The Non-descript Training Dildo

The Reach is a really interesting toy, but it failed to stimulate me enough. I do like that I can thrust this toy without fear of pain, but it just didn't do enough for me to finish. I did enjoy using it with a clitoral vibe though. The streamline design makes using it with one hand easy, leaving your other hand free to attend to other areas.

Use

I was intrigued by the shape of the Platinum Silicone-Reach and the fact that Doc Johnson was now making toys in silcione-bravo by the way! It was sort of an impulse buy after a video review that I saw. When it arrived, I realized that I should have checked the dimensions before ordering. It seemed a bit on the small side for me. It sat in the corner of my apartment with other ignored toys, freebies, and repeats. Until one day...I got REALLY bored before planning a sex toy party. What toys should I talk about? Is this one ever worth mentioning? I had no clue since I had never tried it, and I've glad I did. It's an excellent toy for someone like me who isn't too keen on realistic probes. It's even better for women who are beginners to toys or want to share them with a male partner who might get a little envious of a toy that can stay harder longer than they can...

Material / Texture

I was really impressed with Doc Johnson's silicone. It is advertised as being hypo-allergenic, easy to clean, dishwasher safe, 100% phthalate free, and easily warms up to bodily temperatures that it also retains well. It is firm yet still flexible and very durable. It also has a lot more stretch to it than a lot of other silicones that I have tried. This may contribute to the higher less of drag and slight stickiness. It is nothing bothersome, unless you drop it on the floor and pick up everything you should have vacuumed last week. Because it is silicone, it will last a really long time (if not forever), and can be shared with others if sterilized first.

The pink is really pretty too! It shimmers!

Design / Shape / Size

The design is kind of odd, I'll admit it. It looks more like a futuristic Hogwarts wand than a sex toy, although not a good one since it can easily bend entirely in half. Basically, it is a probe with a balled end. The entire length of the toy is 7" long. The intended insertion length seems to be about 5 3/8", but I suppose you could insert the entire toy, vaginally of course. The ball at the top is about the size of a ping pong ball, 1 1/2" long, and a little over 4 1/2" in circumference. The shaft gradually attaches to this orb at the end. The shaft's circumference is the same the whole way down, 3 3/8". There is a less than adequate attempt at a "handle" at the bottom. It's a shame this isn't better because I'd love to give this a go in my ass. Alas, it is one, sort of. The last 1 5/8" of the shaft are 2mm thicker than the rest of the shaft. 2mm isn't nearly enough to make this safe for deep anal insertion. It does provide a bit of a lip to grip onto with your fingers if you are using this on someone as a probe, though. It has a deeply embedded "Doc Johnson" into the handle too. On the very end is excess silicone that makes the toy look a bit cheaper than it should. It can be cut or pulled off.

While the design isn't graphic or even all that phallic, I don't think it would take long to figure out what this actually is. Travel would be fine since it doesn't take up much space, but it does collect a lot of lint. Travel with it in a bag or box.

Performance

Because of the size, I wasn't expecting much from this. Again, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bulb provides a lot of sensation. This is an especially great dildo for those who are new to them. The design is very streamlined and not uncomfortable at all. It only stretches a small amount of the vaginal canal at a time and allows the user to get use to these sensations as slow as they would like. I am not able to thrust dildos fast usually. With this one, again because of the design, I was able to frivolously thrust away without fear or pain. The body flexes with my inner canal, with every thrust, in and out. The bulb is easy to insert and doesn't get caught on my pubic bone coming out either.

However, I got easily bored with this since it was apparent that it wasn't going to come close to finishing me, even though it did feel good. It also provided a bit of g-spot stimulation, but again, was not enough to produce as orgasm. Used with a clitoral stimulator, it increased the level of my orgasm. What I liked was that since there is not much friction, it can be used with one hand and levels the other hand free to attend to other areas.

I REALLY wish this had a better handle because it would be a great anal tool for training to get used to the sensation. Such a shame!

Care and Maintenance

To clean, you can boil this or put it in the dishwasher! If you don't have time for that, you can clean it with hot water and soap or even soak it in such. A toy clean will work as well. The Doc Johnson imprint can get gunk stuck in it if you are going handle deep with it. Using a soft bristled tooth brush will clean the crevices. Make sure to only use water based lubricants. Silicone will ruin this toy! Let it dry and then you cans tore it with other 100% silicone toys, glass, steel, or plastic. If not, place it in a bag or the original package.

Packaging

Most Doc Johnson toys I have had have come in plastic clam shell packages. This one isn't all plastic. The Reach is held in a plastic case that can be used as storage without the outer cardboard box that it slides into. The package is very attractive with bright colors contrasting black and with silver writing. The toy can be seen through the front, and the back has a little information about the toy and the material. The inside has a small pamphlet of other silicone toys now offered by Doc Johnson.
    • Good for storage
    • Not discreet
    • Recyclable
Follow-up commentary
I grew out of this really quickly and have passed it on. It's not something I think I would have gotten rid of so quickly if I didn't have as much experience. It's much better for those who hate realistic shapes or are a beginner.

A note for those who like their packaging to last: Even though I only used this a handful of times, it was hard to get the plastic insert in and out of the cardboard shell without ripping it. It wouldn't have lasted much longer.

This is a cool design, and it's awesome that Doc Johnson is making things in high quality silicone! It seems a little too (or a lot) too bendable for me, though.

I wonder, to make it anal-safe, could you drill a hole an inch and a half up from the bottom, and put one of those carabiner/D-ring things through it? If you went high enough up from the bottom, the silicone shouldn't tear, and the carabiner would make a good base/ring to keep it all from going too far.

Good review. Thus is a pretty decent toy, but I have to say, I rarely use it anymore. It just isn't big or firm enough.

Great review, it's a cute little toy but more suited to anal for me I think. I love Antipova's idea!

@Anti- Good idea but I fear the silicone would rip too easily. It's not very firm. I really think it would rip.

@Zen, yea it'll collect dust for me.

When I first saw this vibe, I thought it was just hard plastic by the look. Love the idea of it being flexible.
