Just dipping your toes into the world of kink? Not sure about it altogether? These tweezer style clamps are a great starting point. They offer lighter sensations that anyone can enjoy. Whether you're just introducing nipple play into your routine or a fervent player, these adjustable clamps will find their place in your sexy time arsenal.
The beaded tweezer clamps made by Spartacus are a pair of fully adjustable nipple clamps. Over the last 25 years, Spartacus has a made a name for themselves selling adult fetish and BDSM products. As an American manufacturer, all their products are assembled in the United States. Their chic tweezer clamps won't scare off a beginner and are a great way to introduce a little kink into the bedroom.
They deliver light to moderate pressure depending on the placement of the slider. This adjustability makes them a great choice for beginners to nipple play. The avid pain lover can still get some satisfaction out of these on days when lighter stimulation is desired.
Though feminine in design, both men and women will be able to enjoy the sensations they provide. Not only can they be stimulating for the wearer but the visual they give to a partner can be equally arousing.
Blood circulation is cut off through a constant pressure that fingers alone can not duplicate. Tugging on them will intensify the sensations. Removing them can be just as exciting as blood shoots back into the nipples. Note that potential intensifying of orgasm can result from the use of these nipple clamps.
They could also be used as a clitoral clamp, though I am not brave enough to take this theory to the sheets.
The package lists the clamps as being made of metal and glass. Conversely, Eden claims they are made with metal and plastic. After a thorough search, I can not confidently say what exactly the beads or rubber tips are made of, nor can I be sure of what type of metal these are.
Metal is a fairly body-safe material, as rated a 9 on Eden's safety scale, provided the user has no related allergies. Should a rash or irritation occur, they should not be worn.
The bar that makes up the "tweezer" portion, as well as the sliding adjuster ring are composed of this rigid metal material. Soft, supple rubber-like covers for the tips can be removed for cleaning or for a bit more bite. Although, these will protect the nipples from damage so their use is recommended. Their easy removal is both a good and bad thing.
The beads are held together by a smaller metal rod and securely linked onto the tweezer.
According to Spartacus, the beads are made of glass. They are elegant and do not look cheap. Similar to a prism, they have flat surfaces giving them more depth. The first is a small clear bead, followed by a larger dark metallic blue bead. Next is a small bead in the shape of a rounded gear, for lack of a better description. Below that is another blue bead the same as the second and the last one is the largest, a black bead.
Tweezer style clamps are designed to act like tweezers. The metal bar that makes up the tweezer is one solid piece that is folded in half. It is pinched near the bottom, leaving a bubbled portion that keeps the slider from falling off. This is also the place for bead attachment. The two tips on the open end are bent inward, flattened and widen slightly. This allows them to better grab onto their target.
The metal is painted black. This adds a bit of flair and gives them an edge over others of similar design. Unfortunately, the slider seems to rub off some of the black paint over time. One of my clamps arrived already scuffed up. There was already more damage to begin with than I found the slider has since cause.
The beads have enough room to spin but are otherwise snug on the rod. However, the link between the rod and the tweezer allows the beads to move around separate from the tweezer. This also enables them to be coquettishly jingled when worn, while slightly intensifying the bite they deliver.
Rather than listing measurements, I have illustrated them below.
The bars can be pulled apart to a maximum of an inch and a quarter. As such, they will fit any size of nipples. The average nipple size for a woman is just above 3/8" (10mm). Mine are pretty much average and I've had no trouble with fit.
The clamps can slip off smaller nipples, such as those of men, or when they are set to a lower level. They are also very difficult to put on tiny man nipples. Larger nipples may feel the pinch more intensely at lower settings but will be easier to adjust and will stay on better.
The nipples may need to be played with a little beforehand to get them ready without shocking them. When putting them on, place the erect nipple between the open ends. Try to get as close to the base of the nipple, clamping part of the areola. Hold the tips in place while sliding the metal ring up towards the nipple. They will fall off if not tight enough so a certain base intensity is required in a sense. Spartacus has labelled these as a 1-2 level intensity, with 3 being the most intense. This is an accurate description.
