Trojan; Not Just for Condoms Anymore
Trojan's new vibrator, the Midnight Collection 5.3 is a hybrid vibrator/pocket rocket. It has three different silicone attachments, for different sensations, and variable speeds and vibrational patterns. It comes beautifully packaged with instructions, a battery and a satin storage bag.
The Midnight Purple color will appeal to many and the versatility of this medium strength toy will appeal to those just starting out toys or those adding to a collection.

Trojan has come out with a new sex toy. Not being frequent condom users, but having tried older versions of Trojan’s toys we decided to give this rather pricey one a try.
The toy is listed as a “traditional vibrator” but at only about 5.5 inches in length and only about 3.5 inches in circumference on the business end, it is more like a rather non-traditional pocket rocket.
The toy has three interchangeable heads for the tip of the toy. The toy requires one of the attachments to be in place in order to use the toy, unlike some Pocket Rockets. Two of the heads, the clitoral scoop
and the textured ball are made from medical grade silicone;
the hard, slightly pointed head seems to be made of a harder plastic.
Each head screws onto the body of the toy for different sensations. No more attachments popping off at inopportune moments.
The body of the toy is about 3.5 inches in circumference at the tip and then gently widens out towards the handle and control end at about 7 inches in circumference. The widest part of the toy is for holding onto and for the controls, but cannot be used for penetration at this point.
The controls consist of two flush buttons on the end of the handle. One starts by pushing the + button, and then goes through a series of strengths of vibration and several simple patterns.
Using the - button will either back up the cue of vibrations, backwards in the opposite order as they first appeared, or it can be held down for several seconds to turn off the toy without having to go through all the options. The buttons are easy to push and the placement makes it difficult to change options without intending to. The large base which holds the controls also feels quite comfortable in the hand and the size will fit nicely in most hands. I felt the base’s controls were very intuitive to use.
The vibrator goes through five increasingly strong solid vibrations, then three patterns; the first seems to be a random dots and dashes, or it could be a mild “roller coaster” setting, the next is hard short pulses and the third is four short pulses with a longer pulse and then back again.
The vibrator is a bit louder than I am comfortable with. The sound is similar to the highest setting of a phone on vibrate…amplified. The tone seems to increase musically as the strength increases. The loudest setting can just barely be heard through a closed wood door. However, I have Vulcan Hearing, so perhaps most people wouldn’t be bothered by it. As My Man and I live with children, I tend to not use toys that make noise too often. This one is just on the edge of my tolerance. Of course, using it under covers (I added two pillows to dull the sound even more) will make the sound of the vibrator less noticeable. Also, a TV or musical device could also drown out the sound in most environments.
It can be used alone, or during sexual play with a partner.
I found the clitoral scoop the most fun of the attachments. It can be used to cradle the clitoris, using the flat side of the scoop in a waving motion is somewhat similar to light cunnilingus. Twirling the scoop, and using it in a "licking" motion, either with natural or bottled lubricant as an aid, helps complete the effect. The textured ball was a fun attachment, and the vibrations seemed to travel the strongest through the hard plastic pointed tip. The toy also comes with an adorable satin drawstring bag , which is always appreciated. Especially along with toys that come with attachments which could be lost. But, unlike a regular Pocket Rocket, the toy cannot be used without at least one of the heads screwed onto the tip. The bag seems to shed bits of satin,(as you may see in some of my pictures) but it’s brand new and will probably stop as the bag is used more.
Trojan makes sure you are safe by telling you to wash all parts of the toy before use and to wash after every use. The toy is said to be waterproof and it is at least splash proof, in several washes no water has gotten into the battery case or under the tip which was in place. However, the tips should probably be individually removed to be cleaned. I cleaned mine with regular hand soap (I make foaming hand soap by mixing Bath & Body Works Bath Gel, one part with about 10 parts water in a foaming dispenser.) Dry the toy well after washing.

Experience
continued
I did find the silicone parts tend to attract a large amount of lint and fuzz, so a lint free drying towel would be nice to use. I also found the one time I used Toy Wash after use, as I was going to wash the toy in the morning, that the wash had left while powdery film on the tip of the toy. I have never seen this toy wash do this before, and I think it may be in part due to the silicone used and also due to the very dark color.
The strength of the vibration is moderate to light, depending on the setting. I, again, pitted it against my Ultimate Massager Pocket Rocket. and it was somewhere between 50% to 75% as strong as the Ultimate Massager, with the Trojan at its highest setting.
Sadly, the Trojan Vibrator was not strong enough to bring me to climax. But, I am notoriously difficult to bring to orgasm and usually need very deep, thrumming, low register power, usually found in A/C toys to get where I need to be to orgasm. I think someone with an average or sensitive orgasmic response could probably be brought to orgasm with this toy in most cases.
The toy is really too short and a bit too narrow to be used for much more than very shallow vaginal penetration, although might be quite nice for those who are a bit shy about penetrative toys. The Midnight Collection 5.3 is mostly a toy for clitoral and labial use, and some may want to try it on the nipples, the glans and frenulum of the penis or on the testes. The toy is not to be used for anal play, as it is not only short, but even with the widening at the base, the attachments could conceivably come loose and become lodged in the anus. Trojan makes it quite in the clear and quite precise enclosed directions that this is not an anal toy.
The toy comes boxed in a pretty dark purple cardboard and clear plastic container, with the toy and the attachments on display and the small storage bag and the directions behind the presentation board. The toy takes one AA battery and Trojan kindly encloses a nice Duracell AA battery so you can get started right away. The box could be used for storage, but the drawstring bag is so nice, I can’t see why anyone would not use the bag for storage. The box would make a nice presentation for a gift.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
I have vacillated between choosing "I still like it" and "I don't like it anymore" for the follow up rating of this toy.
I like shape of base, it fits into the hand well. I really like the attachments, especially the clit scoop.
But, the Trojan clit vibe is loud and just not strong enough for me.
That being said, I think a good majority of women could most likely orgasm from this toy, if they orgasm fairly easily.
I like toys that have different attachments, because it's fun to play with them. I also like this toy because it comes with a storage bag. However, the price is a little outrageous. I'd pay this $79.99 for a middle/top line silicone vibrator from, say Fun Factory or LELO, or a dildo from Tantus or maybe a true stainless steel toy. But, even though the Midnight Collection 5.3 is a fairly good product and well made, it just isn't able to bring my Clit O Steel over the edge.
I wish I could use the clit scoop on an other toy. That would be perfect.
I still think many women will enjoy this product.... perhaps when it is on sale. And I still think that if it is being sold in regular retail outlets, like Target, CVS or KMart, it may introduce women to a new world of sexual fun with sex toys.
It has its purpose. I just wish it worked better for my body.

Thanks for the review! A little too pricey and weak for my tastes, though.
