Play longer for...a minute or two.

Is your man cumming too soon for your tastes? Is he just too sensitive to stimulation, and you think a numbing agent like Benzocaine slicked on his dick will help? Well...go buy a cock ring instead.

Use

Durex Play Longer is a Benzocaine-based desensitizing gel that when applied to the penis, desensitizes it, thus prolonging an erection and helping those with premature ejaculation issues. I know! Wicked cool idea, in theory. In reality, though, it's basically Novacaine for your cock with poor results.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Play Longer's ingredients are water, Benzocaine (7.5%), carbomer, and polyethylene glycol. These ingredients are also common for other topical anesthetics like Orajel, but please, never use these products for anything other than the use they are intended for. In other words, don't use Orajel in your butt or on your penis expecting it to act as a desensitizing agent.

Play Longer is water-based and compatible with latex condoms, though no information about compatibility with other condoms was mentioned.

Squeezing the gel out of its tube reminds me of old paint or toothpaste. It's thick like honey, but nowhere near as sweet or fun. It's immediately sticky and thus kind of a pain to apply to an erect penis. A word of caution: if you try this gel out, use only a SMALL amount first. The more you apply, the greasier and stickier and ickier it gets. Moderation, baby.

Taste / Aroma

I read a couple reviews on EF about this product helping with gag reflexes. Apparently after the gel is massaged into the penis, deep throating said penis becomes easier and less gag-worthy. So I rubbed a drop (glop?) on my finger and licked my finger. As the product promises, a numbing effect was produced, but in no way could I use this gel on my partner while performing oral. Because you know what it tastes like? Shit. DON'T GET IT IN YOUR MOUTH. DON'T! Try not to breathe around it either because it smells like cheap industrial strength glue.

Performance

When I applied the gel to my partner's cock he initially felt nothing. Maybe a minute and a half later her reported feeling a slight warm feeling, then prickles, and then partial numbness. He further tested how numb it became by smacking my ass with his penis. This was fun, but sex was on the schedule. We decided to see if the gel would prolong his erection while we had anal sex, when usually he comes very quickly.

I readied myself and applied lube to his penis, on top of the desensitizing gel. We waited a minute to see if having the lube WITH the gel affected the gel's numbing effects. It did. He reported his cock felt normal as ever, no prickly or numb feeling at all. So, I added more gel to the head of his penis and we went at it.

When he entered me, he transferred the desensitizing gel to my anus so it was a bit like using an anal relaxing spray or gel (like Anal Eeze). This was quite pleasurable on my end, but again, it didn't last long at all. We decided "to hell with it" and went about our business. He came in the same amount of time that he normally does for anal, which is about half an hour.

To remove the gel, use a warm washcloth and just wipe it off. It's easy enough to remove, so there's something good about it.

Packaging

Durex Play Longer comes in a clear plastic box with blue details and wording, not green as the EF product page shows (though mine may be older or newer than the featured package). It doesn't add a lot of useful information other than promising a wild night and all that hoopla. It's the typical drugstore packaging for a drugstore product, which is where I purchased this gel.

Experience

This was my first foray into trying a desensitizing agent to prolong a sack session. Usually my guy lasts too long and I'm not worried about prolonging his experience. But on a whim, we tried it out. It seems to work a little better if you don't use lube, but I'm thinking the lube didn't affect its effects too badly. If you're really into the numbing agents and are more experienced with these sorts of products, you may not feel any difference at all with this. If you're new to this area of products and want a desensitizing gel or cream, keep looking, or invest in an erection-boosting cock ring.

Thank you for the review. I'm wondering if the partners of women who have trouble with orgasm should likewise stay away from this nasty stuff.

Got some Lanacaine on my Yoni, during a yeast infection once, and couldn't come for 3 days. UG. Some of us are TOO sensitive to Benzocaine.

Great review and good concept for a product. Just the same, it sounds like this stuff is a real "downer" - if it deadens the sensations so much, it would seem to be useless (what good is it if you can last longer but can't feel anything)? Then, if it also deadens the woman's sensations too, then entirely defeats the purpose of having a good time.
