Shine AND Substance

Acting on “cheap and pretty” attractions rarely goes well. I get something (or someone) I don’t really want and a “What was I thinking?” feeling. This time, I ended up with a Perfect Touch Satisfy-Her. While it’s lovely outside, I wasn’t expecting much beneath the surface due to the low price. But, aside from a couple of issues, this vibe delivers as promised. With five functions, good power, great waterproofing, and a lot of versatility, it’s surprisingly satisfying under that shiny exterior.

Use

The Satisfy-Her doesn’t offer a thousand functions, blinking lights, and the ability to make you come from across the room, but it does offer a bit more than you might expect. I figured it would end up as a case of form over function, offering little more than a flashy exterior; I was pleasantly surprised by its performance. It’s actually quite a versatile little vibe. It’s travel friendly and performs well in water. The five functions are distinct and fairly powerful for a vibe of this size.

It’s also a decent choice as a starter vibe. It struck me as especially appropriate for introducing toys to a couples bedroom in a non-intimidating way since it looks like abstract art rather than a giant penis. It would be excellent in situations where the man is a little concerned about “competing” with a vibrator. (I can’t recommend it for newbies with 100% enthusiasm as the hard plastic requires a bit of a careful touch and some experimentation to get comfortable. This, combined with volume on the louder side and drag on the skin, could be a potential turn-off for those looking for simple “plug-and-play”).

The Satisfy-Her vibe is mostly geared toward clitoral stimulation, and the design reflects that with a dip or “spoon” toward the top of the vibe. I didn’t find this area terribly effective: It may work better for those whose clits protrude more than mine. However, it’s not difficult to find a satisfying spot somewhere on the back or side of the vibe. It has a nice shape for experimenting, since it’s equally smooth all over and offers variable types of curves to play with. The Satisfy-Her also has potential as a teaser for nipples and elsewhere, though lube or some good sweatiness is advisable due to drag. The vibe does have a short insertable length of four to five inches, but it’s not particularly good for thrusting. (Gentle in-and-out movement in time with the pulse function is pretty interesting, though). I suggest sticking mostly with rocking and rotating motions. Slow, shallow thrusting did hit my G-spot well, but the hardness of the vibe became uncomfortable too quickly for orgasm or much enjoyment.

This isn't one of my favorite vibes, but if I was traveling and could only take one, this might very well end up being my choice. It’s got all the basics and a couple of extras covered in a fairly small, attractive package. The only thing the vibe is really unsuitable for is anal insertion since it doesn’t have a flanged bottom.

Material / Texture

The Satisfy-Her is made of hard odorless plastic with a smooth metallic finish. Though it’s pretty, I’ll probably avoid this material in the future. It’s just not as user friendly as the more flexible materials, and is one of the few things that make the vibe seem a little cheap. Besides potential discomfort due to pressing too hard in the wrong spot, the Satisfy-Her drags badly on the skin. At least a little lube will probably be needed no matter where on the body you’re using the toy.

There’s a thin seam between the two halves of the vibrator body which worried me in terms of roughness, cleanliness, and water leakage, but so far it hasn’t presented any problems. I haven’t experienced any roughness or pinching, and debris in the seam is easily cleaned out.

Design / Shape / Size

The sophisticated, curvy shape of the Satisfy-Her is what first caught my eye about it as it’s the type of design you’re more likely to see in expensive toys. The hard plastic material and seam around the body of the vibe kind of ruin the pricey impression when you take a closer look, but it’s still a visually appealing vibe. It’s on the smaller side at about 7” total length and 4 1/2” circumference at its widest. It would be a little much in a purse, but would be quite suitable for travel otherwise. The subtle look is a plus there, too. You may not be able to convince anyone it’s a newfangled curling iron, but you could probably call it a “massager” without getting too many smirks from TSA. (One of the other reviewers here told me she uses it on her neck, so the massager thing really is true for a change).

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Satisfy-Her has five quite distinct speeds/functions, accessed by cycling through them with a push button on the side of the vibe. I found my thumb naturally settling on the button due to the shape of the vibe, and had to get in the habit of moving it to the side to prevent accidental pressing, but it’s not super touchy.

The vibes first two functions are basic constant vibrations, with low and high speeds. The third is a short-short-long pattern, which reminds me of Morse code and gives me the giggles: It does feel good, though. The fourth function consists of short, fast pulsations. And, finally, the last is an alternating low-high pattern. (The low part of that last one feels like a weak rumble to me and whines a bit when shifting speed, so I think it may not be working quite right).

