Upon receiving it, I scooped out a dime sized amount and rubbed it onto each of his feet, massaging it in and then covered his feet with socks before bed. It is a thick salve, thicker than petroleum jelly. The smell is hard to describe, it isn't a perfumed scent but it isn't bad either. It reminds me of the smell of hoof salve that we use on horses and other livestock. It has a slight medicinal smell, but it is very light and a little pleasant.
