Personally, I found the Reflections Ecstasy a bit underwhelming. Its best qualities (being waterproof and easily cleaned) are not that unique and can be found in other vibrators. Yes, I was able to make it work for me, eventually. But the shape was all wrong for my anatomy. It's no fault of the toy; we're just not that compatible. However, at the modest $32.99 price tag, it might be a good option for someone looking to acquire their first glass toy.
The Reflections Ecstasy by Doc Johnson is a hypoallergenic glass waterproof vibrator by Doc Johnson. It's pretty basic, doesn't take a genius to figure out, and therefore could be used by a wide range of nymphos. This toy features three levels of vibration, changeable with one easy push button. It has a simple, smooth, non-realistic design and can be used vaginally or clitorally. Though it was never written explicitly on the packaging, I would not recommend this toy for anal insertion. Because this vibrator is on the shorter side and lacks a flared base or any other type of handle, I was too afraid to try it in the back door, convinced it may slip away from my reach. It's fairly straightforward in design and may require a little creativity on the part of the user with additional toys or lubricants. Though simple in form and function, the Reflections Ecstasy's waterproof body adds a little diversity by enabling you to experiment in the shower and tub too. It's an awesome toy for solo play. It's great for couples. I haven't tried it out at a big wild crazy sex party (those are infrequent in my life), but I can't imagine it wouldn't be a big hit there too.
Quite possibly the best aspect of the Reflections Ecstasy is its insertable glass body. In terms of hygienics and safety, well cared for and appropriately cleaned glass toys are among the safest choices you can make. The non-porous surface makes it incredibly safe and void of any weird odors you might expect from other materials.
The toy appears to have an inner purple core surrounded by transparent, frosted glass. The base is plastic, sealed off with a waterproof O-ring. The frosting effect gives the surface a certain smooth softness, almost reminiscent of velvet cote. One of the downfalls to a non-porous slick glass toy like this is that lube just runs right off. I experimented with both silicone and water-based lubricants and had trouble preventing either from slipping off the toy and on to the sheets. Thankfully, the designers at Doc Johnson included parallel grooves running the entire length of the toy. At first I didn't understand why a vibrator would have vertical ridges. How could that possibly improve my physical experience with this toy? Well, now I see they're not really designed for pleasure but rather for the practical task of just giving the lubricant more of a surface to cling to.
Overall, the size and shape of the Reflections Ecstasy worked for me, but there were a few design aspects that left me a little perplexed. The purple color is lovely. Though not realistic at all, there is a nice aesthetic quality to the interplay of purple and clear layers. The 5” insertable length is not much to brag about, but it did the job while still leaving me something to grab onto at the end. Its 1 5/8” diameter makes it among the wider of the toys I own. However, the tapered end does allow you to warm up and work your way up to inserting the widest point. What I didn't like about this toy was the way it bulges in the middle and then quickly drops off to a smaller diameter. Once I made it over the hump, I found it to be a little uncomfortable to remove as I didn't have the same gradual approach I did while going in. In some ways, this design aspect is almost reminiscent of a butt plug, but it lacks the flared base to enable safe anal use. In the end, it took a lot of warming up to fully insert it vaginally.
The Reflections Ecstasy runs on just one (1) AA battery inserted positive end first. The plastic end cap simply screws on and off to insert the battery. There is one rubber button on the base labeled “3” that runs the entire toy. Click the button once and it turns on to a low rumbling vibration. A second click increases the intensity. The third click kicks it into high power while still retaining the low rumble as opposed to a high buzz. Finally, the fourth click of the button turns the toy off. There are no patterns or rhythms available, just three varying intensities, and you do have to cycle through all of them to turn the toy off. And because the Reflections Ecstasy is waterproof, you can try out all these functions in the bath or shower too!
I got this toy a month ago and have already noticed some issues with its performance. The button does not always respond when being pushed. Usually, this occurs when switching in and out of the second vibration level. I will click the button, and the toy will seize up. Sometimes I have to open and close the cap to get it working again. I don't know if I just received a dud with faulty wiring or if the vibrator isn't as waterproof as Doc Johnson claims. But it is worth considering that the inner electronics are starting to malfunction after only a month of occasional use and new batteries.
Caring for the Reflections Ecstasy is splendidly easy! It's glass and waterproof, so a sink bath with hot water and soap and then followed by a rinse is all it needs to be ready for the next round of fun. But if that's not enough to do the job or if you're just a germaphobe, you can make a sterile dip with 10% bleach and 90% water; just make sure to follow that up with the normal soap and water wash.
From my experience with the Reflections Ecstasy, I found I had to pay special attention to the grooves. They may look clean while washing, but I often found white flaky deposits in the crevasses after it air dried. Since then, I've made an extra effort to run a finger nail along the grooves and scrape everything out while washing it.

Follow-up commentaryI still don't like it1 month after original review
The Reflections Ecstasy is just not for me. I was never able to get the button to work consistently. I suspect that maybe the toy isn't as waterproof as Doc Johnson claimed and perhaps the electrical component got wet. What I'm left with is a really short, hard, awkwardly shaped dildo. It's just been sitting in a drawer for several weeks and not getting any love as I try to figure out an earth-friendly way to dispose of plastic and glass.
