This toy is made out of silicone, which receives the highest safety rating of 10 on the Eden safety scale. This toy is completely non-porous. I am a person who tends to prefer plastic over silicone. This entire toy is about 4 inches long; an inch of the toy, however, is devoted to the twist dial base. Only about 3 inches of the toy are insertable. The dial base is white plastic with a silver plastic ring that leads to the beautiful plum silicone.
