Pearl in the Rough

The Radiant Gems G-Spot Dildo can be a turn off for those who need something to just wipe down and toss in the toybox. The smell and care are a couple of strikes, but overall it's a good design and the material is perfectly soft-firm.

Use

The Radiant Gems G-Spot Dildo is meant for vaginal use to manipulate the g-spot. The curved tip, soft body, and handling issues make it suitable for a woman already familiar with the location of her g-spot, and wishes to use a different material for play.

Due to the shape of the shaft, this would not be recommended for anal play; on the other hand, it would likely be safe for such when used with a harness. It is compatible with a Vac-U-Lock harness for strap-on play. Please remember to utilize condoms when using this toy between partners and/or vaginal and anal play.

Material / Texture

The body is comprised of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with Sil-a-Gel additive to make it antibacterial. It is phthalate, latex, and cadium-free, making it safe for internal use. However, there are issues with some people having sensitivity/allergic reactions, so covering with a condom for each use is suggested. The material is semi-porous and does attract dust ... I also suggest washing with soap and hot water before and after each use as well. The body itself is flexible, but also firm enough for stimulation. It is also smooth (but sticky), and comes in a pearlescent finish.

The smell is another issue entirely. Due to the nature of PVC, the smell has been toned down by the use of a sweet-smelling fragrance, but it's like cherry cough syrup - it tries, but doesn't quite work. It's not over-powering unless you stick it right under your nose. Be warned, the scent does come off on your hands, too. You may want to wash it a few times with soap and water, and let it 'air out' for a day or two to help the smell dissipate.

Design / Shape / Size

This dildo follows the basic outline of a phallic dildo, save for the bent tip at the end. It is 8 inches long with an average girth of 4 inches around (the body tapers towards the base, but does have a wide point just before the taper measuring 4 1/2 inches). The curved tip for g-spot stimulation extends at an outward angle about 1 inch from the body. The tip is 3 1/2 inches around, so there needs to be some warming up before insertion. There is 5 1/2 inches of insertable length.

Performance

It is equipped with a light-duty suction cup, which would work best in the tub/shower (I have no experience in this, but I did get it to stick to the side of the sink while washing it).

Not being familiar with the location of my g-spot, it took some time and lots of repositioning before I was able to figure out where I was. It tended to twist a lot while I was using it (due to using a lubricated condom over the entire shaft including the grip), sometimes causing the slant to point downward instead of upward. Once I was finally able to fix my grip, though, the firmness was just enough to help me find and manipulate my g-spot with satisfactory results. I also found that not using a condom at all made it easier to position it properly - which is not recommended if it is shared or used between vaginal and anal areas.

Care and Maintenance

Hoo boy. This dildo is care intensive, as it is sticky and attracts dust and debris, will overpower other toys with its smell, and requires careful cleaning. Suggested storage is to place and seal it inside its own plastic bag (plastic freezer storage bags will do) if you wish to store it in the same place with other toys and to keep it lint-free. Remember to wash it before and after use (even when using a condom) with hot water and soap. General toy cleaner can also be used. The use of condoms during play will also help prolong its life span.

It is compatible with water and silicone based lubes, but does not require much to get it sliding smoothly. Oil-based lubes are a no-no with PVC.

Packaging

This g-spot dildo comes in an easy-open plastic package with two cards. The backdrop card (in black with a 'glowy' geometric design) advertising the Sil-a-Gel component and Doc Johnson's anniversary stickers; opening it reveals other new toys in the Sil-a-Gel line. The card also smells like the dildo, only stronger. The other card is a 90 day warranty postcard to fill out and send back to Doc Johnson in case of need of replacement; read the warranty carefully if you plan on registering it.

The package *could* be used for storage, as the plastic isn't flimsy; the smell on the inside will never go away.

Personal comments

I suspect it would make a fascinating 3D window cling even when not using the suction cup.

Experience

I found it interesting how hot this item was when I took it out of the package - it had been riding around in the delivery truck for two days in the heat of summer in a sub-tropical climate and was overly warm to the touch. Airing out was a good excuse to let it cool down, too. The material warms up to body-temperature very quickly when in use.
Follow-up commentary
Correction: It is NOT compatible with a Vac-U-Lock harness, but with an O-ring harness.

At any rate, the toy has turned an ORANGE color (like a sunset pink-orange) and the smell has gotten stronger. I suppose since I don't take it out to 'air' once in a while this is natural, but this makes me very nervous if it changes color on its own. Some pitting has appeared as well, although the toy is still structurally sound and solid. If I would use it again there would be no question that condoms will be used on it as well. As is, I think I will retire it as a window cling/air freshener.
