hope not...

No, the vulva was mainly spoken of in terms of the general anatomy. The author mainly went into whole chapters about the internal aspects of the vagina.