Once I get them on me well, they stay put fairly well and are comfortable to wear. I have had some trouble with the slider falling down since I wear them on a relatively low intensity. Unfortunately, my difficulties have been worsened by the scraped off paint on one of my clamps. Due to this, the slider does not stay up well where I prefer to have them set.
The rubber covers can stick to the skin making quick removal even more painful. Regardless, they should be removed slowly the first few times so that you can accustom yourself to the feeling of blood rushing back.
These rubber covers can slip off if the clamps are adjusted tightly and pulled on. This could lead to damage of the nipple or loss of the covers.
The clamps should not get too dirty but things always have the potential to get a little wet and messy in bed. They can be cleaned with warm water and soap, toy wipes or a toy cleaner. Just be sure to dry them completely before storing to avoid any rusting.
The box insert can be used for storage as it would keep them together. It is, however, a bit bulky for the size of the clamps. A storage pouch or baggie would be a good option. They can then simply be tossed in a drawer or toy box. I have found that they do fit very well in the condom cube, while still leaving ample room to store a couple bullets, cock rings, batteries, or other clamps alongside.
The packaging follows the theme of elegance and class. It is minimal yet does not hinder the performance or exquisiteness of the clamps.
They come in a generic black cardboard box with a plastic screen displaying the clamps. The company name and logo is printed on the front and sides of the box. The back of the box lists some contact information for Spartacus.
There is an insert that can be seen through the screen in front and a cutout in back. This insert is specific to the toy housed inside. In front it tells you what the toy is and level of intensity on a scale of 1 to 3. The back briefly describes what they are, how to use the clamps and other color options.
The box can be opened from the top or bottom and the insert slides out. Each clamp is attached to a protruding section of the insert.
Female nipples are said to have more nerve endings as compared to mens. They are also likely to be more due to hormones. Consequently, sensitivity can change throughout the month. It has been shown that nipple play causes activity in the same part of the brain as genital play does in women.
Safety: Since the clamps function to cut off blood flow, they should not be worn for more than 30 minutes at a time. It is best to start at 5 minutes and work up to longer wear. Though breasts are designed to withstand a certain amount of torture, always proceed with caution. Beginners especially, as the sensations are unknown and can be stronger than anticipated.
I have insanely sensitive nipples. The slightest touch gets me in the worst possible frenzy and feels more akin to nails on a chalkboard to me. Why on Earth would she be reviewing nipple clamps or all things, you ask?
Well my partner is a boob man. So I searched for the least intense clamps I could find and came across these.
Though I still abhor having my nipples played with, I am finding some enjoyment in these clamps. The sensations are far different than my previous hands-on experiences.
I am still unable to wear them for more than 5 minutes at a time but I do enjoy the time I get out of them. Taking them off is just as much fun as having them on. I get a little uncomfortable and nauseous the longer I wear these so I don't keep them on too long. This may be symptomatic of my sensitive skin or perhaps just my aberrant nature. I may eventually work my way up the kinky ladder but I am content with the awareness these clamps have afforded me.
By the time I reach orgasm, I need a few tugs in order to sense them again. They do feel good though, that I can vouch for that.
My partner absolutely loves these on me. He gets turned on with just the anticipation when seeing them in my hands. We did try them on him and while he did like the sensations, they do not stay on him very well. Besides, I found them just a tad too feminine for him.
My biggest qualm with these is the issue with the paint scratching off. It wasn't such a big deal until I realized that the slider just falls right back down on the scuffed clamp. Since this aesthetic issue has now leached into functionality, I was forced to bump my rating down to 3 stars. I would still recommend these to any beginner looking to try something new.
Follow-up commentaryI don't like it anymore9 months after original review
It's not that I don't like these anymore, but the scuffed paint on the one clamp has reached a point where the slider just won't stay up at all. I have purchased some of the bull-nose/alligator style clamps and am loving those at the moment.
I still think the tweezer style is a great option for beginners and the beads on these particular ones look great. However, these days, when I am approached with the question "which clamps would you recommend to a beginner?", my answer tends to be the bull-nose style clamps.
