This is best used as an internal toy (but not for your butt because it has no base). You can use it externally, but I personally think it's better internally. This toy is great for anybody who is willing to spend this kind of money on a vibrator. However, I assure you it's well worth the money.
Little Chroma is made from anodized aluminum (unlike its precious metal counterparts Little Gold and Little Platinum, which are made with a stainless steel base) making it non porous, body safe, and easily cleaned or sterilized. Aluminum is not as dense as steel, which I would suspect makes it SLIGHTLY lighter in weight than its steel bodied brothers. Steel also holds temperatures longer. Since this is a metal toy and can be used for temperature play, you'll want to chose between light weight or ability to hold temperature. Let's be real here: they are both metal and both can be made hot and cold. You just have to choose which you like better (though for me the choice lies with what look I like best and how much it costs).
In every way I was impressed with Little Chroma. It felt good in my hand as soon as I opened the box. Nice weight. Nice shape. The cap was a tad hard to twist in all the way, but after reading the small manual that comes with it, I found a recommendation to put a TINY but of petroleum jelly on the threading of the cap. It worked like a charm. At 5.25 inches long and .67 inches in diameter, in my hand it seemed slightly bigger than all the photos I've seen. It's just as shiny but has a very slight texture on the metal that I didn't expect. I have the black one. I don't know if the purple or red ones are different. It is VERY quiet and will not be heard behind closed doors or in the bathroom where volumes multiply (that's right it's 100% water proof). It can fit between two bodies during intercourse. However, in my experience, because this toy is by no means soft, I was very aware of its existence. It didn't hurt but I would prefer a softer clit toy during intercourse. The same is not true for all sex positions.
Jimmy Jane says somewhere in the packaging "one speed, but the right speed". It's true. I've learned from several sources before buying this toy that it has only one speed. A deep resonating vibration that is tuned to the "human frequency". This is true also. I expected this vibrator to be a little on the weak side but still feel good, more of a self exploration kind of toy. When I first turned it on, (battery included) I was a little surprised. It's not one of those get you there in 30 second toys, but it's still pretty sweet. It takes only one battery and is the world's only toy with a replaceable motor, which is the size of a battery and is a fraction of the cost of the toy itself. This is why they call it "everlasting".
Because this toy is made of metal, you can remove the inside parts (battery and motor) and throw it in the dishwasher or boil it for an ultimate clean. You can even bleach it with the appropriate bleach to water ratio of course. These three disinfecting methods allow you to share this toy with a partner. For personal use only you can clean it with toy cleaner of course, but since it's water proof, if you happen to be using it in the shower/bathtub, you can clean it right after use with mild soap and water.
Little Chroma comes in a thin box with no vulgar language, descriptions, or images. The cardboard box is sealed at both ends with a circular piece of tape (which is some of the thickest I've seen by the way). Once you have removed the tape, the box easily opens to reveal a small instruction guide and the toy itself tucked inside another piece of cardboard. The packaging is small, streamlined, and easy to open.
My ONE AND ONLY complaint about this vibrator is that I don't feel secure with turning it off when it's in water. What makes a toy like this waterproof is having the end screwed completely on and secured by the o-rings between the cap and the body. I realized when I have it in the shower, that it has to be turned on the whole time. It would have been nice if there was an on and off button or another alternative to unscrewing the cap to be turned off.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it11 months after original review
I still LOVE little chroma! Its not my go to toy, and I don't use it every time; but its SO special to me and I do use it frequently. Its safe to say its in my top 3. I recently hurt my neck and I'm in physical therapy. I like to use this on my neck because of its resonating vibrations. Still so in love with the little chroma.

I must be missing something. Everyone seems to love this item but to me it looks plain. Then again, none (apart from maybe the candles) of Jimmyjanes products do anything for me - visually. Guess that saying is correct - don't judge a book by it's cover!

Great review. I loved how you pointed out the differences between the Chroma and the Steel toys. Thanks so much!

I've read other reviews where they mentioned that this toy is not waterproof unless it is turned on (for the reason you described). So your assessment is correct there!
Thanks for the review. I'd love to try this.

Great review! I love hearing people say good things about this vibrator because I think it gets overlooked far too often. It's one of my absolute favorites.
@Shellz, I own and LOVE this vibrator but also think it looks pretty boring. What's amazing (to me) about it is that it can last pretty much forever; the aluminum shouldn't degrade if you take good care of it, and the motor can be removed and replaced by the company! Besides that it's surprisingly penetrating and powerful, although I do hate that it isn't rechargeable. But yeah, more about the function than the look!
