Dildo Death Match: Curve vs. Acute

The Tantus Curve and Acute are similarly designed silicone dildos each with an angled shaft for G-/P-spot targeting. Both have a base which make them safe for anal play as well as harness compatible. While their modest size my not appeal to individuals looking for more girth, they each offer features that should appeal to everyone. So which is better? I decided to compare them "head-to-head". Let's get ready to rumble!

Use

The Curve and Acute are similarly shaped dildos from Tantus. Each is made of body safe silicone, each has an angled shaft designed to target either the G-spot or P-spot and each work well when used manually or with a compatible harness. Whether used vaginally or anally, either dildo can be used for solo or partner play. And since they are modest in size, they would be suitable for beginners to anal play, but offer enough to satisfy more advanced users.

Material / Texture

Both the Curve and the Acute are made of 100% medical grade silicone meaning they are phthalate free, hypo-allergenic, and non-porous. Either is a great choice for anyone with sensitivity to latex. There is no taste or odor associated with either dildo.

The Curve is available from EF in midnight purple, purple, and black. I chose the purple which is similar to the color of lavender with subtle swirls of a darker purple visible. There is also a blue tinted iridescence which gives the dildo a lovely sheen. The color is truly beautiful. The surface of the dildo has a velvety texture which creates an enjoyable amount of drag and seems to hold lube better. The silicone is firm and compressible, but is still flexible.

The Acute is available in midnight purple, a gorgeous rich purple intermingled with swirls of black. The dildo has a smooth, glossy surface which can lead to beading of the lube. The silicone appears to be similar to that of the Curve. However, the Acute is slightly floppier due to the narrower shaft of the dildo. The Acute is also available in pearl white and the same purple as the Curve, although these colors are not currently offered at EF.

Design / Shape / Size

The Curve and the Acute have a similar basic design and shape. Neither is realistic looking, but there is no doubt that they are phallic. Both have a head, an angled shaft, and a base that makes them compatible for use with a harness. However, there are some distinct differences between the two.

The Curve is larger than the Acute in all measurements (see side by side comparison below). The Curve has a 1-1/2" diameter head that resembles a glans with a ridge the goes around the entire circumference of the dildo. The Acute also has a 1-1/2" diameter head, but in contrast it is more bulbous and flares out only on the underside of the dildo. The Curve has five small evenly spaced ridges along the underside surface of the shaft, whereas the Acute only has four. Both dildos have an oval shaped base, but the Curve base is much more substantial with a 1/2" thickness. The shaft of the Curve extends from the base in one direction before curving back in the other. This results in an almost hook shape. In contrast, the Acute extends directly from the base at a sharper angle (see picture below). Both angles are effective in targeting the G-/P-spot.

Curve (Acute)
Total Length: 6-1/2" (6")
Insertable Length: 5-3/4" (5")
Head Circumference: 4-3/4" (4-1/2")
Shaft Circumference: 4-1/2" (4")
Shaft Diameter: 1-3/8" (1-1/4")
Base Dimensions: 3"x3-1/2" (2"x2-1/2")
Weight: 0.5 lbs. (0.4 lbs.)

Performance

The Curve, as its name implies, has a curved shaft designed to target the G-/P-spot. The dildo slides in easily when used either vaginally or anally and the subtle ridges on the underside of the shaft provide stimulation when the dildo is thrust. When used vaginally, the Curve performs well but the modest size may not satisfy individuals looking for more girth. The substantial base makes holding the dildo easier and reduces hand fatigue with manual thrusting for most, although my wife finds it too big for her smaller hand to hold comfortably. The large base also provides more stability for the dildo when used in a harness which is my preferred use for the Curve.

The Acute is almost a junior version of the Curve but it also has its own unique features. True, the Acute is smaller in every way and also has subtle ridges on the underside, but it also has a sharper angled shaft. Despite being smaller, my wife actually prefers the Acute because the angle seems to hit her G-spot better. When used anally, the Acute would be a good choice for beginners to anal play or as warm up for larger toys. However, the Acute has a much smaller and flimsier base which may make gripping the toy manually more of a challenge. The smaller base also provides less stability when the dildo is used with a harness.

Care and Maintenance

Since both the Curve and the Acute are made of 100% silicone, clean up is as simple as washing with an antibacterial soap and water and allowing to air dry. They can be sterilized by boiling in water, washed in the top rack of a dishwasher without detergent, or with a diluted bleach solution. I prefer to store my dildos individually in Ziploc bags to prevent dust from collecting on them and to prevent contact with other toys since silicone has the potential to react with other materials. It is generally recommended to only use water-based lubricants with silicone toys.

Packaging

Typical of Tantus toys, both the Curve and the Acute come in clear plastic boxes with an internal plastic clamshell casing to position the dildo within the center of the outer box. It is an attractive contemporary style and would be appropriate for storage or use as a gift box if desired. Otherwise, the packaging may be recycled. There are basic care and use instructions listed on the outer box.

Personal comments

Since the Curve and the Acute are so similar in design and features, how does one decide which one to get? It really is going to depend on preferred use, personal body type/size, and your experience level. I give the slight edge to the Curve based on its overall larger size and base, but in general, you can't go wrong with either of these quality dildos by Tantus. I am happy with both and continue to use both for different occasions.

So, who is the winner of the Dildo Death Match? Me of course, for having tested out two great dildos!
Follow-up commentary
The Tantus Curve is still one of my favorite dildos. I love the shape, size, and texture of the silicone. It is a great toy for me anally and my wife vaginally. I love my Curve and am so glad it was my first dildo.
