Jabberwocky Vibes

The Kinky Kat is a discombobulated vibrator all too closely conforming to the Wonderland afflatus. Whimsical in nature and unsatisfying in orgasmic capability, this one may be better left on a shelf rather than between your legs. Unreasonably weak, buzzy vibrations come together with frustrating functions in a cute, yet awkward design.

Use

The Kinky Kat is one of five Alice in Wonderland inspired vibrators from Doc Johnson's Wonderland collection. It is the newest and latest craze of collectible sex toys. Five attributed vibrators make up the collection. Each is modeled after one of the characters from Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Cheshire Cat is the archetype for Wonderland's Kinky Kat. This mischievous personified cat was designed to bring some enchantment to the bedroom.

This Kat is mainly for external use. The elaborate texture may be tempting to insert but the design does not allow for easy and comfortable insertion. There is no flared base. As such, unless a firm grip is maintained on the handle, it is not well suited for anal use and I do not condone it.

Albeit, the diverse textures allow for creative stimulation of any external erogenous zones. Use it to stimulate the clitoris, labia, nipples, or even the testicles and run along the penis.

Material / Texture

The Kat is made of plastic and silicone. The battery cap is non-porous, phthalate-free plastic which is rated 8 out of 10 on Eden's safety scale. Silicone, on the other hand, is even safer at a 10 rating. It also is non-porous and free of phthalates and latex. The body of the toy is comprised of plastic covered by a layer of silicone, making it a hard toy.

The silicone is soft and velvety. The plastic of the battery cap is almost indiscernible as it feels remarkably similar to the silicone. The quality is definitely there. Amazingly, this silicone does not have any drag nor does it pick up lint. A rare find in a silicone toy.

The neck of the Kat can be flexed. While there is not really any give to the silicone, the head can be squished ever so slightly.

The various textures are not likely something a beginner would appreciate internally. A tail wraps around a teardrop shaped body in 4 turns. This texture can be felt during insertion. The details on the face are particularly nice for external use. The characteristic Cheshire cat grin is surely the most identifiable feature and indeed stimulating. The wide protruding upper lip and small heart-shaped nose are easily felt. The teeth provide a slight texture, adding some variety, but the toy must be angled awkwardly in order to sense it. The rest of the face and back of the head is completely smooth.

Silicone is known for being odorless. However, this material has a terribly foul smell. So bad that it could not even be admired before having to tuck it back in its box. The smell will absolutely bother those who are sensitive, as I am. When washed with Climax Bursts, the toy retained the smell of the cleaner. This was better than the initial off-puting scent but important to note that it seems to hold on to smells.

Assuming the collectible appeal of these toys, a large grisly seam runs around both sides of the silicone. Though it in no way affects function, this seam is not something one would care for in a collector's edition item.

Design / Shape / Size

This toy is anything but phallic. Beginners can enjoy a non-threatening vibrator, leaving advanced users equally happy with the uniqueness its shape provides. Although some may be creeped out by the design, other Wonderland aficionados won't imagine a better one. The Kat is cute and eerie all wrapped into one dainty vibrator. Even to those who may not be the biggest fans of the Alice in Wonderland tale, this cat is certainly recognizable as none other than the Cheshire cat. His uncanny, characteristic smile being the major giveaway. The fact that it has no eyes can only be assumed to be part of its quirky persona.

Needless to say the major flaw in the design is not aesthetic but rather in function. The ears, while cute and definitely a contributing if not essential part to a cat, are extremely pointy. They poke all the wrong places, both internally and externally. Although pin-point stimulation is out, the smooth surface on the head allows for a broad area to be stimulated.

Thankfully the design flaws end there. The Kat is small enough to be tossed in a purse or overnight bag, making it great for travel. It measures just under 5.5" in total length. Four of those inches can be inserted. While not very girthy, the textures will add a larger-than-life sensation. It is about 4" around the head and 4.5" around the widest part of the body. The handle is a mere 3" and the neck tapers down to just under 3" in circumference. This Kat lives up to the discreet quality of which the Cheshire cat was known for. This kitty may not vanish the way the Cheshire cat could but it is easily kept hidden from prying eyes.

There is a plastic gold band at the base of the body just above the battery cap. This gold band is featured on each of the Wonderland toys, bringing the collection even closer together.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Kat is controlled by one push button at the base. Push once to turn it on and continue pushing to cycle through the functions. Holding down the button for a few seconds will turn it off.

There are 3 steady vibration speeds and 7 different patterns. A description of each in the appropriate order follows.

1. High intensity steady
2. Medium intensity steady
3. Low intensity steady
4. Escalating short pulses
5. Short medium intensity pulses
6. Long high intensity pulses
7. Short high intensity pulses
8. Long medium intensity pulses
9. Very long high intensity pulses
10. Short low intensity pulses

The Kat has an odd sort of memory. Once turned off, it will be on the next setting when turned on again. So in order to return to your favorite function, all 10 settings must first be cycled through. However, should the battery cap be removed for any reason, the Kat will always return to the first setting.

When on, a white LED light shines through the cap. There is a clear white rubber ring surrounding the control button, through which the light is able to glow brightest. At steady vibration speeds the light glows solid, whereas the light will pulse in sync with the vibration patterns.

The Kat takes one AA battery to run. The battery cap is removed by twisting the cap counterclockwise until it pops up. It can then be lifted off with ease. To replace the cap, the two grooves must line up with the corresponding nubs. As they are different sizes, they must line up perfectly to fit. Once lined up, push down on the cap and twist clockwise to secure it.

Though I don't know an exact battery life, it is certainly not a battery guzzler as I have yet to replace it.

