Good silicone lube, Great personal moisturizer

Pjur Woman is a very good, high quality silicone lubricant. It's smooth, velvety, slick, moisturizes well and works very well for sex. Like all Pjur silicone lubes, it doesn't take much and it lasts a long time. It's not quite as good as the original Pjur formula, but it's still better than most silicone lubricants.

Use

Pjur Woman is a silicone lube designed to be both a good lube, and friendly to the vagina. It uses a slightly different set and ratio of silicone from other silicone-based lubes, to make it a more moisturizing lubricant. For these reasons, it makes a fantastic personal moisturizer. It's also a good lubricant for sex, both with or without toys.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Pjur Woman is a thin lube that tends to run. The texture is very, very smooth and velvety, more so than the original Pjur formula. When applied to skin, it seems to slowly absorb like a moisturizer, leaving the skin soft and smooth. Unfortunately, it doesn't completely disappear. It also leaves a bit of a slick, yet not greasy feeling that doesn't quite feel clean, though this fades after a while.

Taste / Aroma

Pjur Woman has no taste or smell. The texture is a little odd on the tongue, though, until you get used to it.

Performance

Pjur Woman is fantastic as a vaginal moisturizer. It keeps the skin down there soft and lubricated for hours, preventing chafing during everyday activities.

It also does a good job preventing chafing during other, more intimate activities. Not an amazing job, for a silicone lube, but still a very good job. A small amount stayed slick for quite a while, though it needed reapplying sooner than Pjur Original. It was a good lube for vaginal sex with toys and with a penis, but it just wasn't thick enough for anal play. While both Original and Woman are Pjur silicone lubricants, Woman didn't last as long under water; but in the shower, they worked equally well.

The ingredients are all approved for cosmetic use, but may not be approved for use in food, so while I tasted it, we didn't use this lube for oral sex.

Packaging

The packaging is an issue I have with all of the Pjur products I've tried. The round bottle fits into random storage places well, sits well in the hand, and looks really cool. Unfortunately, it also has a tendency to leak. No matter how tightly I close the bottle, it often ends up leaking. Also, the small 1oz bottles have a tendency to crack at the top along the edge of the pouring hole, running down toward the side of the bottle. Both of these add up to lube wastage, and at this price that is a serious flaw.

On the up side, while it leaks, it never stained any of the surfaces it leaked on, especially my sheets.

Special Features

Pjur Woman has a short ingredient list. The members of the list may not be familiar to those new to silicone lubricants, but old hands will find them old friends.

Cyclopentasiloxane: silicone; emollient (softens and soothes skin); safe for cosmetic use
Dimethicone: silicone; skin protectant; safe for cosmetic use
Dimethiconol: silicone; emollient; safe for cosmetic use

All of the ingredients in Pjur Woman are safe for at least cosmetic use. Information about whether they are safe to ingest was difficult to find. The closest I could find to an answer as to the internal safety of these ingredients was this: a variety of silicone is safe for lubricating food-processing machinery. Substance on food processing machinery = highly likely to be small amounts of substance in finished product. This is taken into account when approving lubricants for food processing machinery, so it looks like it would be safe to assume that some silicone is safe to ingest in small quantities, and the rest have never shown issued when ingested (only when leaked into the body cavity by way of breast implants).

What we have here is a pretty darn body-safe lubricant with ingredients that should soften and protect the skin.

Unfortunately, it isn't as safe for silicone toys. It left the small test patch on my silicone vibrator tacky, and the whole tacky spot had to be carefully scraped off. The same thing happened when the test was repeated on a Tantus dildo. Tantus toys are supposed to be compatible with some Pjur silicone lubes, but this is not one of them.

Experience

As an already devoted fan of Pjur Original, I purchased my first bottle of Pjur Woman for its advertised differences. I had a severe vaginal dryness problem, and while Pjur Original lasted, I was always aware of it. I was always conscious of the fact that there was lube on my vagina. While this was sexy at first, it got old fast. It wasn't inherently arousing, it was just there.

Enter Pjur Woman, stage left. Spotlight cue.

Pjur Woman moisturizes without being quite so annoyingly present. I put it on, and after a little while I forgot it was even there. It was smooth, it let things glide the way they were supposed to, and it didn't make a primadonna of itself, begging for attention.

For sex, it wasn't quite as fantastic. It was a great lube for sex, but for us, it just wasn't as good as Pjur Original.
Follow-up commentary
While this is still a nice lube, it's not one I will be buying again. With my dryness issues being dealt with hormonally, I have no need for the extra features Pjur Woman provides. It's still nice for sex, but it rarely gets used unless we can't find the Pjur Original.

On a side note: while this is safe for everyday use with non-silicone toys, I thought I'd report something strange that would never happen under normal conditions. For a few months, a leaky bottle of Pjur Woman shared a hiding place with a missing rubber-coat vibrator. When the toy and bottle were recovered, the place where the little puddle of lube had been touching the toy was discolored. There was no other damage to the toy, and it continues to be safe and pleasurable to use, but I thought it was odd that over a period of a few months this supposedly inert lubricant reacted with the surface of my toy. I say again, this reaction would probably never have a chance to take place in normal, everyday play, as most people don't leave lube on their toys, undried, for months on end. But it was still odd.

I don't know if I'd be willing to pay that much for a leaky bottle. =/ Silicone lube has always struck me as being too greasy, anyway, but that's a purely personal opinion.

    Great review!

I use dimethicone on my face under sunscreen. It holds in moisture and temporarily makes wrinkles look filled in. Its what most makeup primers primarily consist of, and you don't have to be wearing makeup to utilize them.

Thanks Backseat Boohoo! The larger bottles don't seem to crack, but they still leak a little. Clearance sales is the way to go on this one.

Nice to know, Kuuipogal. I guess that's one way to use up silicone lubes that aren't lasting enough.

The leaking does not sound good!
  • Contributor: Luscious Lily
Yeah, it was really frustrating. I had to keep the last bottle in a plastic bag, and I lost a bunch of lube into said bag.

You're lucky the bag didn't leak too. I had a silicone lube that leaked from the bottle, so I put it in a zip bag. Within 3 days it had oozed through the baggie too!
    Thanks for the review. Smile

    Thanks Happy Lady!

I found that in regular zip bags, it leaked out, but for some reason in the heavy-duty freezer zip bags, it didn't. I'm not sure why, but the freezer bags seem to work better for containing persnickety lubes.

This sounds like a great product, but I am not down with a leaky bottle. Is there anyway u can put it into another bottle?
