The Maximus Rider is made of TPR (thermoplastic rubber), a latex-free, phthalate-free polymer blend which is soft and stretchy. It’s probably the best material available for this type of toy, as silicone would probably be too stiff and inflexible to be comfortable in this application. All of the other softer materials (jelly, cyberskin, etc.) have issues which make them less desirable.

TPR is not as porous as some materials, but it’s not non-porous and this toy also has deep ribs, so there’s no shortage of places for bacteria to hide. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend sharing this toy between partners who aren’t fluid-bonded, since TPR isn’t easily sterilized like silicone.

TPR can be used with either water-based or silicone-based lubes, which is nice. You will need copious amounts of lube on the outside of this toy. Some guys might want to use a bit of lube on the inside, in order to get it to slide on, but I found it worked best not to use lube on the inside, as otherwise it tends to slip off my penis. It’s very stretchy, so just stretch it very wide and pull it over your cock.

The shaft of this toy has a very pronounced ribbed texture, which some women will love. My girlfriend doesn’t like such prominent texture, so this isn’t her type of toy. In addition, the clitoral stimulator is nubbed.

The sleeve is about 4 inches long and it really needs to fit below the head of your penis in order to stay on well, so keep that in mind when deciding whether to get this. If your penis is only around 5 inches, like mine, then you may have a bit of trouble. I have to be very careful to make sure it’s entirely on my shaft and not covering any part of the head of my penis or else it will tend to slide off. It needs to be completely below the coronal ridge to stay on well. Anyone with an average or longer penis should have no problem.

It fits quite snugly, and anyone who does have some significant natural girth will find it a tight fit. But most people who are interested in this product probably aren’t too girthy to begin with, so I imagine most potential users won’t have too much of a problem with tightness.

I think the positioning of the clitoral stimulator is good, but obviously everyone’s body is different so whether or not it hits your partner’s clitoris will depend on her anatomy.

The clitoral vibrator has a cool feature where it will turn on automatically whenever anything presses against it (such as your partner’s body). If you’d prefer it to vibrate constantly there’s a switch to enable that. The automatic mode on the vibrator works surprisingly well, but I found the actual vibrations disappointing. They’re very buzzy (high pitched) and aren’t transmitted well through the TPR. It is pretty quiet, which is a plus.

The vibrator uses two watch batteries. It comes with an extra pair in addition to the two which are preinstalled, so you’re good to go for a while.

TPR can be cleaned with warm water and soap, or with a toy cleaner. You may really need to work at it to get all the spaces between the ribs clean. There’s no way to sterilize TPR, unfortunately.

Be sure to take the vibrator out of the sleeve before washing. Otherwise, you might get water into the vibrator. Mine got the tiniest bit of moisture into it and the batteries corroded. (Either that or the batteries that came preinstalled were already partially corroded; I’m not sure.) I swapped in the spare set of batteries and wiped away the brown gunk which had accumulated and it still worked, but be careful.

There’s nothing particularly offensive about the packaging but it’s very clear that it contains a sex toy and there's a fair amount of text describing its uses. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly informative in terms of how to use or care for it, but it’s not completely inadequate.

It’s slightly long for me, so it’s a bit tough to make it all fit below the head of my penis. This causes it to ride up and slide off. Given the problems I have had with the vibrating portion, I might consider cutting that part off, along with a few millimeters of the shaft portion to make it fit better. But my girlfriend isn’t big on ribbed toys, so I’m not sure I will bother.

I find that it does provide some support in maintaining an erection, but your experience may vary. If stretchy cock rings worn around the shaft only work well for you, then this will likely work just as well. If you need a rigid ring around the shaft and balls, then this might not work in that capacity, but it will still add plenty of girth and texture!