The vibrations are very buzzy and inordinately weak. They are concentrated in the head and can barely be felt in the handle. On the bright side, weak vibrations breed quiet vibrators. This one won't be heard from under a blanket and certainly not from behind a closed door.

There is a clear rubber o-ring that makes the Kat completely waterproof. It can be taken anywhere, whether it's into the shower, bathtub, or pool. Try soaking the Kat in a bowl or warm water for a few minutes. The silicone will retain heat and make play time that much more fun.

Care and Maintenance

Since the Kat is waterproof, cleaning is worry free. It can be washed with warm water and mild antibacterial soap. Toy cleaner or toy wipes are also safe to use. For sanitizing, it can be wiped down with a 10 percent bleach solution. Do not boil or place a vibrator in the dishwasher as this will damage the internal workings.

There are many crevices in which fluids can get stuck and cleaning can be a little cumbersome. A few small crannies between the wrapped tail and the nook below the chin will require some attention. The teeth must be meticulously cleaned to avoid leaving bacteria behind to divide and conquer.

This is not the best toy to share as cleaning is so inefficient and the plastic can not be sterilized. Likewise, if using this anally, cover it with a condom or give it a good thorough wash before using is vaginally.

Only water based lubricants will be compatible with the silicone body of the Kat. Other lubricants can ruin the soft silicone. For the same reasons, store it away from other silicone toys.

When storing, be sure to remove the battery so it does not drain. The Kat can be tucked back into its bed inside the box for easy and discreet storage. Place the box in your bookcase for the incognito Kat we all love and want. Although highly unlikely, should you decide to trash the box, this vibrator could just as easily be stored in a pouch or simply tossed in your drawer.

Packaging

Packaging like this is expected of hundred dollar products and not one of this price range. This is a collectible item with a box you will want to hold onto.

The front of the sleeve names the Kinky Kat as a "10 function silicone pleasure product". It has a very nearly life-size embossed image of the vibrator busting out of the box, revealing a wonderland mystery setting from within. The back of the sleeve details some general specs about the Kat, manufacturer information and includes a small story about this kitty cat vibrator. This external sleeve has a beautiful, invisible writing detail that covers all four sides of it.

There is a plastic hanger tab that functions to easily pull the box out of the sleeve. This inner box is far more discreet. It is a durable white cardboard box designed to simulate the appearance of a book. One side has "Wonderland" written in gold embossed letters and nothing else. The other three sides are adorned with faux pages. The front of the false book again has "Wonderland" in the same bold gold letters, with an imaginative emblem. This creative emblem is a "W" in a circle and made like a shiny sticker. The back of the box has a Doc Johnson logo stamped in gold. The epitome of discretion, this inner box can be placed in a book shelf to blend in perfectly.

A magnetic flap holds the cover of the box closed. The Kinky Kat sits in a fuzzy tray. There is a small instruction manual folded up under this form. Although I didn't even realize they were there until much later, it is nice that some instructions for use, battery installation, troubleshooting and warnings are provided. These are written in 6 different languages.

The embossed images and lettering, the magnetic book-action box, the subtle imaginary text enveloping the outer sleeve, and the velvet cat bed refuging a secret Kat add to the wonderment defining this collection. It's really all the little details that not only visually stimulate but that one can truly appreciate.

The box is a mere 3.5" by 7" by 1.5", surprisingly smaller than I had anticipated.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

When I saw that Eden was carrying the Wonderland collection there was no way I could pass up this one in particular, if for no other reason than to say I own a hot pink kitty vibrator. As such, I can hardly say that I was disappointed. Yes, the vibrations are buzzy and about as strong as an actual kitties purr. The shape is also a little absurd for insertion, but it holds up very well as a collector’s edition toy.

It does function wonderfully as a warm-up toy but it was never enough to get me to fall down the rabbit hole. I tried it several times on my clit during sex and paired it with my favorite dildo a couple times but it never performed exactly the way I had wanted it to.

For sex, it was much harder to keep in place and the pressure that I need to climax was painful with that little invasive nose poking me.

Trying to get pin-point vibes was a challenge in itself. I thought the little ears would be great but I got nothing but another painful poke.

For solo use, I did like that I had the space to rub it around and could feel the texture provided by the upper lip and teeth. This was interesting and not terrible at all.

Being that it doesn't have any drag, lube is not really needed when using this externally. However, for internal use I recommend lots of water based lubricant. For the purposes of my review, I felt obliged to see what the Kat had to offer when inserted. The first time was all wrong. The ears poked so bad that I couldn’t get it in. The next time, I decided I would have to be good and ready. I warmed up with one of my larger toys and was able to insert the Kat with much less of a struggle. Sadly, I could feel the ears continuously poking at my insides. The texture of the tail was nice but no match for the discomfort rendered by the ears.

The patterns were useless to me and the only one I found even remotely interesting was the fourth pattern. Luckily, the weak vibrations made it so I wasn’t bothered by the wonky settings. I didn’t have the need to cycle up in speed and could just start out on the first high speed. Just a note, Mimi’s second speed is more than enough for me, while the Kat’s high speed was merely a tease.

I still have some mixed emotions with quality and function. I expect a collector’s item to be flawless in design but this one has an awful seam wrapping around it. As far as being a functional vibrator, I fear the women who will be satisfied by these vibrations will be few and far between.  These are vibrations a beginner or hyper sensitive person will appreciate. However, a beginner may have similar experiences to mine with insertion.

"The teeth must be meticulously cleaned to avoid leaving bacteria behind to divide and conquer." ... Eeek, I can just imagine taking a tiny toothbrush to the face if this sticky wet toy post-use! I love cute toys but the cumbersome cleaning makes this one not worth it for me. Thanks for the detailed review!