The vibe is surprisingly powerful for one running on two AAA batteries. On the high setting it will start making my hand tingly within seconds. So, I was a bit nervous when it came time for the first official testing session. I sort of held my breath and carefully approached my clit with the vibe on low. And my clit said “Uhh… That’s it?” So I moved the speed up to high and my clit said “Boring.” This was puzzling since the vibe had plenty of power and I’m fairly sensitive. After some prodding and wiggling, I finally figured out that this vibe needs a firmer touch than those made of softer materials. That doesn’t make much sense to me, but that’s how it seems to work. So, you may need to spend a few minutes figuring out what type of pressure works best for you.

The only big problem with the Satisfy-Her – and it could be a deal-breaker depending on your circumstances: It’s loud and buzzy. Think electric hair clippers: Not quite that bad, but close. The problem isn’t straight volume: My first impression was that the vibe was simply loud, but it’s actually the buzz and unpleasant pitch that make it seem so penetrating. The vibe can really only be heard through a door or from inside a drawer if you’re within five feet or so. Once you move further away it’s no problem. So, if you share a room or otherwise need to keep the noise way down, skip this vibe. If volume isn’t an issue, I suggest an MP3 player and headphones. I’m not normally distracted by a little buzz, but with this vibe I just could not proceed until I got some music going.

(This amount of volume seemed high for a vibe that runs on two AAAs, so I checked reviews and talked to a couple of other reviewers. I saw “loud” mentioned once or twice, but no Walls-of-Jericho references, so my unit may just have some defect that makes it run especially loudly).

As far as being waterproof, the seam around the body of the vibe was no problem. After some experimenting in the sink, I had no fear about tossing it in the tub. It has the most tightly sealed battery case of any vibe I own and preformed perfectly in the water.

Care and Maintenance

Since it’s hard plastic, the Satisfy-Her is fairly sturdy and doesn’t need any special care. Just a wash with antibacterial soap and water should do fine. It might be wise to run a toothpick or something similar along the seam of the vibe periodically to make sure it hasn’t built up any crud, but as long as you wash the vibe after use, even the seam stays pretty clean. This vibe can get small surface scratches like any hard plastic item, but unless you take metal tools to it, the finish shouldn’t flake. My Satisfy-Her has a small flaw in the coating at the bottom of the seam where the blue color is missing. I feared this was a weak point in the surface, but I scratched quite hard at it with my fingernail with no damage. As long as you don’t drop the vibe on a hard surface, it should hold up well under normal use.

Storage should also be simple as the vibe isn't made of any sort of high maintenance material. It just needs something to prevent scratching and keep dust off it. If you don’t want to keep it in the original package, something as basic as a plastic bag would probably be fine.

Packaging

The Satisfy-Her comes in a clamshell package with a paper insert giving a couple blurbs about the product and features. It’s nothing special, but is adequate for storage. The paper insert is surprisingly classy, especially for a less expensive vibe. There are no scantily clad women here, just soft colors and an abstract background. It does offer “orgasmic thrills” and advises the use of “personal lubricant for added pleasure,” so this isn’t a package that’s pretending to be something other than what it is. It’s clearly a sex toy, but presented in a neutral way, which is a welcome change from some of the more salacious packaging out there.

Follow-up commentary
I got the Satisfy Her out recently to see if I might want to take it with me on a trip, since one of the first things I noticed while writing my original review was its travel-friendly size and shape. Unfortunately, playing with it a bit reminded me of why it's been buried in the back of the cupboard. I really want to like this vibe. It's aesthetically appealing, inexpensive, fairly compact, has several vibration settings, and has excellent waterproofing. If a few things were different it could be a great little-bit-of-everything vibe, but the problem areas are ones I just can't get past.

Though I do like firm vibrators, the hard plastic surface of the Satisfy Her is just not enjoyable for me. It has a great deal of "drag" on the skin and really needs lube for comfortable use. The plastic also doesn't transmit vibrations as well as more flexible materials. It requires firm pressure and quite a bit of adjustment of position to get the vibes in the right spot. Also, the Satisfy Her is a very buzzy and somewhat loud toy. Even when being overheard is not a concern, the high-pitched buzz is just too distracting for me to relax and enjoy myself.

I love the idea of the Satisfy Her, but the reality just doesn't quite measure up.
