Although this is designed to be a kegel exerciser or used for vaginal stretching, if you are looking for your first non-vibrating dildo then this would be a nice product to try. The only drawback is the seam is unforgiving and can be felt inside, but that could have just been mine.
The Samoa by California Exotic Novelties is designed as a Kegel exerciser and for vaginal stretching. However, my husband made the comment if it looks like a dildo, it's a dildo. I kept explaining to him that when I was assigned to review it, I thought it was going to be more suited for kegel exercises. However, I was wrong and he was right. After use, I can tell this is better suited for vaginal stimulation more than kegel exercise. Oh well, now I have my first dildo.
It would be best suited for those that are looking into one of their first dildos and was wanting something safe for the body.
It can be used solo or with a partner inserting it in and out for you.
Do not use this anally because it does not have a flared base.
It is made out of very soft and flexible silicone which is a 10 on Eden's safety scale. The flexibility is quite remarkable, I can make it bend in half allowing one end to touch the other end. It is food grade, hypoallergenic, non-porous, latex free, phthalates free, and does not have any smell.
It has three ridges or rings on one side of the product for texture and the other side is completely smooth. The ridges are designed to allow you to select the level that is comfortable for you and progress to improve your vaginal tone. Since I don't see how this would work for kegel exercises, the rings could be used for additional textured stimulatoin, but I could not feel any difference. The third ring, located in the middle of the toy, is the most pronounced ring out of the three rings.
There is a seam all the way around the sides of the Samoa that you can feel while holding it in your hand and when entered vaginally. This immediately threw me off this product because I don't want to be cut on the inside of my vagina with a toy.
It is a lovely lavender color. The size is just a little bit larger than my hand. The size is not intimidating for a dildo, but too large in my opinion for kegel exercises. I wasn't going to use the toy for vaginal stretching because I want to keep my vagina nice, small, and as tight as possible hence the reason I was going to use it for kegel exercises.
It has two ends on the product and slightly curves in the middle. One head is more pronounced than the other and is the end that contains the ridges. This end is 4 1/2" thick and the other end is 3 1/2" thick. Overall, the Samoa is 8 1/2" long.
It is small enough to be taken with you on your travels if you are planning on traveling. It will easily fit in your purse or bag.
Although it is small and discreet, I don't know if you could disguise this as anything else if you had company over and it was left out accidentally.
The above picture is comparing the Samoa with the other vaginal exercisers I have. This is how I based my opinion on the effectiveness of the Samoa to work for its intended use.
I just do not see how this can be used for kegel exercising so in that aspect it does not perform well. I inserted it and squeezed my pc muscles, but I don't see how it is any different than if I used nothing inserted in me at all.
The nice thing about it is it can be used anywhere and doesn't require batteries. It works well for a beginner dildo and considering that wasn't my intention, it's nice to have something that I can use in that aspect. I'm still learning my body, but this is a nice addition to all my vibrating clit toys.
It's water proof, so you can take this with you in the shower, bath, hot tub, swimming pool, etc. to have some fun exploring in the water with your little friend.
As with any silicone product, it is best to use water-based lubricant, and do not use silicone lubricant with this because silicone can break down the product and we would not want that.
It attracts hair and lint like crazy, but you can wash with soap and water or your favorite toy cleaner. Silicone can be fully disinfected by boiling it for 3 minutes or by throwing it into the top rack of your dishwasher.
It came in a see-through plastic container with Samoa vaginal stimulator on the front. You are able to see the exerciser through the plastic container. On the front, it also shows Dr. Laura Berman at the bottom and states intimate basics. At the top left corner it states that it is smooth, lightweight, silicone stimulator for vaginal exercise.
The side gives a small history of Dr. Laura Berman and what she does for a living. The back shows a picture of the Samoa.
There was no extra storage pouch with this product so you can store it in the given container wherever you store your toys. If you choose to throw the plastic container away, do not store with other silicone products.
It did not come with any additional instruction on how long one was supposed to use this as a kegel exercisor or for vaginal stretching. So I do not know how long it's supposed to be used to be able to see a difference in that regard.
I don't have any vaginal balls, but I do have a set of vaginal exercisers and I was expecting this to be something similar. As you can tell in the picture I included, they are nothing alike. To use the others, you squeeze your pc muscles and the two ends come closer together. This is what I was expecting from the Samoa, but I was mistaken. This is why I do not see how the Samoa can actually work. I don't see how having the Samoa can impact my pc muscles any different than if I didn't have anything in there to begin with.
Follow-up commentaryI still don't like it7 months after original review
I hated the seam on this toy and once I found the Jopen Intensity I never used this again. The whole concept behind this was wonderful, because it is important to do your kegel exercises, but the follow through was just not what I was expecting.
