The top is doubled over about an inch or so and sewn. It has beautiful lace all around it that is about an inch from the top and frills out about an inch or so. Also, for those of you who are plus size, do not buy White holiday stockings. They don't stretch much at the top due to the lace. So if you have chubby thighs, do not buy these; find a different pair.
