Seductively Sexy Sailor
Having never had any prior experience with the Joy Division toys I honestly didn't know what to expect with this, but they didn't let me down. It is a beautiful toy, very well designed with surprisingly powerful vibrations. The dial base makes it very easy to use and the double A batteries it is powered by are widely available.

Pros
Great design, Powerful for a battery toy, Ease of use
Cons
Limited range of vibration, Weak vibrations at tip
-Packaging-
Having had no previous experience with Joy Division toys I really didn’t know what to expect from The Sailor. It arrives in a fairly simple box. It is silver coloured cardboard on three sides with the front open so you can see the toy straight away. There is some information about the toy on the side and on the back it features the same information in German, Spanish, Italian, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish. Amongst the features mentioned it says that it is made from a safe material, is powerful but quiet and has a 5 year material guarantee.
Once you open the box the toy itself is held in place by a plastic insert which opens up. The packaging overall was alright, the silver colour was a little bit tacky but it was free from any sort of pornographic imagery or sleazy phrases.
-Material/Specifications-
My first impression of the sailor once we had it out of the packaging was that it was almost tongue like. It also kind of reminded me of the belly of a dragon, sort of segmented. It looked really nice, like a fantasy animal type of toy. It is advertised as pink which it kind of is but both my partner and I see it as more of a red toy with just pink hues in it. It has a smooth enough finish to it when compared to some matte finished silicone products. It is segmented on the top and bottom with smooth sides and has a very slight curve into a slimmer tip.
The body of the shaft is made from silicone which is a great material for insertable toys. It is non-porous (doesn’t take in bacteria during use) as well as being latex and phthalate free. The base is made from plastic. There is a motor that runs up to around half the length of the shaft allowing the toy to flex and bend. It is powered by 2 double A batteries which are widely available. There is a rubber washer to keep the battery compartment from taking in water but please not that the toy is splash proof and not submergeable or waterproof, so don’t take it into the bath. The dimensions of the toy are as follows.
Overall Length = 9 Inches
Insertable Length = 7 Inches
Circumference (widest) = 5 ½ Inches
Circumference (slimmest) = 4 Inches
-Use-
As I mentioned above the toy has a smooth finish but there is definitely some drag so unless you are naturally very well lubricated then I recommend water based lube. (Silicone based lubricants can damage a silicone finish). As described by my partner the tongue like shape and design of the toy make it very pleasant for clitoral stimulation prior to insertion. When warmed up and well lubed it can even mimic the sensation of a tongue on the clitoris. The only problem with external use is that the majority of the toys power is set further down so the actual level of vibration in the tip isn’t all that great.
The ribs on the top and bottom make vaginal insertion a real pleasure for anyone who loves bumpy texture and stimulation. It also has a narrow tip but gets wider towards the base providing a nice feeling of stretching when inserted. The slight curve does provide a limited amount of g-spot stimulation but it is very shallow so if you want to really hit the spot you need to angle the toy very steeply.
The vibration feature works off a simple dial base control. In theory this should allow a wide range of vibration as it starts low and you turn it higher and higher. However there is pretty much low and high settings. The difference between the lowest and highest setting is noticeable but the vibration doesn’t really increase incrementally. The vibrations themselves are strong enough for a battery operated toy. Internally they are substantial enough but as I said above they lose some power when used on the clitoris. The vibrations themselves are powerful without being too loud. You could probably use it in another room with someone home.
There is no flare or any real base so it goes without saying that the sailor isn’t really designed/safe for use anally.

Experience
-Care/Storage-
Once you have finished playing with the sailor then cleaning is straight forward enough. Use warm water and soap or specialist toy cleaner. As it is splash proof you can run it under a tap but do not submerge it in the sink. The ribs do tend to collect residue and might need some extra attention when cleaning. Q-tips work great for cleaning little nooks and crannys.
Once you have cleaned the toy make sure it is completely dry before storing it. Also make sure to remove the batteries before storing as they can leak and damage the toys internal parts. The box it arrives in is a little oversized and being silver is less than discreet. What we find works best is zip-seal food bags. As it is a longer toy make sure to get a larger size (4.5L or more). These are great as they keep the toy free from dust and lint which silicone invariably attracts.
-Summary-
Having never had any prior experience with the Joy Division toys I honestly didn't know what to expect with this but they didn’t let me down. The packaging while a little bit shiny was also sturdy and kept the toy from getting damaged in transit. As for the toy itself, it performed well. The design is very aesthetically pleasing and immediately reminded me of a tongue. The controls are very simple and straight forward. While I would have liked more range of vibrations the toy was surprisingly powerful for a battery operated toy. The internal vibrations give off a wonderful rumbling sensation. If you like fantasy themed toys then you will love the sailor. If you are looking for a serious g-spot toy then this probably won't do.
