The Mood Playful isn't enough for me. It has a cute simple look but it is boring during use. For the price I would expect a lot more from this vibrator. I do like that it is well made and totally waterproof, but I think it is much too expensive for its features.

Doc Johnson has updated their line and their packaging...and apparently their pricing! This vibrator isn't worth the $35 price tag it has currently. To me, this is more like a $25 vibrator at most. It's very traditional and more petite in size. It has a decent thickness, but it is very short. The coolest thing about this vibrator is its dual material and texture. It's also very easy to use a well made. It's not a delicate vibrator and only takes two AAA batteries. It has three steady vibration strengths, but it's very quiet on the highest level. The vibration levels are a little above average and not buzzy, but won't be enough for everyone. The Mood Playful vibrator looks cute, but doesn't have everything it should for the price.
The Mood Playful is mostly made of a smooth plastic but the colored part is a high grade TPE material. The dual material design is really unique especially since it is done in this way. The plastic is glossy and non-porous. Both materials are hypo-allergenic and free of both latex free and phthalates. TPE is somewhat porous and cannot be sterilized so a condom is recommended for sharing. The TPE is smooth and velvety, but it has some drag to it. For those who don't have a lot of natural lubricant, it may require lubricant. The material has no smell or taste.
This vibrator is very traditional with a little update on the controls and the dual material design. Not counting the button at the bottom it's 5 3/8" in length. The insertable length is around 4 1/2" - from tip to where the seam it from the battery compartment. The thickness is 1 1/4" in diameter and 3 3/4" in circumference. I was surprised by this measurement because it feels thicker. I think this might be because it has a lot of weight to it, especially compared to other toys of the same size. The tip is nicely rounded for insertion and not at all pointy. You don't lose any of the girth with a gradual increase to the thickness. The dual texture is cut and has a wave pattern to it. The seam where it changes it smooth and cannot be felt during insertion.
The base unscrews and has a very noticeable gap between the cap and the rest of the vibrator. This is because there is a large o-ring to make it waterproof. It unscrews and re-screws very easily. It's nice to have a vibrator with a simple battery compartment. A plastic tube slides out which is where the AAA batteries get put in. It can only go back in one way, so don't force it.
In a way I feel like this toy is discreet because of the wave pattern. It wouldn't take long to figure out what it is, though. It is excellent for travel.
This vibrator is excellent for beginners because of how easy it is to use. There is a simple push button on the bottom for the vibrator that has the number 3 on it. This stands for the three vibration modes it has. There really isn't that much difference between the vibration levels, but there are distinct levels.
1. Pushing the button will turn on the first steady level which I consider to be average. This is a bit disappointing considering the higher price of this vibrator. $10 vibes can produce the same level of vibration. The noise level is also pretty average. It might be able to be heard through a door if it is not in contact with the body or inserted.
2. The next level is barely higher than the first, which is slightly above average. This level should be okay for a lot of women since the vibrations are concentrated in the tip and the TPE material dampens the buzzy feel.
3. The third level has a higher jump and isn't too strong for me. It doesn't impress me for the price though! I'd expect this to be more powerful than this even though it is enough for me. Internally, the vibrations are only high enough for me on this level. This level is also higher in noise and not very discreet.
I am 100% confident that this vibrator is waterproof. It's lock tight. It also passed my tub ad shower test. This toy was submerged for a few minutes at a time and I didn't see any leaking into the battery compartment when I took the batteries out of it for storage.
This vibrator is easy to take care of. I had no problem cleaning it by just wiping down the material with a toy wipe and toy cleaner spray. It can be deep cleaned with an anti-bacterial soap and warm water. For lubricant, you can use silicone, water, oil, or hybrid based lubricant, and a lot is not needed. When storing you have to keep it separate from other toys because the TPE can react with other similar materials. This seems to be high quality and might not be as much or a problem, though. Remove the batteries before storing to preserve their life and prevent corrosion.
I like and don't like the new Doc Johnson packaging. I like the cute polka dots and colorful polka dots, but the package is too big for the toy. It's clear that they use the same box for a lot of different toys and just use a different plastic insert for the different toys. The outside box is black with a matte feel. The toy can be seen through a large cut out with colorful polka dot background. The back is very informative. It explains the features, material, batteries, cleaning, lubricant, and speeds. It would make a cute gift. If you want to save space when storing, you'll have to ditch the box.
This vibrator is a little too plain for me. I can get off from it clitorally, but I don't enjoy inserting it. I'm not impressed with this vibrator for the price. I expected the vibrator to have a higher power level on the last level and I didn't expect the vibrations to be quite as buzy. If you like more simple vibrators that don't have texture, the Mood Playful might be a good choice, but it doesn't do enough for me. I do, however, feel it would be a good toy for using with a partner or introducing toys into a relationship.
Follow-up commentaryI still don't like it2 months after original review
The Mood Playful is just one of those toys that doesn't do enough. It probably does for many, but not for me. I still think it's very over priced for what it is, and for that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional looking vibrator.
