The Velvet G is only kind of velvet. While soft to the touch and good at hitting its target, it's less than forgiving and downright uncomfortable to insert and remove.

Pros
Waterproof, hits G-spot well
Cons
Kinda big, horribly uncomfortable to remove, seams that scream "bacteria hide-out"
This Vibrator is advertised as a g-spot vibrator... and vibrate that spot it does! The angle of the egg-shaped head also makes it ideal for clitoral stimulation which I know I definitely needed before using this baby for its intended use. It's also great for general vibration stimulation wherever you may desire it. This is definitely a solo toy; honestly, with its size and awkward insertion, I would find it awkward to use in any other situation.
With the word "velvet" in the name of the toy, you would expect something very soft. Admittedly, the texture of the toy is velvety when simply stroking the toy, but the second you get a grip on it, all thought of sensuality disappear. This one's rock hard; in a battle between your girlie bits and Jenna's hammer, your girls lose. The G is made from a velvet cote and plastic. It's non-porous and safe to use with both water-based and silicone-based lubricants.
The first thing I thought when I opened up my package was "Wow. That's big." The angle of the head appeared to be ideal (I compared it to the angle of my Bgee) so I was ready to give it a shot. It's size was a little disheartening not only at first look, but also first play. This is definitely not a beginner toy. Also, the shape proved to be perfect for hitting the G-spot (yay!) but when any real movement was attempted, I found myself in complete discomfort and, at times, in a little pain. The egg shaped head makes a definite hook with the stem of the vibrator and that hook was perfectly shaped to get hooked on what I assume was my pelvic bone. Whatever it was getting stuck on, it hurt. I was forced to slowly and carefully turn the toy sideways for what was still an uncomfortable removal. Not only did that egg make insertion and removal a pain, but cleaning as well! The visible seams between then head and the stem just scream a perfect place to harvest bacteria.
Finally. When I went to try this baby out, despite my hesitance, I put it two new batteries and fired her up. The vibrations are concentrated at the head of the toy, but can definitely be felt throughout. They are more of a buzzing vibration and I found my hand getting tingly after a while. There is a nob at the base of the vibrator that acts as the battery cap (twist it off completely and insert two AA batteries) and also as the dial for the vibrations (turn the very end of it and the vibrations increase). I found myself skipping the first 90% of the turn of the dial and cranked it straight up to high. These vibrations were strong enough to be felt; strong enough to give me the umph I needed for clitoral stimulation, but not quite strong enough to get me off with just the g-spot action. While it did a fantastic job of reaching that spot, I just need a bit more buzz to get off. When on the highest settings, the vibrations are definitely loud enough to hear through the covers, but only can be heard through a closed door if you were listening for it. The Velvet G is waterproof, though honestly, after my painful experience with this one, I haven't tested it out in the water yet. That may be something for the follow-up.
The G is made of an easy-to-clean material, but its design makes it harder to clean. Don't boil this one, but instead wash it with some anti-bacterial soap and water or with a cleaning wipe. The seam at the head where it connects to the stem is the hard part. There's one real seam as well as a healthy divot where the angle of the head is made. Both of these spots need some special attention when cleaning. It'd be very easy for bacteria to hide there.
The Velvet G came in a sort of "valley girl" looking clear box with orange and purple designs on it and the Doc Johnson logo on the top. There's a seductive blurb on the back about how the Velvet G will hit your g-spot "like a velvet hammer." Well...That's right. The box is suitable for storage, but not ideal as it's very clear and a little large.
When I finally was able to get off with this one, it was by using it as a clitoral vibrator; and it took a bit. While the vibrations worked well for my clitoris, and the angle of the head was perfect for hitting my g-spot, the vibrations just didn't cut it for my g-spot. Also, anytime a toy causes me pain that wasn't what was being sought, it's a pretty big downer.
I give this two stars because, though it hit the spot, there is way too much to improve upon. The seams are terrible for cleaning, the size combined with the hook of the head where it meets the stem is awkward and painful for insertion, removal, and the time in between. The term "velvet" is deceiving as this one's not very forgiving with you. At least the pink's pretty?
Follow-up commentaryI've started to like it more4 months after original review
So far, I still hate the Jenna's velvet G for its intended purpose. It's simply too uncomfortable and terribly shaped. But I've really enjoyed double-teaming myself with this and another g-spot vibrator, using my other vibrator for its intended, insertable use, and the Velvet G as a handy dandy clitoral vibrator. The vibrations are strong enough to aid my other vibrators in their mission to send me to the roof.

Great review - I had pretty much the same exact experience with this toy. It did its job but it was sooo uncomfortable - and the seams scare me a little!

I love that g-spot vibrators can easily be turned into clitoral vibrators in a snap. Fantastic review!
Kim!
I'm not sure that I would even give this thing 2 stars! I've read a couple of reviews because every single time I see it pop up somewhere I wonder how that could be enjoyable for anyone! It just looks too awkward.

@ToriRebel : Yeah, I think everyone had that experience with this one :/ I may be digging it out for clitoral play, but honestly, I've got my Bgee that can do both... :/
@Annemarie : I do too! With the angle that all of the g-spot vibrators have, it makes them perfect to be clitoral vibrators too!
@Kim! : It really is awkward, and honestly, the second I got it, I was nervous about it...it's just too big and too bulky to be comfortable with that shape :/
Thanks, guys!

Good point about the seams! I hadn't thought of that before.
