A Nice Toy, But Not Quite the Jewel of My Collection
I would rate this toy at 3.5 stars. It is a good toy, but not a phenomenal one. It is very basic without a lot of bells and whistles to it, but it performs nicely. It does have a couple of flaws, but nothing too major. I think it would make for a nice first toy for a beginner.

Pros
Price, simple to use
Cons
lid comes off easily, drains batteries when not in use
The Climax Jewel is a traditional-style vibrator that is simple and would be great for a beginner. It is good for vaginal use, though not everyone will be able to get to their G-spot with it. It is also great for clitoral stimulation and other external stimulation. It is not going to be safe for anal use due to its lack of a flared base and inability to be sterilized.
It is not an intimidating toy, so I think it would be perfect for a couple who is just starting to introduce toys into the bedroom; though it will work for more advanced users as well. It is versatile enough to allow for some creativity with its use, but still simple enough that anyone can use it.
The Climax Jewel is made from phthalate-free plastic. The plastic is transparent making it possible to see the motor and battery inside as you can see in the picture below. It comes in 3 "jewel" colors: glittering amethyst, shimmering pink topaz, and glittering turquoise. I have the turquoise one which despite its name does not have glitter in it, but it is still a very pretty color nonetheless.
The plastic, like most plastics, is very hard with no give to it and no scent or taste. It is smooth and does not have much drag to it, though it does have some ridges that add texture to it. I didn't really notice the ridges much during play, but it may bother those who are sensitive to that sort of thing.
Since it is made of plastic, the Climax Jewel can be used with any type of lube without damaging your toy. Plastic isn't 100% sterilizable, so be sure to cover your toy with a condom when sharing with others.
I really liked the shape of the Climax Jewel. The tip is what really stood out to me. One side is more slanted and the other is more flat and they converge into a rounded tip. This tip will allow it to work for many different people as it can deliver both pinpoint stimulation in a precise area or more broad stimulation across a slightly large area. There is a seam where the tip transitions to the ridged shaft of the toy and may be uncomfortable for some.
It is not a very large toy, but is still large enough to be able to use for insertion. It 5.5" long (though only 4" or so is insertable) and 1.25" in diameter. Here is a picture next to some similarly sized toys such as B-bomb and Faith to get a better idea of its size.
With the toy being so small, it is easy to hide and is travel friendly so long as you take out the battery. This toy could easily get turned on in a bag or suitcase if the battery is left inside the toy. It is really not a discreet toy, as it is pretty obvious what it is at a glance.
For the price of the toy, the Climax Jewel functions well and I would consider it to be very competitive for the price. It has about average strength vibrations that are concentrated in the tip of the toy. The vibrations are quite buzzy and somewhat loud. You may want to play some music while using this toy if you live with roommates.
The controls are very simple. There is a turn dial at the bottom of the toy and you simply turn it clockwise to increase the speed, and counter-clockwise to decrease the speed. The only problem is that every time I turn the dial to decrease the speed it also ends up pulling the lid to the battery compartment off as well. Not a huge deal to me, but it is slightly annoying. I also found that it really sucks the life out of the battery if you do not take it out between uses, so be sure to do that to get the most life out of your battery and your toy.
Climax Jewel is not waterproof, and I did not test using it in the water other than to carefully wash it. It does not appear that it would keep water out well at all.
I love plastic toys because they are so easy to take care of! They don't gather dust or hair like many other materials do and are easily cleaned with soap and water or your favorite toy cleaner. Just be careful when washing your toy not to get any water inside the toy as it is not waterproof. You also may want to pay a little more attention when cleaning around the ridges and seam, just to make sure that everything is well-cleaned.
Plastic is compatible with both water-based and silicone-based lubes and shouldn't have any type of reaction with any lube.
I like to store mine in a small cloth bag with my other plastic toys, but it would do fine in a drawer or ziplock bag as well
The packaging was very simple and minimalistic. It comes in a plastic container with a paper insert inside. There are not separate instructions, but there are a couple of tips on the back of the insert. Really though, not many instructions are needed for a simple toy like this.
It would be fine to use as storage, but since it takes up quite a bit of room, I chose not to do that.
There is also information about a 30-day warranty. I thought that was nice to see, especially in such an inexpensive toy. If your toy has a defect you can send it in to be repaired or replaced unless you live in one of the handful of states where this is not allowed.

Follow-up commentaryI still like it4 months after original review
This isn't the best toy I have, but it still works great especially when you factor in how inexpensive it is. It hasn't malfunctioned on me at all and is still working as well as when I first got it. This would be a good pick for someone who wants to try a vibrator, much doesn't have much money to spend on one.
