“Misunderappreciated” Bonez Graduated Double
Inexpensive and versatile, the Bonez Graduated Double is not a double-ended dildo, rather it’s a classic or anal dildo with double function that performs very well for the price.
Published:
Pros
Friendly size, versatile shape, discreet, inexpensive.
Cons
Less than ideal material.
Not really a double-ended dildo.
Not really a double-ended dildo.
Yes, I know “misunderappreciated” isn’t a word, but the Doc Johnson Bonez Graduated Double Dong, is misnamed or, at least, miscategorized, and, consequently, is, possibly, rather underappreciated. This toy is in the category with double-ended dildos which are defined as “sex toys designed specifically for the simultaneous penetration of two partners” which the Bonez Graduated Double clearly is not. It’s only 7.5 inches long (19.05 cm) so it’s unlikely to be used by two people. (If it were, I suspect it would fail quite spectacularly.) Far more likely the “Double Dong” refers to the usefulness of the two ends for “double” purposes – both anal and vaginal, and, at this, it does a quite admirable job. Customers looking in the “classic” or “anal dildos” categories might well appreciate this inexpensive, discreet, versatile, and effective toy.
The Bonez Graduated Double is made of black phthalate-free TPR (Thermoplastic rubber) which Edenfantasys gives a material rating of 7. The TPR in the Graduated Double should therefore, be slightly porous and hard, but still flexible. I can bend the Graduated Double maybe about 15 degrees off the vertical. Let me say here, I am a BIG FAN of the safest material possible for my toys, a safety-rating-of-10-silicone-and-glass girl all the way. But, the Bonez Graduated Double was a first toy for me, before I knew any better and before I was willing to spend a lot of money experimenting. That being said, even after having it for a couple of years, I feel comfortable and safe with this toy, but I'd never share it. If you do share, play safe, use a condom.
The Graduated Double does have a very slight odor to it, which is not unpleasant, and which, I guess, means it’s not porous enough to have absorbed other odors. It washes up easily with antibacterial soap and water, and doesn’t pick up lint or feel any tackier than my silicone toys do. It seems to be slightly warmer than the silicone toys and certainly a bit harder. It’s fairly smooth, though it does have barely noticeable seams. The wide end has a somewhat deep crevice that might possibly trap bacteria but a quick brush with a toothbrush easily cleans it. The smaller (anal?) side is more gradually shaped and not likely to trap anything. It’d be fine underwater, although the rubber does cause some friction, so you’d need some water-friendly lube. As far as friction, the Graduated Double doesn’t get too slippery to handle even with a little Astroglide smeared on it.
Even though Bonez Graduated Double is not the best quality material you can buy, it’s still a really good first toy, especially for a solo act. It’s cheap so customers don’t risk much to experiment; it’s versatile for anal or vaginal play, it’s modest but appropriate in size; and it’s not scary looking or embarrassing for first time buyers who are still a little squeamish about buying realistic dongs. It looks rather like some sort of cartoon martial arts exercise thingy, an image enhanced by the black scroll designs on the clamshell packaging. As such, it’s probably good for travel and leaving lying about.
The large end is smoothly rounded with a diameter of 4.75 inches (12.065 cm) and the small end is 3 inches (7.62 cm), a bit fatter than my fat thumb. Both ends are appropriately sized for use around the vaginal and anal openings, which, again, I think is the place many beginners like to start. For first time solo play, since both ends are rounded, it works really well as a fill-you-up-and-leave-it-there kind of toy so that a woman can feel it best when orgasm causes her to contract around it. For beginners, I would think thrusting is probably better done with something that has tapered ends.
For more advanced users, using the larger end for anal, or thrusting to take advantage of the many ridges, keeps this from being strictly a beginner toy. Beyond the safety concerns of the material, you might want to be a little cautious with thrusting, since the dong is pretty firm and straight. I know I feel a little nervous when a noobie partner gets hold of this and wants to use it on me, but that’s what communication is for, right? Incidentally, the toy seems to spark interest in less experienced male partners, who are often curious enough about how it works to choose it over more obvious (and potentially more intimidating?) ones in the toy box.
All in all, the Bonez Graduated Double is a nice beginner toy as is, and has such a versatile, friendly size and shape that you might later find yourself at your computer holding it up in comparison to the “Actual Size” view of a more expensive silicone or glass toy.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
I still like this toy, but, like many favorite old toys, it's fallen by the wayside as I've accumulated more toys made of better materials. It lasted well, though, for nearly two years before showing some nicks and scratches. I still recommend it for beginners who don't want to risk much money getting started.
